The great Shay Given was non committal when Joe Kinnear first came to the club as interim manager.
Shay Given – now fully supports manager Joe Kinnear
And when he was asked if it was a good thing Kinnear joining the club, he at first said he didn’t know, and then talked about how important it was to get a new permanent manager into the club.
But of course before that happens owner Mike Ashley will need to sell the club, and there’s no doubt that has become much more difficult with the global credit crunch crisis now sweeping most countries.
But Given now seems to be a lot more supportive of fellow Irishman Joe, once he’s worked with Joe for a couple of weeks, and now says that Joe Kinnear can count on his support.
Given has expressed both sympathy and support for Joe Kinnear, who of course launched an X-rated rant at some of the media 11 days ago, for their less than honest stories about him.
Shay said today:
“He was disappointed and angry with some of the stuff that was written about him,”
“He needed to get a few things off his chest – and he certainly did that – but we’ve got to give him credit for coming up to the club when it’s in turmoil.”
It’s a difficult task for Joe, but he knew that before he came up to Tyneside, and he now seems to be relishing every day on the job, and that’s always good to see, and certainly his enthusiasm will rub off on our players.
We already saw the positive effect on them in the Everton game, when they were able to come back from two goals down to get a creditable draw and break the 5 game losing streak.
We are looking forward to even better performances from the lads, starting with Manchester City next Monday evening – in front of what we hope will be a full house to welcome Joe to Newcastle.
