Joe Kinnear So Committed To The Newcastle Cause

October 14th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 50 Comments

Joe Kinnear has insisted today that he is carrying out his interim job at Newcastle as though he had a long term contract, even though he’s only at the club until new owners come in.

Joe Kinnear - Chris Hughton has been great

There is uncertainty surrounding the club right now, although some good indications this morning from Keith Harris that the club’s sale could be completed by December, with seven official bidders, of which three are large consortiums with big bucks available.

But there are quite a few games until that time and Joe has a massive opportunity to right the ship before then and it’s a great chance for Joe.

He told the Evening Chronicle today:

“I will do this job in the same way I would had it been a three-year contract.” “I would do things the same no matter how long the contract was.”

“We’re working to improve things on the pitch.” “Football is my life.” “And although I maybe should be a bit sharper sometimes, I call things as I see it.”

“It’s been very enjoyable to be here.”

Kinnear’s first game in charge at Everton last week ended with Newcastle unlucky not to take all 3 points and Joe has that knack of inspiring the players.  He is also very good t reading the game and knowing what’s going wrong, or right.

He often proved that at Wimbledon, where he had hardly any money but still put out a very competitive side week after week.

Joe makes his debut this coming Monday and we hope for a full house to welcome Joe to the job, where he’s working his socks off for the club in these dire times.

Joe added:

“It’s the players that deserve all of the credit if we get them.” “I am just guiding them and passing on my experience.” “Chris Hughton has been great.” “And all in all, working with the squad has been great.”

“Of course, I would have liked to be working with Oba Martins and people like Smithy because they are class players.” “And I would love to work with Viduka.”   “But that is taken away from me through injury and it is about getting the other key players fit again.”

“People like Jonas Gutierrez and Habib Beye are getting fitter by the day and I hope they are playing against Manchester City.”  “That is all I will look for the positives.” “The for sale signs at the club don’t bother me.”

The Manchester City game is being broadcast in many countries around the world, and it’s a good opportunity to welcome Joe to Newcastle, and if we can get that win, then anything can happen from now on, until the sale is complete.

Joe’s aim is to get as many points on the board as possible in his short stay - and that’s exactly what the fans want to see too.

Comments welcome.

And with a refreshing degree of honesty too.

Best of luck Joe and let’s get a result at Eastlands as well just to top it up for you.

Lesh - the game is at St James not Eastlands.

  • 4 graeme // Oct 14, 2008 at 17:02

Joe has nothing to lose and everything to win by taking the club on in its present state. If he does a good job, there is a fighting chance he will be offered a full time role somewhere on the back of it.

I wish him well and hope he gets his target, if not betters it. He’s certainly woken the players up, put a bit of fire in their bellies, got them back playing for each other which has to be a good thing.

    Good luck to him.

Really warmed to Mr K,seems an approachable type of fella and a won’t have any prima donna nonsense.

I expect a result against city, home advantage and Mr K belting out orders from the touchline,
