Joe Kinnear will take his place in the St. James’ Park dugout for the first time on Monday night, and it seems that he just can’t wait.

The highly-rated right-back only ever scored 3 goals in his whole career, two for Tottenham and one for Brighton and Hove Albion.
Joe won four major honors during his time at the London club: the FA Cup in 1967; the UEFA Cup in 1972 and the Football League Cup on two occasions (in 1971 and 1973). In 1975, he moved to Brighton, where he made 16 appearances before retiring at the relatively young age of 30.
One of Kinnear’s fondest memories came on a summer’s evening on Tyneside back in August, 1972, when he actually scored one of his 3 career goals against Newcastle.
He was in a Spurs side that included Pat Jennings, Martin Chivers and Martin Peters, and it was the Irish International Kinnear who scored the winner with the only goal of the game.
Recalls Kinnear:
“I only ever scored three goals, and one of them was up here at St.James’ Park, can you believe it? “I remember it was 0-0 at half-time and I got the only goal after the break.”“I didn’t score many so I remember all of the goals I did.”
Kinnear’s goal came against a Newcastle side managed by Joe Harvey, and featuring Willie McFaul, David Craig, Frank Clark John Tudor, Terry Hibbitt, Malcolm Macdonald and Tony Green.
Joe added:
“I always enjoyed playing at St.James’ because it was always a good game and a terrific atmosphere.”
“Hopefully that goal is a positive omen and I’ll go on to enjoy further success at St.James’.”“It’s a fantastic stadium and I honestly can’t wait for Monday night against Man City.”
Joe played for Tottenham 196 times with 2 goals and he played just 16 times for Brighton with a single goal.
Joe Kinnear is obviously ready for Monday night and Manchester City, and that enthusiasm will very likely rub off on the players. But if we can play well for the whole game, and that means starting off well and playing both halves, then we will be in with a good chance of taking all 3 points, which have to be the aim.

It would also help if the defence dont give them a 2 goal start this time. Taylor needs to be wide awake for the full 90 minutes along with the rest of the defence.
Am looking forward to the match for a change.

I reckon Keegan suing the club, is a counter action, against action they plan against him. The timing is unfortunate though.

Keegan suing the toon may be complete crap from the press . Has any one read any comments from keegan ? If he is seriously in line to come back under new owners then i doubt that he would take the club to court . As for the city game i reckon 2-0 Owen to get both goals.

ehhh am I missing something? Super Mac played Center Forward, pretty adept at finding the back of the net also, so no he doesn’t get in at CB

Kinnear only ever scored about two or three goals in his whole career! It’s a bit like being the only team to be beaten by Derby County in a whole season.

And…. it looks a though the FA have warned Joe that any more foul-mouthed rants and he’ll be in trouble.
Great stuff, a relief and I’m sure he’ll get a very, very warm welcome when he appears in the SJP dugout on Monday.
Wonder if it’s worth taking a Marks & Spencers bag to bring the goals home?
