Newcastle United again are a club in turmoil as owner Mike Ashley seeks to offload the club, after his falling out with Kevin Keegan and the fans.
Joe Kinnear has the unenviable task of trying to stabilize the playing side of the club and so far has don e a good job. But there is still uncertainty over the club’s future owners and the time-line of that.
Ruud Gullit managed the club from 1998-1999, and knows all about Newcastle’s passionate supporters, who have seen their side collect just five points from their opening seven league games.
The Dutchman was in LA and talked about the Newcastle situation:
“I think it is terrible for the club. I hope they will find a solution as soon as possible and that they can compete in the future.”
“There is expectation from the fans but they just want to have a little bit of success, they are very proud of the club.”
“There is a lot of pressure from both outdoors and indoors. It starts at the top and if they are okay then they have a chance.”
Those are actually good words from Ruud, who never had trouble with the fans at Newcastle, only with a certain Alan Shearer, and of course he famously lost that battle, as we all know so well.
However, Ruud’s departure led to the fantastic 5 year reign of the great Bobby Robson – oh the memories.
