Xisco Looks To Take His Chance At Newcastle

October 15th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 56 Comments

Newcastle United striker Xisco has vowed to grab his chance under Joe Kinnear.

Xisco - keen to take his chance on Tyneside

Xisco was one of the signings of former Newcastle VP Tony Jimenez – and his signing was surrounded with controversy, which had nothing at all to do with the youngster, who handled the situation with great maturity.

The Majorca-born player scored in his Newcastle debut against Hull City but hasn’t scored since, but he still looks a good player in the making, but will need some time to adapt to the Premier League.

Xisco scored for the Spanish Under-21 side last night, in their amazing come from behind extra time win against Switzerland, and won the two legged tie by a 4-3 aggregate, after being 3-1 down in the first half.

Xisco said today:

“I will get better and I will take my chance when it comes,” “Things always get better after more training and more games. And I hope that is the case at Newcastle.”

“You always need to become more familiar with people when you arrive at a new club.”

The lad is still only 22, but there is plenty of room for improvement for the striker, as he gets some solid guidance from Kinnear and Hughton on the training field.

And he’s well made for the Premier league, standing 6ft 3in frame and that should stand him in good stead as he has already proven his game is physical and well suited to English football.

Xisco continued:

“Football is different in Spain, but I think I can adapt fast.” “I wanted to come and play in the Premier League because it is a big league.”

“Along with La Liga, it is the strongest league in the world.”“Most players who have the opportunity to come here do so.” “And I just want to take my chance.”

Xisco will be in the squad for the Manchester City game next Monday with Owen and Ameobi, but winger Damien Duff may also play up front on Monday night, and the Irishman is in sparkling form right now.

Xuisco was asked of the possibility of playing up front with former Real Madrid star Owen, and he added:

“I think we can play together.”“Of course we are different players on the pitch, but I think the combination is good. It is one that can work.”

Xisco seems a well balanced and smashing young lad, and there’s no doubt he will get a lot better with some good coaching, which he will get on Tyneside.

He could very well turn out to be a good signing for the club, even though he was signed under controversial conditions, which were not of his making.

Comments welcome.

  • 5 chuck // Oct 15, 2008 at 17:45

Cant be that bad if he plays for the Spanish U21
team (how does he do that if he is 22)
Kidding ! at least we finally got some height up front to compliment our two little guys.
I believe Jimenez was a decent judge of talent, too bad the wrong guy left.

  • 8 AndrewNUFC // Oct 15, 2008 at 18:55

Scoring in his first game must have done him the world of good confidence wise. Give the lad time, must be hard for him to settle with having been with Keegan,Hughton,Kinnear and be knowing there will be a new manager after him.

He can play with the spanish u 21 because he started the qualification with them when he was the right age… Exactly like Taylor and Milner for example in the england squad…

The noise is deafening here in scotland in response to the Bellarussian equaliser! Xisco will take time to adjust to the prem, and playing alongside Owen, who is probably quite difficult to play alongside. The good thing is he has a few other Spanish speaking buddues to help him along.

Too right KKforever…Go somewhere else i guess?..Aye the chatroom bit sucks big ones!..

  • 36 reillers // Oct 15, 2008 at 22:57

For those who haven’t heard yet the Irish games over 1-0. We won thank God. Barely out of the stadium, staying in Dubling tonight, lol, couldn’t face hours in the car again. But as for our two wee lads, Duffer and Given. What games they had.
Duff like, what a game he had, he set up Keane’s goal, he was phonomenal, back to his best on a good few occasions tonight. Brilliant, brilliant stuff.
And wee Shay, top class again, “heroics from Given yet again.”
He was very very good as well, one stop he made was at point blank ranged. Got booked for time wasting at the end up fantastic game from him. Very commanding, very vocal, a great, great game from him, a good part of the reason why our defence was outstanding.

Brilliant stuff from those two lads.

  • 37 Punk Skunk // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:00

    Ho’way ireland!..
Well done Duff & Given, bring it back to the Toon Lads!..

  • 38 ryan peacock // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:04

a bit random, but wouldnt you love our starting 11 to look like this come end of january?:

    given
    beye
    lucio
    coloccini
    zhirkov
    jonas
    guthrie
    lucho
    mcgeady
    owen
    martins

  • 39 BIGPEAOVTHEWEAB // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:07

duff was outstanding tonight why cant he play like that for the toon ?

  • 40 reillers // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:11

Aye, he was very good, remember he’s only coming back from a long injury though, give him a wee bit of time.

  • 41 BIGPEAOVTHEWEAB // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:22

i ur right there mate COME ON THE TOON !!!! bring on man city

  • 42 reillers // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:26

LOL!! Given had a wee quick interview on the news there, after Robbie on the way out of the stadium, he looked knackerd. Big red puffy eyes on him, or maybe it’s me being paranoid. Someone will sleep well tonight.
And when describing his point blank save, as modest as ever, he said..”I stood up big and the ball bounced of me chest.” Or something like that. LOL!!
    As modest as usual.

  • 43 micknufc // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:27

personally i think duff’s done canny lately, down at west ham in which we played in spell’s granted.
duff seemed our only threat,i think he has been disapointing, over the time he’s been here but give the lad a break a couple of bad injurys and the lad is plainly a confidence player…im positve he will come good…….i hope lol

  • 44 reillers // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:28

He’s such a modest dote like. A complete gent.

  • 45 reillers // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:33

Micknufc..I’m telling ya, give him a chance and he’ll be a totally different player. There’s an ad on here for Irish football and Charlton’s narrating it and it just shows clips of great moments in Irish football, 1990, when Packie guessed right, when O Leary stood up, when everyone called in sick. Then it goes up to 2002, “when Duff bowed to the crowd” it’s a famous, well, a well known celebration he did he bowed after scoring and Robbie jumped up on his back. Great, great memories.
Duff was outstanding back then and hopefully now those great games will be more then happy memories.
He’d magic in his feet. It’s not gone, he was the wing wizard and can be again. He just needs time.

  • 46 ronaldeano // Oct 15, 2008 at 23:42

Duff’s tallents havent been seen yet whilst he has been a NUFC player.

If he shows the same excelent form he showed at Chelsea, he will be ‘one’ of the best wingers weve ever had.

Duff was a diferent class at Chelsea. I hope we build a team that helps get the best out of Duff.

It hasent been plain sailing with the lad since he signed, he’s been injured and played out of position. Like Zog, he is an attacking midfielder, NOT a left back!

If i see either of them there again, i will ?????

    Boil my heed.

  • 47 micknufc // Oct 16, 2008 at 0:04

    cheers reillers mate.
i have full hope on the duffster,to start knocking out those displays in a black n white shirt…
    p.s.
your not irish by any chance..lol

  • 48 reillers // Oct 16, 2008 at 1:06

A wee Sherlock Homes we’ve got here. I am mate, how did ya guess?? LOL!!

  • 49 Gooderz // Oct 16, 2008 at 8:58

So it looks like we’ve got through the international break without sustaining any further injuries to our players.

But it gets better, Petrov and Robinho are both doubtful for Monday.

  • 50 ronaldeano // Oct 16, 2008 at 8:59

    @Gooders

    Whats wrong with Robinho?

  • 51 51times // Oct 16, 2008 at 9:02

I took a crowbar to his knees that’s what happened.

  • 55 irish_al // Oct 16, 2008 at 10:37

rather unrelated but liverpool will probably have Torres and Babel out for a couple of weeks with knocks picked up last night

thought i’d mention it as a couple of my mates are Liverpool fans and laughing at our chances against Manchester city

they may now find this weekends game against Wigan a bit harder now

  • 56 sweendog // Oct 16, 2008 at 11:50

heard Owen is injured and maybe out for a few weeks .. so Xisco may get a run out .. bit of a nightmare seeing as we need to get a few wins and Owen is our best striker… Xisco kid this is your chance..
