Scan Later Today On Michael Owen Injury

October 16th, 2008 · 12 Comments

Michael Owen is now a big doubt for Newcastle United’s game with Manchester City on Monday night at St. James’ Park.

Michael Owen - results of scan later today

Our in-form captain tweaked his groin in training yesterday, and the results of a scan should hopefully be available later today.

If the scan shows a tear then Michael could be out up to four weeks apparently.

Joe Kinnear told ChronicleLive today:

“He tweaked his groin in training so he is a big doubt.” “It’s 50-50 whether he plays for the Man City match.” “He is having a scan today.” “Then we will find out more, we are just assessing the situation.” “I am hoping it is not as bad as it looked when he first done it.”

“I am hoping it may have calmed down but we are worried that if the scan shows a tear then he could be out for a month.” “Hopefully it won’t be but we are in the dark until later on today.”

This is hardly good news and we should hear more about Michael’s injury today. Owen has played well this season and scored 5 goals already.  The good news is that Oba Martins is coming back from injury, so he can go straight into the team if Michael is out.

But Newcastle also need to start picking up points so that our season is not over by the time the new owners come in later this year - hopefully be late November.

But this is exactly what we feared may happen with such a small squad, and it’s not like the Newcastle Board were not warned over the summer that our squad was just too small.

Comments welcome.

don’t mind he is injured because we can play xisco up and duff supporting him. martin can easily replace him….we got lots of midfielder that can play as striker, maybe jonas or zoggy to be the supporting striker

Allways ready to play for England, seldom ready to play for the team that pays him the big bucks.
Just get rid of him, he`s a sick note with a lot of mileage.
Get him off the payroll whatever the cost.
It`s obvious he came here because no one else would meet his pay demands , also a player who has shown the minimum amount of loyalty to the club.
There are good young strikers out there who would be value for money, who would be only too happy to replace him.

Sell in the window he is to weak for what we need and cut our losses.
