Steven Taylor has talked about the home game against Manchester City on Monday evening.
Steven Taylor - has to cut out the mistakes at the back
Taylor told the Evening Chronicle today:
“There is a bit of a siege mentality going on.”
“But we are all looking ahead to Man City and the chances to take all of the confidence we’ve built up into that game.”
“We are long overdue a home win in this one.”
Taylor is banking on another solid display that was evident in Newcastle’s spirited comeback at Goodison Park two weeks ago, in the second half, after conceding two poor goals in the first 35 minutes of that game.
Steven said:
“We showed the fighting spirit at Everton and now we want to see more of it.” “We pulled it round when it looked all over.”“If we can take the good things from our second-half performance at Goodison, keeping the ball and working hard, we have a good chance.”
“The spirit in the dressing room is much better.” “The lads had been feeling a bit sorry for themselves. But it has been fantastic since Joe Kinnear came in – he has lifted us all.”
“To be honest, we were actually disappointed after Everton that we didn’t win the game.” “That shows how much progress has been made.”
“We needed to stop the rot.” “Hopefully we can carry this into the Man City game.” “It certainly gives the lads confidence.”
What we need from Steven Taylor on Monday night is another solid performance that he put in at Everton and was our Man Of The Match. Steven needs to cut out the mistakes and form a solid understanding with Argentine Fabricio Coloccini. That assumes that Joe will have Steven and Fabricio playing in central defense on Monday of course.
We’ve conceded far too many soft goals this season through the middle of our defense, and if Steven and Fabricio can tighten that up, we will have a very good chance to get all 3 points on Monday night, even with captain Michael Owen missing.
But it all has to start at the back and with Guthrie, Duff and N’Zogbia continuing to show some good form in front of them, we have to be in with a fighting chance of victory.
Comments welcome.

we all know he’s had a bad start to the season, most of our players have, but it doesn’t help him when people get on his back as soon as the ball goes near him. I’m always one to state that players need to earn thier wages but its fair to say no one plays wiv as much passion as steven taylor. The st james park ‘tutters’ (the people who dont have a positive word to say about anything, we’ve all sat next to one) dont help anyone.

Until we get a settled back 4 we’ll continue to leak stupid goals. Hopfully with Beye coming back at rb, Bassong at lb (or Enrique) we can settle it down a bit.
Shame to see the smoggies getting a pasting off Chelsea mind - ah well, every cloud n all that!

Nile Ranger has scored a hatrick and the reserves are winning 3-0. On the Aaron Spear subject this is from nufc.com:
“PS: Aaron Spear is listed in an U18 squad for the first time since the highly-rated teenager joined Newcastle from Plymouth Argyle in the close season.”

Put Taylor on the bench. He sucks!!!
7 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 18, 2008 at 14:53
mackem in milan- this nile ranger seems to have made a massive impact since joining the ranks. he’s scoring on a regular occasion and from what i’ve heard on here and from other fans, he looks really dangerous whenever he’s involved.
On another note, the smoggies were absolutly smashed by chelsea today. finished 5 but it could have easily been 7 or 8, they were passing it through them like a training session.

Taylor needs to stop talking to the press and get to work on cutting the mistakes from his game.
He shouldn’t even be in the team quite frankly, If Beye and Enrique are fit, then Bassong should be playing alongside Colo and Taylor should be warming the bench.

what is the problem with taylor talking to the press??
he is the only one who was positive in last few weeks…
all others were we are not confiden, its not good here
its always good to hear someone talking positively
14 Callum // Oct 18, 2008 at 17:44
Is it me or do our players talk to the media ALOT?! They should rly do there talkin gon the pitch as words mean nothing.
15 Nick // Oct 18, 2008 at 17:49
Krul / Given
Beye Colo Bassong
Guti Guthrie N’Zog Enrique
Lua Martins Ranger
3-4-3 Brazilian style with Spidey and Enrique as wing backs. Give the kids a go.
16 Jon // Oct 18, 2008 at 17:50
Bassong and Colo in defence. Taylor on bench.
17 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:02
i agree neeraj what is the problem with players talking to the press i like to hear what the players are thinking and though i will admit taylor isnt the best off defenders i think someday he will be he has the right attitude to learn and also seems intelligent enough to do so and when colo gets used to the prem taylor will have sommeone to learn from i mean afterall boumsong and bramble if any thing has held him back a few years
18 Tom_Toon // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:05
Taylor needs to be dropped, his positioning is so woeful it drags Colo out of position for one.
Coloccini-Bassong
19 Ganiyu // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:16
Nicky butt must sit on the bench
20 Toon Daft // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:18
yeah, gotta be honest, Butt has been woeful this season - too capable of giving away dangerous free-kicks or even pens

nile has to start against city imo
24 Heavy hitters // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:27
Beye - Colo - Bassong - Enrique. If we must play big mouth play him right side of midfield and let him run up front as much as he does already but we will have to have someone dropping in behind him in front of Beye because he will leave the left flank totally exposed. Seems to me he is a liability wherever he is played. As long as he shouts his mouth off to the media whilst making costly errors, people like me, a season ticket holder, will shout our mouths off about him on forums.
25 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:33
heavy hitters did you just send me an e-mail
26 neeraj // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:38
The Geordies, who included goalkeeper Steve Harper, enjoyed much the better of the early exchanges and Sammy Ameobi came close to breaking the deadlock when his far post strike was parried by Neil Postlethwaite only for Ranger to smash the rebound into defender Nick Meace.
there is a name in that list that scares me
guess
27 Ganiyu // Oct 18, 2008 at 18:59
I hope butt would leave this club come january
28 It Could be Worse...(DC) // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:01
Nile Ranger is a G
29 Ganiyu // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:13
I hope the ranger becomes our own world class product
30 Lokes // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:28
That Mccrudden is also a good player.
MARK MY WORDS.
HE HAS SPEED.
31 Lokes // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:31
Why we are playing against Barnsley?
Is it U-18 of barnsley?
32 Dan13 // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:32
most of the reserve players are pricks with big ego’s
Kazenga or Danquah in particular
33 Lokes // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:36
Dan13
Why said so?
34 Dillon // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:50
Nick i like your team man, wish Joe would try something a little different, and i would love to see Kurl in goal.
35 Ally // Oct 18, 2008 at 19:53
i disagree with using Jonas as a wing back, he is our most creative player therefore we need to get him on the ball in the final third as much as possible, without the added responsibility of having to go the other way
36 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 20:09
i agree ally but he goes back anyway
37 Ally // Oct 18, 2008 at 20:14
aye ur right beyethegreat thats his game, his workrate id phenomenal.
but especially at home i would just say to the lad to go out and win us the game, because he is capable of it from the glimpses we have seen.
38 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 20:29
ally agreed again he is phenominal he has got everything well except a decent goalsoring record but unlike some players ie rooney his game realy suits being a team player with him on the pitch its like having an extra man coz he is every where on the left on the right attack or defense he is emense
39 Tom_Toon // Oct 18, 2008 at 20:41

if we are gonna get him we need to put a bid in asap
42 Dan13 // Oct 18, 2008 at 21:54
Just they are, I’ve been to a few reserve matches like at blue flames and you just stand next to some who aren’t fit.
Just the way they prat around and think they’re bigger than everyone else there
43 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 22:12
i dont know much about them dan but when you look at nile rangers myspace where it says all about the money you can tell that as soon as man u or some one comein hes gone
44 beyethegreat // Oct 18, 2008 at 22:22
thats if he can be that good

Did you know today is Habib Beyes B-day 2day!
it says on the nufc calender and his official site beyewatch!
I hope today will give him a big boost for tomorrow
50 graeme // Oct 19, 2008 at 11:22
I would actualy leave Taylor on the bench for this game. Its time for cool heads and decisive action - two things he still lacks I’m afraid.
51 Sav // Oct 19, 2008 at 12:30
For a minute there I thought Taylor scored one and made one at Everton last match but thanks to some of our fickle posters on here I now realise I must have dreamt that?
Wait until we have Beye back regularly and a settled back 4 (Beye,Taylor, Colo and Bassong) before judging individual members.
52 Richard // Oct 19, 2008 at 17:08
Not quite sure why people think that Taylor shouldn’t speak to the press….?? It is hardly as if giving a 10 min interview about our season is distracting him from playing…
