Butt’s Six Newcastle Managers But Still Wants To Stay

October 19th, 2008 · 87 Comments

The players at Newcastle over the last 18 months or so have seen four different managers in charge.

Nicky Butt - played under 6 managers at Newcastle since 2004

Those managers have been Glenn Roeder, Sam Allardyce, Kevin Keegan and now Joe Kinnear, and that’s hardly a thing that brings any stability to any club or is popular with players, who have to continually change their way of playing.

And when Butt signed for the great Bobby Robson in the summer of 2004, he also served under Bobby Robson himself, and then Graeme Souness - so he’s served under 6 managers at Newcastle in just four years at the club.

And of course Nicky was also out on loan for one season at Birmingham, under Geordie manager Steve Bruce.

As far as Nicky Butt is concerned, he still wants to finish out his career at the Tyneside club – and he talked today about wanting to stay in the North East:

Nicky said today:

“I would like to stay here and finish my career here,” “If it is not to be, it is not to be, but the club have a one-year option to extend my contract.” “It’s not a big deal at the moment. I will just keep working hard and see what that brings.”

“I’m the same as everyone else who is in that boat. We just have to put the contract situation to one side while the club gets some stability and a buyer comes in.” “But it’s definitely not going to be a long-term thing with me at my age, because I am 34 in two months time.”

Butt is still a strong believer in the club becoming great again, and tasting at least some success. Nicky continued:

“It might not happen in a year, but I think it will definitely get there,”   “It just needs a few tweaks here and few tweaks there.”

“I have seen what it could be like here if things were successful — it would go through the roof.”

“But, for now, it’s up to us to keep the club in the Premiership and at a good level for the new owners coming in.”

Nicky has been a good servant to the club over the last couple of seasons, and has played very well, and we would expect him to be here for another season, before he finally hangs up his boots.

What do you think?

Comments welcome.

Would like to keep him as a coach, after he retires as he can pass on much valuble experience to the other young players, whether the in the first team or youth team.

  • 2 beyethegreat // Oct 19, 2008 at 16:12

he is still a good player he just has not shown it yet similar to how duff is a good player but hasnt realy shown it

  • 3 neeraj // Oct 19, 2008 at 16:23

    stoke scores

    bale off

  • 4 Ally // Oct 19, 2008 at 16:26

he is the type of player who needs younger and quicker player buzzing around him so he can win it and give it to them

playing with the likes of Geremi he can get a bit stuck, but with the likes of Jonas and Charlie there he cud still do a job

    1-1

  • 6 Toon Graeme // Oct 19, 2008 at 17:01

As it stands we need this score to stay third bottom. SC look at bit desheviled and you would not think they had 11 men.

    1-1 please

  • 7 Turkish magpie // Oct 19, 2008 at 17:07

    who scored 4 stoke?

  • 8 neeraj // Oct 19, 2008 at 17:30

now who ever did the scouting of modric from nufc end

    THANK YOU

  • 9 Soren // Oct 19, 2008 at 17:30

    Stoke leading 2-1
    1-0 D. Higginbottom (pen) 19′
    1-1 D. Bent 25′
    2-1 R. Delap 53′

So great if spurs could lose and stay miserable hehe.

i almost feel sorry for spurs but then i remembered how little sympathy we got when all the trouble was going on at our club

  • 22 Joey's going to get you!!(GG7) // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:16

hahahahahaha!! even with our whole clubs future up in the air we have more points than that scum, bentley is poo, modric is good but doesnt suit spurs ( been dogs terd so far), pavlychenko is horrendous, wears the next best thing giovani dos santos, i seem to remember telling people he was nonsence

  • 26 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:21

spurs was hilarious today. two red cards, and another loss.
Corluka was a shame though, dont like seeing that happen to any player.
Would love a win against citeh tomorrow night, get us further away from the sorry spuds!
won a decent wee bit on a double today too, had hull to beat wham and stoke to beat spurs, so that came up good :D
Got another double again with stoke n spurs and us to beat citeh. half way there so if we get a result im up a pretty penny!

  • 27 wigaz // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:24

Well i’m glad i’m not a spurs fan like! ha ha! must say if they are still rock bottom by Jan i think we should make a cheeky bid for Woodgate & Bent! their still very good players just dont think ramos knows what he’s doing. What you guys think? think they would do well in our side. If Owen wants away in Jan a strikeforce of Bent & Oba would be decent like? even if Owen stays why not all 3 of them? Still think Woody should of signed back for us anyway & he prob thinks the same now, would have him back in a heartbeat! Jenas can go & eat shit tho! mwahahahaha!!!!!!

  • 28 neeraj // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:32

    Joey’s going to get you!!(GG7)

    modric is over rated

  • 29 beyethegreat // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:36

i think modric is a good player and he will prove that just hopefully not b4 spurs are relegated

  • 30 neeraj // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:36

    wigaz

we have good enough wingers in our side
    so no to bentley
and woodgate i know lot of ppl here think he is gr8
acc to me he was gr8

so we shouldn’t go back who was good 3 yrs ago

still think we need a cover for right back and a strong central mid fielder, who can take charge of our center mid field…. some one like

would like to see how nacho does…..

he would be our answer to our defficiency in midfield position

  • 31 Ganiyu // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:36

Owen should stay and build a strike force with martins. I believe both can take the club to europe.

  • 32 Toon Graeme // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:36

3 point tom and lets pull away from the shower of shlite that is the bottom team.

    Loved the crowd today

“sacked in the morning, youre getting sacked in the morning, sacked in the morrrniing, your getting sacked in the morning!!!!”

  • 33 Joey's going to get you!!(GG7) // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:38

line up for tommorow for me,

    —————-shay——————–
    Beye—Taylor—Colo—Bassong
    —————–Butt——————
    Jonas———Guthrie——-Zogs
    –!———–martins———-!–

  • 34 Toon // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:41

i think they have some good players, but the dont match andcant play well together…

we are only bottom because of other things going on at the club..spurs have no excuses, feel abit sorry for them haha :/

  • 35 neeraj // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:43

    tomorrow’s team acc to me

    given
    beye tayls colo bass

    duff guthrie n’zog guti

    xisco/ranger oba

guti is at his best when he plays in the left wing

plus i think butt can give his best for 2o mins so i would have him in at 70 mins depending on situation

    ranger is a must

  • 36 Tom_Toon // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:44

    hahahaah Spurs!

Spose they didn’t really have much chance with their best player getting sent off on 17 mins!

  • 37 james L // Oct 19, 2008 at 18:55

i dont mind butt, id rather have guthrie and barton in the midle though.
it will be mint if we survive and spurs go down. we can pinch modric, woodgate, lenon, dos santos, my fingers are croosed for that to happen.

my team for the morra is

    given

    beye colocini cacapa taylor enrique

    gutierez guthrie nzog

    martins xisco

subs: toszer, bassong, smith, geremi, donaldson, ranger, barton

we wont win but we might just hold out for a draw.

  • 62 Toon Olly // Oct 19, 2008 at 20:17

From spurs id welcome with open arms:
    Dos santos
    Modric
    Bale and Hutton
maybe cambell as he looks like one for the future(ish) but as far as strikers for the future are concerned we’re not doing too bad with nile and carrol… if carrol’s any good that is? id have the blackburn bentley too, but not that mug that plays down whitehart lane!
ps lets take atleast a point from citeh tomoro!

  • 63 Ganiyu // Oct 19, 2008 at 20:44

  • 64 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:02

tom toon- i heard some ridiculous statistic on talk sport that was something along the lines of “in the last 12 or 13 games bale has started, spurs havent won one of them”
i could be totally wrong, but one of you statistics bufftys could take a look? haha

  • 65 Tom_Toon // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:09

How many games have Spurs won in the last 6 months?!?!? ahahaha, answers your question really! Bale is without doubt there best player, best player, most gifted player, everything.

  • 66 Turkish magpie // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:12

The transfer budget depends on what your season expectations are

if your european contender you get bout 17mil

if your title winner you get 21mil

but this is just for newcastle

  • 67 Turkish magpie // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:14

to get rid of players go on ther player profile and u can release them on a free release on mutual termination or you can sell them

  • 68 skin d // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:14

  • 70 KK FOREVER (Ross) // Oct 19, 2008 at 21:16

T_T- true, i didnt look at it from that point of view, its not like they’re top of the league and him starting is dropping them valuable points, lol.
i havent seen enough of him to comment, but i liked the look of hutton today. really liked him at rangers too. didnt think bent looked bad either but 16 mil is still complete madness, haha

  • 71 AndyNUFC // Oct 19, 2008 at 22:16

I’d have Bale for £5mill tops
    Woodgate £6.5mill tops
No point buying Lennon though if we’ve got Gutierrez.

Those 2 buys would take care of Enrique and Taylor as far as i’ concered and we’d literally have no excuses for a poor defence with Beye Woodgate Colo and Bale.

We NEED a good defensive midfielder to take over from Butt, and a big target striker to take over from Viduka.

My 2 suggestions, Ashton or Pogrebnyak, then I need somebody to help me out with a young, fit and strong defensive midfielder, anyone?

  • 72 Tom_Toon // Oct 19, 2008 at 22:45

I’d buy Topal (DM) and Kalinic (ST)

  • 73 skin d // Oct 19, 2008 at 22:50

would be a mistake to buy ashton, every bit as injury prone as what we already have.

Probably his last season, Butt that is.
Was a decent player but has no pace anymore.
Whatabout Hargraves, apparently Ferguson is tired of his sick notes, though we allready have a couple ourselves.
On that note how about owen for Hargraves straight trade.
Would really like either Veloso or someone similar to run the midfield.
Dont see Carrick getting many games, is he injured ?, would be nice to see him play in black and white, could happen , never thought Owen would be with the club.
