17 year old Nile Ranger has now scored nine goals for the Newcastle club and he scored a hat trick in Newcastle United Under-18s’ 3-1 win over Barnsley yesterday.

The youngster signed from Southampton this summer – but no official word ever came out of the Newcastle club that he had signed. But that just about summed up the level of communication from the Newcastle club during the summer – none.
And remember all the fuss about trying to sign 15 year-old up and coming sensation Aaron Spear?
There was also no official word of him ever signing for the club, probably due to the huge upset on the last day of the season that eventually led to Kevin Keegan leaving the club.

But we must have signed Aaron too because he came on as a 73rd minute substitute on Saturday.
Nile scored two in the first half and then completed his scoring after 70 minutes. Kieron Scargill did get a consolation goal when his shot was deflected past goalkeeper Andreas Arestidou. Andreas had been signed on as an emergency last week following the injury to our 18 year old Swedish goalkeeper Ole Solderburg.
It was good to see manager Joe Kinnear, Chris Hughton and Joey Barton at the Benton grounds to watch the game - that will help the youngsters understand they are important to the future of the club.

Toon, that would surprise me as none of our managers to date seem prepared to play the youngsters. I can’t see Joe taking a chance like that especially as there are quite a few first team regulars now becoming available again. Personnaly I would rather see him and some of the others getting a run rather than Smith or Viduka even if they were available. Sometimes injuries are a blessing.

joey barton, is trying his best, he is always watching the reserves and u18’s. fair play to him, none of the others do, cant wait for joey to come back he is my favourite player

I hope Nile Ranger is on the bench against Man City. I would like to see him brought on for Ameobi after about 60 minutes. He certainly seems to be banging in the goals for the reserves.
I think he could get a sneeky one. Can’t be worse than Ameobi and Xisco. Would they have scored 9 for the reserves by now?

Give the lad a go in the first team, dont let him do an Andy Carroll and get far to settled in the reserves, we want this lad to keep imroving giving him a taste shows him the level he needs to be at to get a regular first team position.
