Newcastle United Still Pursuing Top Youngsters

News today that Newcastle United are continuing to scour the globe for young talent to bring to Tyneside.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos – impressive 16 year-old Greek center back

The latest player to come to the attention of Newcastle is Greek youngster Kryiakos Papadopoulos, who is a central defender. However the youngster is also attracting attention from big guns Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and others.

The 16 year-old center back is considered one of the best defensive prospects in European football at the moment.

Kyriakos Papadopoulos, who will be 17 next February, is currently at Greek club Olympiacos, and is part of the Greek national youth team. Kryiakos was signed from Svoronos Katerinis and was promoted from the Olympiacos youth team in July of 2007 to the Olympiacos first team squad – he’s that good for one so young.

The 16 year-old has so far played in several Olympiacos pre-season friendlies, three league games and three Greek cup games for the first team. He is one of the 10 most talented young players in Europe as considered by UEFA – we’ll keep tabs on this promising 6’0” tall youngster.

And we found out yesterday that Newcastle did indeed sign 15 year old whiz kid Aaron Spear from Plymouth at the end of the summer transfer window, because the lad turned out as a 73rd minute substitute in the Newcastle Under-18 side’s 3-1 win over Barnsley yesterday at Benton. Manager Joe Kinnear and coach Chris Hughton were both there to watch our impressive youngsters in action.

Let’s hope we keep going after these young lads like Spear and Nile Ranger, when the new owners arrive. Nile scored three in that game and is looking to be an exciting prospect for the club. We will need to recruit some new people for the jobs, but there must be quite a few experienced scouts who would love to join  Newcastle in that role.

i doubt we really are after him, not if the club is about to be sold.

same old unimaginative newspaper tripe, if they need to fill a couple more lines they just chuck a couple of random team names in there to take up the space.

Center back? I thought you were a “proud Geordie”, Ed? If so it should be centre back.

On the subject of our youth players would anyone agree with me that if indeed we are light up front for tonights match against Man City I would rather see Nile Ranger get a crack than Ameobi?
I dont like to slag players off but Ameobi is predictable, yes he will run the lines and he is always a goal threat but Rangers form has to be taken seriously, I think he could be ready for the step up given the circumstances (ie. no Owen, Viduka etc.

You prefer the original French version to the US version, Centre Vs. center, whats the big deal ? There is no Geordie version , jerk !

Apart from the notion this kid could be Dabizas’ love-child, how is he ‘linked’ with Newcastle?
Ashley has said he’s spending no more and tbh, we have more urgent things to spend 3 million (we don’t have) on than a 16 year-old prospect.

Good news on the younster front. This Nile Ranger kid is playing well enough to warrant some first team time. Put him on the bench and give him a shot if Ameobi starts to fail or Martins gets injured

    My team for today

    ……………….Given
    Beye…Collo…..Taylor …..Bassong
    Geremi………Guthrie……..Zogbia
    …………Jonas………..Duff
    ……………..Martins

Harper, Butt, Xisco, Ranger, Enrique, Edgar
    ………..
