Oba Martins will start tonight as expected and interim manager Joe Kinnear makes a total of three changes from the side which drew at Everton more than two weeks ago.
Shola Ameobi and Sebastien Bassong come in for Charles N’Zogbia and Jose Enrique who both drop down to the subs bench.
Charles has been one of our best performers so his dropping to the bench has to be the surprise of the night. Andy Carroll also returns to the Newcastle substitutes, after finally recovering from a foot injury he picked up in July.
Joe has gone for Geremi on the right wing and Duff on the left with Ameobi and Martins up front. This game has come a little early for Jonas Gutierrez and he is not even on the subs bench tonight.
It’s yet another chance for Shola to show what he can do in a black and white strip, and we hope he can produce tonight, now that he’s starting.
Dietmar Hamman will start against his former club and Robinho also starts alongside fellow Brazilian Jo.
As expected Nicky Butt will captain the side tonight, in a game we really need to win and take all 3 points.

Comment #127@toonarmy08: I wish Shearer would stop flirting with us. He has no intentions of coming nor do would I be too pleased. His has no managerial credentials.
His only real asset would be that he can shut the fans up. I.e. Manage the fans. the last time we had someone like that he proved “unsackable” and abused his messianic status. We do not need another ride of that nature. We need someone of whom we can critical. Shearer like Keegan is beyond criticism.

Comment #136Anyone who says Joe Kinnear should stay on well heres the reason why.
He lost us three points when he took off Oba from the field, and then made another shocker by replacing Ameobi with a pathetic Carroll instead of putting on Xisco.
Two very poor decisions denied our boys a victory they really deserved.
Coloccini also disappointed me with Man Citys second goal – but he’d been brilliant up until then.
Duff, Martins, Bassong, Given, Guthrie and believe it or not Butt have had blinders.

If you think Ameobi played well, you are very very easily pleased.
He had an ok game by his standards but he was still out of his depth.
For a change the effort was there but unfortunately the skill and pace never will be…
When Martins went off we looked impotent up front but although I think the decision to take him off was a shocker well done JK for putting the spirit and belief back in the boys.
Had Zog come on for Ameobi, I think we would have taken all three points.

Comment #140Fair result. I did not think we were going to take anything from this game but I declare myself satisfied. The problem here is you demand too much from any other manager but Keegan. Had Keegan been in charge you would be lauding what a brilliant and well contrived point. We are building and the spirit is there. Were were down to 10 men early, we had a mountain to climb.
Well done JK and to Shola.
