Barton And Reserves Ease Past Middlebrough 4-1

Joey Barton came through a good 80 minutes tonight as Newcastle United reserves rather easily beat Middlesbrough Reserves 4-1 at Billingham.

Joey Barton – helped Newcastle to easy win at Billingham

Newcastle took the lead after only 4 minutes when James Marwood hit a good low drive past goalkeeper Jason Steele from just outside the area.

Then Tim Krul made a great save from his compatriot Marvin Emnes as Tim spread his body brilliantly to block the effort. Then 18 year old Ben Tozer cleared off the line as he somehow got Porritt’s shot just around the post from six yeards out.

The Andy Carroll, finally fit again scored with a great header after 60 minutes from a good cross from Jonny Godmark Richard Smallwood (62) then managed to lift the ball over Krul from close range for Boro’s only goal of the evening.

Then Godsmark, who had an excellent game tonight, placed a great cross over which was turned into his own net by Johnson (67).

The promising Nile Ranger, who scored a hat trick for the Under-18s against Barnsley on Saturday, got his third ever goal for the Reserves after Godsmark placed the ball on a plate for the 17 year-old to shoot home from 7 yards out.

It was a good solid display from our youngsters, and Joey put in an energetic accomplished performance.

Always sweet when we beat a local team – be it 1st or reserves.

Good to see Joey is back in the black and white again.

D-Day for Beye on Thursday – Hope springs eternal and I pray that he gets his card downgraded. Sod the pen – we need the ban lifted.,19528,11678_4365875,00.html

I think joe might just be the man to give the kids a chance. Did anybody go to this game? did joey look decent? i’m looking forward to seein him back in mid like think he could give us that spark we need. I think team VS Mackems will be.

Think he’ll give barton 20mins or so, but if butt struggles maybe he’ll get longer. Looking forward to it. 3 points i hope!!!!

Hi lads, Boro fan here, i went along to the game tonight and Newcastle deserved the win.

Barton did ok, nothing flash but his touch and passing were good. Was impressed with the two centre forwards, Carroll and Ranger. Those two were probably the difference on the night, as Boro lacked any presence up front.

Good win for the youngsters which will keep thier confidence up. I hope we keep this youth set up going as I feel we could use some of these youngsters in camio apprences throughout the season. Like Ars, too much players that are bought in only stiffles the development of our youth system, that like it or not owes a great deal to MA and DW!
