Newcastle Crowd Magnificent Last Night

There’s not doubt the Newcastle United crowd last night played a big part in the team’s wonderful 2-2 draw with Manchester City, which was so nearly a memorable victory for the gallant 10 men of Newcastle.

The Newcastle Crowd – the 11th man last night

The ground looked packed so we a little surprised to see the crowd was just 45,00, some 7,000 under capacity, but you would have never known it from the noise they made. And it was a great advertisement for the club that the game was beamed live around the world.

Certainly going down to 10 men after just 12 minutes with a controversial penalty wasn’t supposed to be in the script last night, and Geordie hearts sank when Beye was given his marching orders.

But strange things happen in football, and it almost turned out to be one of Newcastle’s most gallant ever victories at home, and the lads were only minutes short of getting all 3 points – which their performance fully deserved.

Joe Kinnear acknowledged the crowd today on nufcTV:

“They drove the team on – they were like an extra player,” “We had ten on the pitch and the extra man was in the crowd.”

“They gave the players an extra lift and the least we deserved was the draw.” “I said before the game how important the fans would be and they were magnificent.”

The drama that is Joe Kinnear managing Newcastle United is also very interesting to watch, as Joe seems hardly able to contain himself about how proud and honored he is to be leading the famous Newcastle United club.

Make no mistake, we are a very well respected club, despite the shambles going on right now, and those who know football know Newcastle is a very special place on the world map of football. Joe is very aware of that – and it really shows.

But two draws in two games, while the performances have been excellent – well at least apart from the first half at Everton, will probably not be enough to secure Joe any long term ambitions at the club. We think he’ll need to put a string of wins together for the new owners to be swayed, whoever they may be.

But that’s just our opinion
– let us know what you think.

Comments very welcome – just keep them decent – many thanks.

Listened on the radio and the crowd were the Beye substiute.

One can only speculate what the score’d have been had we had 11 on the field for the whole match.

a lot of people have been prasing JFK because of the massive turn around – and rightly so.

but one thought that keeps enterin my mind is – is this the team that was always there? is this really JFK’s doing or are the players mind set back to what it was in our first game against manure?

its an interesting thought…maybe he has just instilled the confidence back into the lads – the confidence that was already there. thats not to say he hasn’t done anything – but he might not have ever brought anythin that wasn’t already there.

goes to show how badly this club was managed by ashley

But, pak-toon // Oct 21, 2008 at 11:06, if all Joe’s done is instill confidence, he’s worth his weight at the moment.

i agree lesh. i am very much behind joe. but if u look at it all in retrospect its quite sad that we are able to pull out results like this with 10 men and missin people like jonas, owen, and barton and still get such good results

feel like had ashley been smart about it he would’ve seen this team is capable of a lot and i have to give all that credit to keegan. the credit given to joe is that he has been able to get the guys to remember exactly what kind of confidence they had when keegan began the season

Newcastle United Mad is absolutely Sh*t like..

“Sorry Joe… YOU cost us 2 points”

It really is a cack site.. And while Ed does view the world through his black and white tinted specs.. That is much more my preference than the boll*cks spouted on that site

Does anyone else think that the “unoffical Magpies – Newcastle United Mad” site is crap? Their latest article saying Joe blew it. Under the circusmstances that draw was like a win. Joe has to take some credit for it.

the crowd was great because it was THE REAL TEAM on the pitch…
I think that the main reason for this turnover is JFK FACTOR.

I think it was probably the best atmosphere ever in a home game this season despite it not being a full house. Im hoping for more the same please.
