Great new today for Newcastle United in that Habib Beye has had his red card against Manchester City overturned, and is now free to play in this weekend’s Tyne-Wear derby.
Habib Beye - great news fro Senegal International
It’s just a pity that another blunder from Rob Styles cost Newcastle the win on Monday night - do we now get an extra two points?
A statement from the Football Association today read:
At a Regulatory Commission hearing today, a claim for wrongful dismissal from Newcastle United defender Habib Beye was upheld.
As a result, Beye’s one-match suspension has been withdrawn.
Beye was shown a red card for making a last ditch tackle on Robhino, but replays clearly showed he deflected the ball after 12 minutes of Newcastle’s match against Manchester City on Monday night. Most would have thought it was abrillaint last ditch tackle by the Senegalese and saved a goal, but not referee Rob Styles.
Since the game most observers thought it was not a foul but it cost Newcastle 2 points, because we were down to 10 men from that time on.
And it’s yet another embarrassing error by referee Rob Styles, who in one single moment had more effect on the game and its result than either of the teams over the 90 minutes. That’s not good - not good at all.
On the other hand it’s a brave decision by the FA, who seem willing to right the wrongs of referees, at least as best they can - and that’s good, but we would have liked to have seen clarification on why it was not a foul, as a kind of precedent.
We didn’t expect Beye’s card to be overturned in all honesty, but that’s just great news, and augers well for the Sunderland game on Saturday.
And Habib himself will be delighted, because he is desperate to play at Sunderland, and now he will get his wish, and our side will be even stronger, with probably our best back four lining up in
Beye Taylor Coloccini and Bassong.
Comments very welcome.

should think so aswell, they should punish the incompetent W******* Styles
2 xfer // Oct 23, 2008 at 14:12
Styles should be banned for future Newcastle game. Hate the sight of him. I saw this coming when i saw him being the ref for the game. Seems to be enjoying the limelight. Cant say how pissed i was when he gave the penalty and sent Beye off.

Great news, nob styles needs to be punished for his blunders, and I hope he is made to apologies
4 Micky Toon // Oct 23, 2008 at 14:14
Styles has already been demoted to fourth official for this weekend. IMHO he should be demoted to the lower divisions until he proves himself again. IIRC Urine Rennie had to do a stint in the Championship before they let him ref a Premier League game again.

Justice has been served….Lets not start to comment that the result cost us three points! If anything the decision rallied the players together and we began to fight because of it! Yes we very well might have won with 11 men, but we might have also got beat! Don’t let anything take away a great performance after the incident!
Great news that we habib back for sat…bring them on….SMB

Line-up for Sat

Beye Taylor Colo Bassong
Jonas Barton Butt Guthrie Duff

Bench: Zog, Geremi, ameobi, Harps, Edgar, Carroll etc.. maybe owen.
Suicide if we start 4-4-2 away to them, hard to say i know but they will be as up for it if not more up for it as us. if its 0-0 with 20 mins left then go 4-4-2 and have a go. We cannot afford to lose this game! win here, beat WBA at home and we are lookin a hell of a lot better

With everything that’s been going on around the club recently.. It actually feels like we’ve just won the league.. Maybe thats a bit extreme like but cant say i expected that at all..
10 beyethegreat // Oct 23, 2008 at 14:38
this season has seen referees or ex referees get a lot more media attention
i imagine this is part of the respest campaign in trying to get a refs view on the game
so why isnt graham poll taking it seriousely
when he sides with a ref just coz he is a ref like he did with the beye situation there is no point in having a ref or ex refs perspective coz it is completely biased

Sun’lun’s Burnin’ thats not a bad team mate!
with the likes of Jonas, Duffer and Barton breaking from midfield to support oba could be an option plus we would be more solid

Great news for Beye and us, that the red card has been overturned. Its the least they could do!!
Ed, not convinced our best back four has Taylor in it at the moment. This game is going to need cool, calm, collected heads, to get through the first half. I’m not convinced Taylor can stay awake that long.

It’s great news if of any benefit re. the ManC game as the damage has been done. Great for morale to have him back though.
On the negative side I would put money on it happening again to any of the teams outside of the current big four (not including Hull). Seems to be the trend at present.
It’s a bit like Formula 1 where the rules makers are frightened they will upset the big guns. Hamilton should be world champion by now.

Sun’lun’s Burnin’ i agree that is the team we should definately put out with Jonas and Duff playing like Robben and Duff at Chelski pushing up to support the front man, Switching wings ETC.
Does anyone know what Bartons odds for being our first goalscorer are because i remember Bowyer scoring against us in his first match after his ban and i have a feeling Joey will do the same against the fair weather brigade.

Good news !! I think we all know Edgar isnt a RB and I think when we have a CB out Bassong will move in and Enrique put at LB so realistically Edgar should jump at the opportunity to leave asap, talented player, he has put his own career on hold to act as cover for a few years now so good luck to the kid if and when he leaves. Bet Graham Poll and Styles both feel like complete tools after Monday night. Good.
Lets keep it real lads as it not going to be a walk in the park, but we did well against Manure, Citey and Everton. Top 4/8 fodder so if we play like we did on Monday we just could walk away with 3 points.
All we need now is an announcement about the sale and its defo a good day.

if we play 4-5-1 then it shud be ameobi on his own up front and have martins on the left wing and jonas(duff if jonas is not fit) on the right this would mean having pace on the wings for ameobis knock downs, ameobi may not be the most agile when it comes to scoreing but he’s not useless at holdin the ball up, and with the pace and skill of martins and jonas/duff on the wing it will hopefully work a treat
given

the FA’a decision just makes Styles look more of an incompetent tit!!! he had the chance b4 2day to rescind the card, in lite of video evidence and what every one (poll apart) has said, he didnt, now the FA have said he was wrong!! surely his place as a ref is now untenable as a top flite or any level ref, how many mistakes does he have to make!!! pack in now and join Poll, game is better without u both, your not up 2 the standard reqd. As for sat, squad is much stronger, not sure on formation, but the mackems are going to have to play at best and us off par to win it, 3 - 1 the toon!!!!

i know a lot of people want to use this incident to beat down rob styles with but imo they shouldn’t.
i have always thought he is a decent ref who has habit of making huge mistakes when making penalty decisions. and that could be eradicated almost completly by allowing linesman to be involved more and tv replays.
there are far worse refs than styles who don’t even understand the basic rules of football never mind just getting the big decisions wrong. alan whiley springs to mind.
