Owen Has 40-60 Chance Of Making Derby

October 23rd, 2008 · 22 Comments

Joe Kinnear still holds out hope that both Michael Owen and Jonas Gutierrez will be fit for the game at Sunderland on Saturday.

Michael Owen - 40-60 chance for Saturday

Joe told the Evening Chronicle today:

“Tomorrow is D-day as far as Michael Owen and Jonas Gutierrez are concerned.” “I have to say that Michael is a big doubt and it is probably 60-40 against him being involved.”

“As far as Gutierrez is concerned, he has a bit better chance than Michael and I would say he is 50-50.” “However, we are prepared to give them both every chance.”

We have an important game against WBA on Tuesday night, so unless Michael is definitely ready for Saturday, he probably shouldn’t be risked, and there has to be a better chance for Jonas, but we’re surprised it’s still just 50-50, and we thought he would start on the bench.

It’s unfortunate Michael is not available because he is a big-game player, and the last time we played Sunderland he had the game won for us before half time, with two goals - a fabulous header from a superb  Geremi right wing center, and a dodgy taken penalty.

It’s a little mysterious on Owen, because we were told after his second scan earlier in the week that  it would be another 10 days before he is fit, but things must have improved since then.

Comments welcome.

I’d like to see Jonas back - he has that drive and determination when carrying the ball forward, that can make a big difference when playing away from home……..

Come on !!!!!! lets stuff the SMBs !!!!

    cb - coloccini
    rm - geremi

Styles should be banned for future Newcastle game. Hate the sight of him. I saw this coming when i saw him being the ref for the game. Seems to be enjoying the limelight. Cant say how pissed i was when he gave the penalty and sent Beye off.
