It’s been a very even game at the Stadium of Light this afternoon and half the score of 1- 1 probably reflects how the game has gone so far.
But it was Newcastle who conceded the first goal, yet again, when Malbranque cut in from the right and is afforded too much space to shoo The Frenchman completely missed his shot but finds the unmarked Djibril Cisse, who puts the ball home from just eight yards out. We then saw a beautiful back somersault from Cisse after he scored.
But like this Newcastle side under Joe Kinnear, the lads came back into the game and yes, that man Shola Ameobi scored again to get a second goal in as many games to level the scores, and this time it was a header.
There was mass celebration among the Newcastle faithful as the local lad headed home from Geremi’s perfect free-kick at the far post. Certainly Geremi makes lots of goals when he’s in this Newcastle side, and here’s another one today.
This is what Shola wanted today – a goal and he has delivered again for his side – as his transfer price will continue to rise with important goals like these – of course that’s if we still want him to leave.
On 43 minutes Duff cut in and had a real chance but he shot rather weakly, from a narrow angle, straight at goalkeeper Fulop. It was a chance Damien should have done a lot better with, but it seems that Newcastle are ready to win this game.
It was a bit depressing when we were one goal down, but the lads have again come back into the game, and while we’ll have to watch Sunderland, who are usually at their best in the second half of games this season, the game is there to be won by either side. Let’s hope it’s not the red and whites because that would be too much to take right now.
A little bit of luck and we can take all 3 points, and the lads have done well in the first half to end up all square, in the red hot atmosphere that is the Stadium of Light today.
A defeat is something we don’t want to even think about, which is why we won’t even mention it. 😀
A win and we’ll be dancing in the streets.
Howay the Lads!!!!
