Newcastle Unchanged – Barton, Jonas On Bench

Newcastle United are not surprisingly unchanged for Saturday’s Tyne-Wear derby with Joey Barton (suspension) and Jonas Gutierrez (shoulder) returning to the subs bench.
That means Oba Martins will again partner Shola Ameobi in attack with Nicky Butt captaining the side. The Newcastle bench looks very strong in Jonas Gutierrez, Jose Enrique, Charles N’Zogbia, Claudio Cacapa, Joey Barton and Xisco

Xisco is preferred to Andy Carroll, who had a good run-out with the Reserves earlier this week.

For Sunderland, Kenwyne Jones returns to the squad but is only on the bench after a knee injury.

TEAMS

Sunderland: Martin Fulop, George McCartney, Dean Whitehead, Steed Malbranque, Djibril Cisse, Kieran Richardson, El-Hadji Diouf, Danny Collins, Dwight Yorke, Pascal Chimbonda, Anton Ferdinand
Subs: Phil Bardsley, Teemu Tainio, Michael Chopra, Kenwyne Jones, Grant Leadbitter, Andy Reid, Nick Colgan

Newcastle United: Shay Given, Habib Beye, Sebastien Bassong, Steven Taylor, Fabricio Coloccini, Danny Guthrie, Nicky Butt, Damien Duff, Geremi, Shola Ameobi, Oba Martins
Subs: Steve Harper, Jonas Gutierrez, Jose Enrique, Charles N’Zogbia, Claudio Cacapa, Joey Barton, Xisco

Referee: Mike Riley
Attendance: tbc

infact, this is probably the strongest squad weve had in the rescent months , the bench looks strong, and if changes are needed we can cover them

Looks a good line up. Hope they preform like they did when down to 10 men. Bench looks very strong. Looks like that could make a difference.

Good team tho’ I hoped Jonas would have started, cause his speed can cause them lots of trouble. But if he comes on he will be fresh to open up their defence. My scoreline is: 0-2 (Martins and Jonas). I really want to see his Spidey mask today.

Good luck also to Kinnear, who is doing a very good job ATM.

would have liked to see Enrique at Left Back with Bassong & Colo in central defense and maybe Xisco instead of Shola, but Shola worked hard and played well last week, so maybe he deserved a run.

    Oi, Geremi, piss-poor free kick.

This proves a lot of ppl have no idea about football seeing articles that newcastle will win 1-3 or 0-4 i knew poss sneak a draw. How can a club with the turmoil its in suddenly just coz its local rivals turn into a top4 club. Sillyness. Esp as no one wants to upset some of the players that cant cut it.
