Joe Kinnear complained today that Joey Barton has been treated like a mass murderer.
Joe Kinnear – doesn’t like treatment Joey is getting
Joe was rather dejected when he talked to the Sunday Sun but still thinks the lads didn’t do too bad:
“I thought we deserved something today,” “I thought we did ok, and had the best chance when Shola Ameobi went through with just the keeper to beat.”
“I’m disappointed we dropped off and conceded a free kick we didn’t need to for their winner, but it was a fantastic free kick. Otherwise, there was nothing between the teams.”
On the Joey Barton incident when he was warming up as a substitute during the second half, Kinnear said:
“I didn’t see any incident. I was watching the game.” “It’s a bit unfair – it’s not Joey Barton’s fault, is it? He has been in the thick of everything this week.”
“Every mass murder that has gone on in this country, his name has been associated with.”
Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given admitted he was a little shaken by being confronted by two Sunderland fans, who came on the pitch after Kieran Richardson’s stunning bullet winner.
“If they’d have got any nearer, I don’t know what I would have done,”
As we said earlier today, Joey will get some heat from away fans and even from some opposition players. He’s just going to have to go through that, and you can look on it as part of his punishment, for the foolish acts he has committed.
We do hope however, that Joey comes through all this, and if he does he will be a lot stronger person and a much better guy than he was, that’s for sure.
But it will be stern test.
