Amazing events at White Hart Lane may have not gone unnoticed by Joe Kinnear this morning.
Gus Poyet – can he help Joe out at Newcastle?
Spurs replaced manager Juande Ramos with Harry Redknapp on Saturday, and of course Harry was very close to taking the Newcastle United job only last January.
We’re sure Harry will make a big difference at the London club, and he’s already made a winning start to his tenure there by winning 2-0 against Bolton yesterday, for their very first win of the season. Well at least Spurs fans will be happy this morning.
Gus Poyet is now available, and it may be that Joe Kinnear will approach Gus to see if he is willing to come up to Newcastle and help him out with the coaching over the next 5 weeks or so at Newcastle.
It may even work for Gus, who can get his mind off being sacked, and get involved in what will be a big challenge for him. We like Gus a lot, because he seems to have so much spirit and is obviously great with the players, having played the game himself at the highest level.
We have a very very thin coaching staff which is another reason we need to give Joe, Chris and the other coaches all the support we can muster in these very uncertain times. The 40 year-old Poyet is of course Uruguayan, and we have Ignacio Gonzalez from Uruguay currently at the club.
Come to think of it, Ignacio should be recovered from his Achilles injury very soon and we wonder if there are any Uruguayan restaurants in Newcastle these days? :D.
We hope that Dennis Wise or Mike Ashley can help to get Poyet to the club to help Joe with the coaching side of things – that’s only if Joe wants that help of course.
Comments very welcome – but please keep them decent – thanks.

Comment #81What i’m really trying to say mate is that goalkeeping is the one area we don’t have to worry about. We are blessed with probably two of the best goalkeeepers in the EPL.
There is a serious problem with the defence though and there has been for far too long.
The problem exists no matter who is in goal and I really struggle to understand what the problem is.

Comment #82The back line just do not look as comfortable with Shay behind them as they do with Harper…
…It’s an observation not a critisism!..

i totally understand y’frustration mate…
…It does me heed in!..
…I’m just comparin’ last season & this…& based on that i’m sure Harper has shipped less…
…If we just checked both of their last 20 games say!..
…Since Shay got that horrid injury, he ain’t been the same…I think he’s gettin’ back to his old self, but he ain’t there yet…& i just don’t think we should play fast & loose with goalkeepin’…

Comment #84But why then does Harper not get his chance? There has to be a point where a manager sits down and thinks to himself “the reason we lost today and the reason the defense is so poor is because they are not comfortable with Given”
If it is so evident to the fans surely it must have crossed the minds of someone of our managers down the years?

Comment #85It winds me up mate.
NUFC = poor defence, always has been looks like it always will be.
It is accepted that we will leak goals but why should we just accept it?

Comment #86No-one wants one of their best, most commited, time-servered servants to slide, so they think that stickin’ with it will sort it out!..
…It won’t…
…There are plenty of players in the prem that everyone glorifies that aren’t as good as they think, or have lost something!..& plenty where the contrary is true!..
…When you watch a game on tv it’s amazin’ sometimes what people say about players…& i find ma’self LOL at some of the dumbassed coments…& think, what game were they watchin’!?!..

there’s a classic example mate…We had the second best D under KK 1st time, but ALL the pundits said our D was crap!..
…I remember when Roeder got us into europe, 7th best D in the league, yet everyone said it was one of the worst…It’s bollox!..
…They believe what they want!..

Comment #88I’ll admit to having a slighty blinkered and biased opinion of Shay.
I know they earn more money than me and you will ever see but I do feel kinda sorry for quality players (Shearer/Harper/Given among others) who give their heart and soul to the club and who eventually walk away empty handed (trophy wise).

Comment #89Yeah have noticed that. Couple of seasons ago we were getting slaughtered for having the worst defence in the world yet the Spuds had conceeded more goals than us and there wasn’t a peep in the media.

Comment #91the media always aim at nufc and far away sides, almost allt he papers are based in london, and have peopel from london reporting, therefore mainyl giving biased opinions in that way, and im not bashign shay hes a brillaint keeper, but, are defence ahsnt been great since kk the 1st time, and weve had given ing oal allt hat time, with sum decent defenders, we jsut seem to play betetr with harper in goal, therefore he deserves a chance, and as for why doesnt shay get dropped, last time shay was dropped he threw a hissy fit n threatened to leave, therefore managers will pcik him to ensure we have the two best keepers in the league at the club at harpers expense which i believe is wrong, if he cant take the bench, so be it, let him leave

Comment #96Agree Obafan, sadly Taylor is going nowhere. He has single handedly ruined my enjoyment at the match since he arrived on the scene. I just dont understand what people see in him? Can anyone show me a defender who smirks when he makes mistakes like he does and then goes mouthing off to the media afterwards pretending he’s a Premiership big shot particularly to his confidente and close friend alan oliver,????
All I can say is as long as this creep plays for our club we will win nothing !!!

Comment #98Spurs got arry and quickly because they fired the old board and payed their dues. Do you think we offered to compensate portsmouth with 5 mill and give the man full control or did Ashley assume arry would come because of the size of the club and offer them/him a pittance to do so whilst also telling him he would not be the last say in the transfer room.
Arry is the best, dodgiest, most cunning transfer market operator of all time. He gets good buys, good players and does some dodgy deals.
I think we forget that Given seems to make two or three good saves per goal conceded. I don’t think thats bad as our back line is giving players too much time and space in the box to choose their shot and power up.
Poyet bugger off we dont need another voice in the background

Comment #99to punk shunk and paul
you say the keeping hasnt been good
remember the penelty save
remember the game against arsenal where thery had what like 20 shots on goal and scored only 3
remember the save against ireland against man city
you want him to save all 1 on 1
i would say it again the problem is that our midfield is not helping our defense out…..
remember the game against man u our mid field was there all the time to help our defense, we looked solid…
we conceded when taylor was out…..
and butt i am not a big fan, but he is the only player in the mid field who is willing to raise his hands for the ball and pass everyone else is busy showing their skills
so i am happy that barton is back ….
given
beye……..cacapa……..colo………….enrique
duff……… barton…….. guthrie/butt……. jonas
……………………………………….nzog/ameobi
…………………….martins/xisco
taylor needs time to think abt what he is doing
still mthink he is good
