Nicky Butt has finally lost his battle with a knee injury, after playing with painkillers during the Wear-Tyne derby on Saturday.
Nicky Butt – succumbs to his knee injury
It seems like Joe Kinnear is a huge fan of the 33 year-old former Manchester United midfield star, and thinks that his good defensive qualities should nicely complement the more attacking play of Joey Barton.
Joe told the Newcastle Journal today:
“Nicky Butt has been one of best midfielders in the world and gives something as well – stability – and he’s tough as old boots whereas Joey is completely the opposite,”
“Joey is more offensive. He likes to drive forward and link up play in the last third.”
But Butt’s absence means Kinnear will now have to give the captain’s armband to somebody else tonight, and we hope he gives it to his fellow countryman Shay Given.
The Ireland international will be favorite to have the honour, and we know Shay’s record when he has been captain is very good. We fully expect Shay to be handed the armband tonight , and we also hope we can get all 3 points, which will help alleviate our situation in the league a little.
That’s what we need the lads to do tonight, and then we can think about how we can beat Aston Villa at home next Monday evening.
Comments very welcome.
