As we mentioned yesterday, January is approaching and today we are linked with a second player who may come to Newcastle United, or at least that’s what’s being reported.
Lance Davids – we were interested in him last December
Most of these stories will be unfounded, but as we did during the summer, we’ll report on most of them, and at least we are able to put together a decent dossier on the players.
We know our readers are interested in the transfer dealings, and we will also try to say how truthful the stories are, but we found last summer that can be very difficult, because sometimes quotes from players and agents themselves are often made up. Anyway, we should take most of them with a pinch of salt.
The player we are reported interested in today is Lance Davids, who is a midfielder and plays for Djurgårdens IF in Stockholm, Sweden. Djurgardens chairman Alf Johansson says the 23-year-old will leave at the end of the current Swedish season, but that no firm offers have been received for him.
Davids told Expressen:
“The contract ends at the end of the year and no-one has offered me a new one,” “They don’t want me to stay.”
Last December, he visited Newcastle United for a trial, and also had trials with Blackburn Rovers, but nothing came of them. We reported on it at the time, which was the middle of December.
Presumably if he runs down his contract he would become a free agent and wouldn’t cost anything in the transfer market. But we don’t know how good he really is, although he seems versatile enough, as he can play right wing and right back, as well as in central midfield.
He is just short of 5’10” tall and has played for South Africa 10 times. He played 21 times TSV 1860 München from 2005-2006 before moving to Djurgardens, and he’s played 39 times for the Swedish club, scoring 6 goals.
He played 22 times for the South Africa Under-23 side.
Comments very welcome.
