Joe Kinnear had admitted today that Aston Villa will be his toughest test yet in his short career as Newcastle United’s manager.
Joe Kinnear – his toughest test yet against Aston Villa
Joe told the Evening Chronicle today:
“Everton in my first game was tough, but tonight is going to be the toughest yet because my old pal Martin O’Neill has worked wonders at Aston Villa.”“But I have complete faith in my team because on our day we are capable of beating anyone in the Premier League.”
“Obviously we all know that we are bottom of the table after just about every result in the past couple of days went against us.”
“However, we also know that if we do win tonight then we will jump up no fewer than six places to 14th including going above Sunderland. This really is an amazing situation, because only five points separate the bottom 13 clubs.”
“It is amazing what a couple of victories would do for any of those 13 teams and, as far as we are concerned, we feel that our win over West Brom last week took the shackles off us.” “Now we have to take the next step by picking up a good result against Aston Villa tonight.”
Newcastle have only one win in their last six home games against Aston Villa at St James’ Park.
Joe added:
“Its a bit annoying to find ourselves bottom this morning because there were so many plusses and positives in our last game with West Bromwich Albion.”
“When I came here we had four points from six games, but I have managed to get five points from the four games I have been in charge with a team I inherited from someone else.”
“And if I am still here in January I will be looking to freshen up the squad with some players of my own.” “But what happens to me is not important.”
“What is important is that we move off the bottom of the Premier League by getting a result against Aston Villa tonight.”
Joe’s right and in our current situation we have to go from game to game, starting tonight with Aston Villa, and the only thing that matters right now is that we play well and get a result.
Hopefully all 3 points, and we can talk about being in 14th place tomorrow morning. 😀

Comment #2Correct, it will be so c’mon Joe, have words with the defence, encorage Oba to run at ’em and create mayhem with Amoebe, Duff or MO picking up the results.
It’s likely to be a cold night so some thermals for the defence to stop them freezing on the night!
Alternatively, maybe the supporters can make it hot for Villa?

Comment #3The only players I am worried about tonight are Ashley Young who is almost world-class and Carew.
Agbonlahor is a headless chicken the majority of the time and there others players like Barry are amazingly overrated.

Comment #8It is going to be a big toughie. I’m just hoping that the crowd can intimidate them, while Shola leans on defenders and people like Colo put in some good ‘reducers’ early on without getting sent off.
Sorry to sound aggressive, but I think those three things will be crucial against such a well-organised side. Basically, you won’t beat the team – but you can put the individuals right off the game.
Get stuck in lads!
