Chris Hughton spoke to Setanta Sports after last night’s game when Joe Kinnear was not available after losing his voice as he shouted instructions at the players, and probably something else to the officials. 😀
Chris with Joe – excellent partnership for Newcastle
Last night saw Newcastle’s first successive league wins of the season, and stretched to eight the number of points Newcastle have picked up in 5 games under Joe Kinnear, in a short 5 weeks at Newcastle.
Chris talked after the game to Setanta Sports, who broadcast the game live around the world:
“It is a big win, particularly after the weekend which wasn’t a particularly good one for us with regard to results. We felt we needed to get something from the game to go on and get some confidence in the lads, so it was important that we won.”
“It’s such a tough game and every game is a tough one. We go from the position that we were in before the weekend, then everybody winning at the weekend and find ourselves in the position that we did.”
“At the moment our results have been okay,” “I think it’s important to get confidence from results and climbing away from the foot of the table.” “What you want to do is improve. We knew where we were before the game and we knew we needed to improve.”
“We know where we are now and what we now have with this group of lads is the opportunity to improve even more.”
And improve we can, if we can keep our feet on the ground our next two games are winnable, against Fulham away on Sunday at 4:00pm local time. And then the following Saturday we have Wigan Athletic at home, on 15th November with a 3:00 pm KO.
6 points from those two games could have us nicely placed before we have to tackle mighty Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 22nd November, which we are told could be D (decision) day for the Newcastle club.
Comments very welcome.
