The FA has confirmed that Joey Barton will face no further action, after Joey flicked out a hand towards Abgonlahor’s nose on Monday night.
Joey Barton – he’ll have a lot of this stuff to put up with
That’s good, but apparently the altercation has not been allowed to end there, and now the FA is to wait and see if the Aston Villa club will make an official complaint, following some allegations – unfounded as far as we can tell – that Joey Barton racially abused Gabriel Agbonlahor, in Newcastle’s win on Monday night.
An FA spokesman said today:
“We are aware of the rumors circulating and have had a number of calls on the subject, but it is difficult to comment any further on something that has no further substance to it.”
“We take seriously any allegations of racist abuse and will obviously act accordingly if we receive any official complaint from Aston Villa.”
We’d be surprised if Aston Villa make anything of this. We think the altercation is making a mountain out of a mole hill, as Joey indicated yesterday. Hey, these are grown men, and we’re sure some things are said in the heat of the moment – but they are hardly the fabric of a law suit. They will get insults from other players all the time, but we all get that – they should try running a web site.
Agbonlahor’s agent Tim Webb has said that Villa are looking into the matter, but again we would not expect any action to be taken by them.
Webb told The Guardian today:
“I have not spoken to Gabby. It was a day off for him on Tuesday because he has such a hectic schedule with Villa and his mobile has been turned off.”
“I am aware that Villa are looking into the situation.”
But this is a good indication to Joey that anything he does on the field will be magnified and looked at in great detail, because there is a section of people out there, who will believe he should not still be in the game.
It looks like they will do everything they can to make his life that much more difficult during his comeback.
Unfortunately for Joey, that’s the way it is, and he’s going to have to go through this to make a successful comeback.

Comment #83If he was racist towards Agbon, do you really think agbon would shake hands with barton after? Come of it, itwas just some insults which is part and parcel of the game. Just like im sure scholsey gets called a ginger tw*t. All blown out of proportion.

Comment #84AO I dont know how you dare say Newcastle are famed for rascism when Spurs have just been done of the FA for rascist chants you muppet.
I hate it when someone has no leverage for an argument so resorts to making up their own script in an attemt to cover theire ar*e.

Heres my comment (with the swearing)
Imsick and tired of the word racist being banded about whenever there is an altercatino between a white person towards a black person.
My point is plainly that if the white person insults that man, it doesnt make him racist.
For example, I think Zimbabwe’s Robert Mugabe is the biggest #bad word, in the universe and he just so happens to be black… does that make me racist…
Clearly not, because I am delighted Obama is the new United States President.
But even there, Obama is not Black, he is of mixed race, and is just as much white as he is black, but really the colour of ones skin is irrelevant.
I feel it is the people who make issues out of altercations between, players of different race that are the true racists because they segregate players according to colour.
If it had so happened that Agbonglhor swore at Barton and mocked his hair style – I can be certain that racism would not even be muted…
Fifa says “Lets kick racism out of football”
I say: “lets kick politics out of football”.

Comment #87You need to write a strong article about this recent saga. It seems that the media and clubs here and there are keen to take the advantage of the vulnerable state of Barton – and that’s why everyone jumped on the bandwagon. The NUFC fans now should get behind the lad – let’s give him his chance – and should demand an apology from the media, and specifically Aston Villa. Does ONeil have the guts and courage to apologise?
