HT: Fulham 1 Newcastle 0 – Newcastle Sluggish

Newcastle have been second best in the first half in driving rain at Craven Cottage, and Fulham deserve their 1-0 advantage, but it was a poor error by stand-in center-back Cacapa that gifted Fulham their goal, after 23 minutes, which is only the 9th goal the Cottagers have scored in 11 games this season.

One of the things we couldn’t do today if we were to get a 3rd successive win is give away a silly goal, but that’s exactly what Claudio Cacapa did after 23 minutes when he didn’t get enough height on his header, which hit Coloccini in the back and rolled nicely into the path of Andy Johnson, who put in into the net in an instant.

Fabio Capello is at the game, maybe to check on Owen, who is yet to play in the game, but maybe he is checking also on Joey Barton, but Joey and Nicky Butt are only second best today to Danny Murphy and Jimmy Bullard, who are completely bossing midfield.

Enrqiue also looks a little uncertain at lefyt back and Fulham have attacjed a lot more than Newcastle in the first half, and have looked the better side.

With Cacapa looking slow and hesitant maybe Kinnear should have started Bassong at center-back, since when he’s played there he’s looked solid, but the defense is missing Taylor today, the midfield is being bossed around, and Ameobi and Martins are finding it hard to get into the game, because of a lack of service.

Duff and Jonas look good on the wings but are a little ineffective, and need to run more at the Fulham defense.

But this is a good time for Joe Kinnear to give the players a BIG WAKE UP CALL at half-time, because we are playing sluggish football and nowhere near what we can play. The lads seem half asleep.

Joe may even bring on Bassong for Cacapa, if we want to turn this game around, which is going Fulham’s way, and is a very disappointing performance from the team.

If we continue this form in the second half – we will lose this game and deserve to.

Test the keeper early and I think they’ll get nervous.

Butt has again been poor along with many others but the difference being that he cannot run back to get the ball off his opponent as he aint got the legs leving us a man short in those positions……
Put Guthrie on and get some pace in midfield

Agreed, which is why Butt should stay back as a holding midfielder, a volante.

What about Owen on for Butt in the hole behind Oba and Shola and drop Barton back to DM?

Why no Bassong at CB? Its his natural position. In my opinion h should be splitting time with Taylor anyway.

Actually think Enrique looks OK. I’d also bring in Guthrie for Butt

i dont know how much you can blame cacapa for that, he was practically shoved out the way as opposed to being turned.

..however, that doesnt make up for the fact he’s had a howler, and has essentially cost us both goals.

Andrewnufc-johnson was bursting into the box and cacapa had missed him originally, he had no other choice but to try and take the ball and bail him out, not really foolish.
we have however conceded i think 6 penalties already this season?
Martins needs to drive further into the box sometimes i think, he seems hell bent on shooting early and from distance to score these spectacular strikes, if he just ran it into the box and smashed it as hard as he does from 15 yards as opposed to 30, surely the strike would be unstoppable.

51times-it was like inside the first ten when he blasted it over the bar, there was no one in front of him and there’s no question as to whether he’s quicker than the fulham back four. if he’d just ran at them theres a chance he wouldnt even need to blast it, but if he did it would surely take a fantastic save to stop him.
two golden chances missed there, owen especially.

we’re playing the game on the edge of their box just now, the problem is we’ve had our chances to score, a few excellent chances it has to be said and we havent taken them.

The ref is just another puppet of London, Murphy should have been sent off and Beye won the ball.

Jonas has had his worst game of his Newcastle career for us today and that’s why he came off. To be fair, I think Shola has had a great game. Martins hasn’t done much. Barton has been pretty good today as well. I feel like Enrique has thrown away the ball way too many times. The ref hasn’t been on our side either.

Btw. all the Taylor bashers – I guess you are happy he isn’t playing today?
