Ashkan Dejagah A Replacement For Mark Viduka?

Newcastle United are keeping tabs on Wolfsburg’s German Under-21 international striker Ashkan Dejagah, but we don’t think it’s necessarily a contingency plan in case Michael Owen moves on in January or next summer.

Ashkan Dejagah – 22 year old German Under-21 striker

We wouldn’t be at all surprised if Joe Kinnear, given he is still here in January, will not try to move Mark Viduka on, and get some money for him. His contract is up this summer, and he’s on around £65K/week but has only played 28 times (21 starts) for Newcastle and scored 7 goals, since signing in the summer of last year.

We do have a one year option  on him we think, but don’t believe Newcastle will take him up on that.

To say Mark is injury probe is a massive understatement.

Ashkan Dejagah was born in Tehran, Iran 22 years ago last July, and has emerged as a target after impressing Director (football) Dennis Wise playing for his country against France’s Under-21s just over two weeks ago.

Michael Owen contract runs out next summer – and is free to talk to other clubs in January, which he will no doubt do, if the Newcastle situation doesn’t get sorted out quickly.

Michael can elect to play for Newcastle though then end of this season and become a free agent in the summer and get a bumper contract from his new club. We also believe Newcastle would offer him decent terms, but we have no idea if the situation will be settled with a new owner and a permanent manager by January.

Newcastle may give up on Mark Viduka, since he’s always injured and is now 33 years old, so the injuries will hardly start abating now. Mark can hardly be said to be earning his wages on Tyneside, and yes we know – it’s not his fault.

We have Andy Carroll (19) and Shola Ameobi (27) at the club and youngsters Nile Ranger (17) and Fabio Zamblera (18) all coming through, but it suggests they are not ready for first team duty for a while. Ameobi is currently doing a decent job at Newcastle but we may still elect to let him go.

It also doesn’t say much for the future of Spaniard Xisco at Newcastle, who is just 22 years old, and was only signed by Wise in the summer for £5.7M.   Not a good use of Newcastle’s money, it would seem.

What do you think?

Titus Bramble your name makes perfect sense as you sound like a bloody idiot…
we need new wingers? eh? What exactly is wrong with jonas, Duff and zogs?
we’ve a solid defence apart from lb..you got that right, but taylor needs games with colo to start playing consistently well, beye is quality and bassong is another strong up-and-comer…
at centre mid we’ve got barton (sheer class), butt (will soon need replacing) and guthrie (promising) so i understand that we could do definately do with a cm…but a world class cm- no point in bringing in anyone average as we have players of that calibre that can play that position anyway…

Cacapa must not be in the first XI again he did not win a thing all game yesterday Colli was a one man central defence and was worse off for Cacapa presence.

Ameobi was awful – two small guys can play upfront Joe!

What with the Zog – Duff was poor surely he should have come on?

Why don’t NUFC learn, mouth shut, sign the lad then announce it!

His presence wouldn’t do any harm and I’d say we do need another striker as MO’s just as injury prone as MV – whether or not either or both are with us post January!

Dejagah isn’t even really a striker, he is a left winger really, he is good for 4-3-3 dutch style.

I agree we need a new left back.. I’m not so sure Enrique got what it takes. As for central midfielder, that’s a given.. Butt needs replacing. We need somebody who can actually play in that position.

As for strikers.. to be cynical. Xisco looks like 5.7 mill wasted, Ameobi isn’t a good striker despite his goals of late, I will be shocked if Owen doesn’t disappear in January. Viduka is a waste of space with all his injuries.. That leaves Martins, which i hope to god doesn’t want to leave as well come January

Viduka and Smith should be sold in January if possible

Hopefully we can agree a deal that keeps Owen at Newcastle, but if not, let’s cut our losses and try and get something for him. Unless one of the Big-4 come in for him, he will likely stay with Newcastle until the summer to maximize his negotiating power for his next contract.

Xisco has potential; let’s not knock him too early and give him a chance.

We need to buy following positions in January if we are to avoid relegation:

    RB (cover for Beye)
CD (first teamer to partner Collocini)
CM (we’ve still not replaced Emre)
CF (firtst team replacement when we sell Viduka/Smith/Owen)

    I’d go for:

    Obradovic – Partizan Belgrade – LB – £3mil
    Mehmet Topal – Galatasary – DM – £5mil
Pavel Pogrebnyak – Zenit – ST – £6mil (because coming to end of contract)

Aye.. Yesterday tipped things on their head a bit i think.. Cacapa just looks low on confidence but also quite old.. Like a poor old man getting picked on off younger kids.. Sad really.

I’ve been defending Duff, but i would’ve got Zog on yesterday, definitely not took Jonas off (although he was poor)..

Thought Ameobi did as well as can be expected.. Someone needs to tell Martins that he can be as greedy as he wants and still take a touch to put himself into a better position..

Xisco should leave in january; on a loan to a spanish club at least! His value will be rapidly deteriorating right now as he has shown nothing when he has played! Not been given a chance??? That might have something to do with the fact that when he has started (Hull, West Ham, blackburn) he was truly truly awful and we cant afford to be carrying players in the position we are in! It also raises the question on his performances in training! Surely if he has been sharp in training, banging them in left right and centre and showing a real desire to get in the team then JK would put him on the bench or even throw him on for the last few minutes of games???

Come on people lets be fare here; 6 million pounds? For that amount of money you would expect a lot more than he has shown. How much did pompey pay for Jermaine Defoe???? It wasnt a million miles away from 6 million if i am not correct.

What we need at newcastle is players who have played in the premier league and have done well. Its very rare that you pick up good foreign players who settle quickly into the pace of the PL (Jonas/Collicini have done well thus far but how many flops have we paid big money for; Boumsong, Luque, Viana, marcelino, Maric, Bassedas, Guivarch etc…i could go on & on)

We all believe Owen is on his way now unless there is a quick solution to the problems we have at the club right now. Let me know our thoughts on Kevin Doyle down at reading? Great first season in the PL. An indifferent year last time around and hes banging them in again now. Still young and if we could pick him up for 6-7 million then that wouldne be bad business at all if Xisco “the milky bar kid” is anything to go bye

Kevin- I know xisco hasnt played well in the 3-4 games that he has played but given a run of games he can be much better than ameobi. yes ameobi has scored 3 goals this season but he has played quite poorly in most parts of the games. Also you have to understand what kind of manager joe kinnear is. He is a very stubborn type of a manager who wants his old fashioned heavy battler, fouling, elbows to the face, striker to play every game no matter what. Xisco can be doing very well in training but still not being able to get a chance. He has to be given a chance this season and then evaluated. It is too early to evaluate him. Form is temporary Class is permanant. And i say he has class for one reason. When he was in spain he used to play subsitute and score a lot of goals. And our newcastle scouts must have seen something in him to pay 5.7 million pounds for a 22 year old. Also you dont get into the under 21 spain side for no reason.

£First we should need to know who will be the owner in January and then we can start to dream of whom we might go for.

And if Ashley is still in charge in January I cannot see anything else then our better players wanting to leave and nobody wanting to come to NUFC.

Xisco has not really had a descent opportunity, but let’s be fair he looks nothing special.

And for Ameobi, how many points would we have if he wasn’t in the team recently?

Xisco hasn’t been given a chance- maybe it’s because he ain’t impressive in training, mind you he’s a Wise signing and has hardly played yet! And WISE is after this German bloke now..would he be any better than Xisco??? – more wasted money or will he be soooo impresive in training that he has to be in the starting elleven!?? The fact that Wise is behind the transfer makes me worry.

    We certainly need defensive backup.
Beye our best defender is growing long in the tooth and needs a back up/protege.
Backups for taylor and Colo, not Cacapa please.
Dont think Enrique is going to ever be a quality
PL defender, give Bassong a shot, he has height, pace and can go forward , needs games.
Cut our losses by selling the following.
    Enrique=aint going to make it.
Viduka= 33 sick note, big wages.
Smith= do I have to explain.
    Cacapa= ditto.
Butt= slow, mistake prone, past it.
    Geremi= ditto
Owen= if he goes, losing a sick note with big wages, who does`nt give a s**t about NUFC.

I know its a lot of players but its time to start rebuilding this club and time to get rid of the deadwood.
Sure some of you could add to that group.

    OK I’ll try again.
Kevin ( and all that supports his view)
There are many reasons that young foreign players don’t succeed at Newcastle:
    1. they comes from another country/ culture (football culture) and needs time to settle and adjust.
    2. they are young men in the beginning of theire carreer.
    3. The expectations of the geordies are unlimited high. You place a big burden on theire young shoulders right from the beginning.
    4. they come to an underachieving club, wich already include loads of premiership experience.
    5. If they don’t work miracles in their first 2-3-4 games you turn on them, wanting them out.
CONFIDENCE IS KEY FOR ANY FOOTBALLER!!! And YOU don’t GIVE it, PERIOD!!
Put a SUPERSTAR in that team, and you would drain the confidence out of him in two weeks! It would be like watching ELVIS PRESLEY reborn, with theire shaky legs.
In fact, I would love to watch you at your job ( if you have 1) doing it with 53 000 angry madmen hanging over your head just waiting for a mistake, an opportunity to turn their anger at you and verbally abuse you.. Would be like watching Elvis Pressley reborn, I think!

XISCO is garbage, he doesnt deserve a chance!!
End of. I have been attending St James’ 20+ years and I reckon I am as good as any fan at spotting a player and spotting a person who thinks he is a player, i predicted Luque would not make it (look at my past posts) I predicted Boumsong wouldnt make it. These players are financially orientated, they have a point up to where they are decent players in their leagues, the leagues thay have been brought up in. Then they come over here and do not have the strength, the character or the Balls to play in our league!!! XISCO is prime!! Wise wanted him!!

Now look at Torres…….Stayed loyal to his club Athletico, could have moved on at a much younger age but wanted to stay, learn the game, become experienced, then have a go elsewhere!! Look at how well he has done….

I recall this board when we signed him, we had one or two ex pats who go to Depor games, and one or 2 Depor fans come on and say, he is nothing but ordinary, they too predicted he wasnt good enough for our league!!

JK has given everyone a chance since he came, XISCO included, and he looks poor!!

SPYRO?? Cacapa?? The best defender at the club??
    Taylor the worst??
But yet you urge us to give the young players a chance. Its people like you who live in london come on here and tell us whats good for our club, and then get it completely WRONG all of the time!!

Mmmmm now that sounds familiar, doesnt it!!

    @ Angryman:
Of course it is everybody else’s fault that Newcastle underachieve..!?

And of course there are many young foreign players that adapt quickly to the premiership, but we’re not even in the running for them. Because they would never consider us an option! Torres was a full international when he came.
What I mean is the best players end up in the top teams, and we can’t compete with them. I do not defend the buy of Xisco and the fee we paid for him, but I will NOT judge the player after being here so short amount of time!! That would be unfair on him, and drain his confidence!
As I said before: CONFIDENCE IS KEY FOR ANY FOTBALLER!!

On Luque and boumsong; they were NOT young talents brought in to develop, but established experienced players bought to strenghten the first team! Of course the expectations should be higher, and especially after the amount of money they cost us, but you cannot jugde a young player coming in now on prior misbuys and bad judgement from former board!

The Toon army can be the best ever to the team, but they can also be their own worst ENEMY!!

No, no.. I can assure you that I strangle myself slowly till I die at least once every game I watch, But that is because our so called experienced players are so unbelievable bad! They are our worst players right now, but they should carry the team on.. Instead we always end up with relying on the younger ones, but that again means inconsistancy. Right? By keeping the old lame slow moving, slow thinking slow anything, we never seem to progress.. And what is worse is that we keep adding them to the squad by picking up a free transfer here and a cheap one there. I’ve had enough of the Butts and the Cacapas and the Geremis and..+++
I would rather field a youg team that looses a game now and then, than an experienced team that plays consistently BAD!!

And I wonder why I keep writing on this wall when everybody else is on another?? 🙂
