Kinnear Admits Both Goals Newcastle Errors

Joe Kinnear was no doubt disappointed with the officiating yesterday, but our defense was poor to say the least, and Claudio Cacapa had a bit of a nightmare game at the back, for someone who is so experienced.

Claudio Cacapa – another poor display for the Magpies

Joe talked to the Newcastle Journal this morning about our defensive performance:

“There wasn’t any danger with the first goal,” “If Caçapa just ducks, it’ll go straight through to the goalkeeper. But he stoops to head it, heads it against Coloccini and it bounces straight to them and goes in the net.”“They haven’t done anything for either goal – they were both down to errors on our part. Taylor pulled out at the last minute, and there was a question of whether I should have played Beye there (at center-half).”

“If Taylor had been playing, he would have put that first ball out of the ground. It’s as simple as that. It’s down to decision making. Caçapa hasn’t played for a little while and maybe that told.”

“Bassong was carrying an injury. We had to bring him down with us, but we weren’t really sure  whether to get him involved. Everything seemed to conspire against us in the last two games as far as team selection is concerned.”

Kinnear could have played Basssong at center-back, where he’s performed solidly when played there, which is his favorite position. But it seems he had taken a knock, and wasn’t 100%, although he was still on the bench yesterday.

If Joe is still here in January, he may need to go after another center-back, although David Edgar was also available and has done the job in the past when asked, and as Joe says above, Beye could also have been played at center-back.

Oh well, just when we thought we may be going somewhere, one of the wheels came off.

Very strange if you hear that Taylor would have put the ball which lead to the first goal away. He is a player who constantly makes the wrong decision and who cannot clear a ball. His mistakes (which also lead to goals and defeat) seem to be very easily forgotten.
I don’t argue about the fact that Cacapa was useless today, but it doesn’t change the fact that Taylor is also useless.

It has to be so frustrated for Colo, Beye and Given to be partnered with 2 of the most clumsy defenders of the EPL:
    Taylor or Cacapa and Enrique.

his decision. wanted to back to the north west.

Cacapa is far worse than Taylor, Taylor is still learning, at least he knows what the back n white is all about and tries. Cacapa is 33, will not learn anything new but is just a sub standard french league import ala boumsong.

Starting Back 4 should have been Enrique, Bassong, Colo, Beye.

Every min Bassong has played he has been faultless and very composed on the ball. Never let the side down, Cacapa lets the side down every minute hes on the field.

To be fair to Taylor, he’s not a bad defender even if he is prone to the odd howler. In the situation that Cacapa found himself in yesterday I would have confidence that Taylor would have had the awareness to clear it. He’s still the best CB we’ve got after Coloccini, if those two can form a solid partnership then Taylor could become a very solid defender.

Faye and Colo would have been one, if not the best, CB pairing of all time for us.

No idea why we sold him….

Ageordiedoonsooth, WHY do you give obafan such a mouthful you muppet. The lad is entitled to his opinion right ! This is what a forum is for. The points he made are actually quite accurate. Which beggars the question why do you bother ? Your post never even brought up your own conclusion.

I also believe we lack a decent centreback partner for Colo. He needs someone who is experienced in this league and who will shout and communicate with everyone. That is what is lacking in this side. Taylor is the backup we need. We just need an experienced top quality player. Last night we could have moved into 10th place. Back this up with the fact we have Wigan at home next match. We should and would have won that game had it not been for that pathetic cacapa. We could have moved into top 8 within 2 games. Instead we are in the bottom 3. Duff is completely useless. He offers nothing. He cannot beat a man, he has no pace whatsoever. Nzogbia should be playing on the wing. Drop Butt and Duff and replace with Guthrie and Nzobia.

Enrique is an average defender who wants to move forward but who loses possession every time. To be fair he gave one fantastic cross for MO yesterday, but he should have done that more often.
Compare him with all the other LB’s in the EPL and he will be far down the 2nd half of that list. And to say that he is young, there are other LB’s who are also young, but who produce the goods.

Taylor is young, but I do not see any improvement at all in his play. Cacapa was bad yesterday and gave away 2 goals, but how much goals did Taylor give away recently?
I don’t say Cacapa is the better of the 2, but they both are useless at this moment.

And I think a blog is here to give your own opinion and if you have got another opinion then so be it. It is not a reason to call people idiots.
Oh and by the way I have already managed a youth team (U 16) for one year and they got their best result that year, ending 5th. The year after they wenht bottom of the table with the same team.

It happens. Unfortunately it happens to us more often than not.
Hopefully Joe can use this to emphasise that everyone in the team should do their Job right and the results will come.
If Cacapa hadn’t made those Mistakes then We would have won… easy as.
I thought the Midfield had a great game and Martins is showing he’s taking Joe’s “Be Greedy” instruction to heart, (he will get goals)
Barton and Butt I though played a great game but we were undone once again by the Defence, win as a team, lose as a team.
Still, if Bassong and taylor are fit then we will once again be back to winning games, we just have to put this one behind us.
Unlucky Lads, let’s put Wigan to the sword and be high on confidence for Scolari’s men.

Thanks m8 for your opinion. I don’t care what people say about me and a blog indeed is here to give your own opinion. I also had lots of comments on here which I did not agree at all, but I’ve never attacked someone for it. People who do that haven’t got respect for others opinions.

I share most of the points you mention, but I would not say that Duff is useless, yesterday he had an average game, but the last couple of games he played very well. THo’ I do not understand why Kinnear did not make more chances.

Our problems stem from the midfield- Butt is past it; never won a header in the second half, guaranteed to pass to someone on the other side, or into completely empty space, and you can see where his dhots end up. There will be no service from midfield so long as Butt is there, and there is almost certainly be a red/yellow card or a significant free kick or penalty given away. Kinnear must be made to realilse that Buitt is no favourite of the crowd and he must be dropped for Guthrie if we are to progress.

My main problem with Jose is the fact that he cost us 6.3 million pounds. Of course he is young and new to the league and mistakes are to be expected. However the fact of the matter is for that sort of price tag we should be getting alot more. Think of all the other LB’s we could have had for that money……

Have to agree. I usually like Obafan’s posts but you are being harsh on Taylor.
Cacapa was a limp handshake yesterday when Taylor would have been a half-Nelson. Centrebacks don’t usually mature until they are in their mid 20s so divvent hoy the lad out before he’s grown into it.
Cacapa on the other hand is 33 and ‘rustiness’ is no excuse. Free transfer.
However, I don’t see the same future for Enrique as Taylor. I reckon the lad just hasn’t got what it takes. Bassong for me.

I would rather we re-signed titus bramble…give him an eyepatch and tied his hands together behind his back; strapped him to the goalpost and just left him out there at craven cottage than play Cacapa! He must never ever play for newcastle united again! Completely inept performance from a man who is clearly past it! For those who harp on about the number of title he won at Lyon; Yes he was a fine player a number of years ago! But when he signed for us on a free transfer due to his contract expiring he was no longer a regular starter for lyon. Well done big Sam; nice peice of business there.

Totally pissed off about yday’s result…brought me back down to earth with a bump after the villa game

    Dear Ed,

The team performance was very disappointing yesterday. We did not start playing until the half hour mark. We seemed to be doing an ‘Allardyce’ – contain and then hit ’em near the end. Yes, two errors cost us but we allowed Fulham to dictate. I personally think we should play Guthrie with Barton and Butt for our away games and sacrifice Duff. That said we should have beaten Fulham as the second half showed.

Barton is playing the best football since he joined us. Oba remains infuriating as does Shola. Jonas is entitled to an off day, but Jose is not cutting the mustard.

With the present squad we will not be qualifying for Europe. We will continue to wallow in the lower half. Again, our next game becomes critical!

    Regards,

    Neil

Obviously Kinnear rates Cacapa above Edgar who is now 5th choice CB. I would have played Bassong fit or not and put Edgar on the bench and left Cacapa out. I have been happy the way we have been playing, we are now closing teams down well and Guiterrez and Barton have been tremendous in midfield, unlucky yesterday.

the reason the toon got beat simply because joe kinner has no clue about make changes in the team at the second half basically why the hell did he take of jonas and bring on owen cacapa should have been take of for bassong kinner said he was not fit well if thats the case why have him on the bench then duff should have come of for charlie who is miles better then duff as duff cant even take anyone on waste of space and last but not least shola of for owen then i think we would have won the game and not just that he simple waites far to long to make changes not good anough kinner not the man for the job even though we have been playing good football the last few games also i think butt should be dropped so when january come get raid of duff butt cacapa taylor and owen plus viduka as they are both injury pro simple as that.

You cant blame the defence – well you can as as soon I a heard that Cacapa was playing instead of taylor, I was like – oh you are kidding me!

He proved me right, Jose had some terrible passes, Barton at times seemed not to setp upto the plate and Owen, poor finish and should have done better.

Our midfield was terrible. Fulham intercepted loads of our passes and it showed that it lacked of anything worthy or praise.

Same team bar cacapa than Monday – you are kidding me. Did they get off the bus?

Chelsea will wipe us to 5-0 at the least when we play them. Wigan match first – a must win and its Monday and I am already sh*ting bricks.

The team as a whole need a kick up the ar$e and we deserve to be in the bottom three. Our away record is crap and we leak goals terribly.

Realism – we are crap and need it sorted out!

Reactionary garbage, most of this. We lost a game. Away. In London. By a penalty. Why is everyone so surprised and acting as if the wheels have come off??

We had a last-minute change to what was starting to be a solid back four, and it undid us because the replacement player had a poor game. That weakness in defence weakened our game right up the field and we weren’t good enough, so we got beat. End of.

It is not time to sack half the squad. It is not time to slag off players who’ve done well for us in awful conditions. It’s time to be annoyed because we lost – but that’s it.

And yes, we’ll lose badly to Chelski. Deal with it.

We’ll beat Wigan, we’ll keep gradually improving, with an inconsistent mixture of performances, and we’ll probably end up mid-table… which is what we were all saying was acceptable for this season, not to long ago.

guys taylor is the only defender in our team who likes to move forward and pass it on to mid field

cacapa was just passing it towards given

we need some one to link plays to our midfield
and though taylor isnt best defensively he is good for a defender who likes to go forward and start plays…..

and has improved a lot under colo….

so looking forward to see more of him in the future

selling faye is a big mistake

Cacapa got experience – “experience” in making mistakes all over haha

Taylor – 50/50 = potential flop and potential good. depend on how he learn from coloccini

Bassong- potential one, young and hunger. give him chance to play cb with coloccini. might be our dream centreback partnership.

Bassong+Collocini – one experience, another fast and young.
