We Have To Get Back On Horse Against Wigan

The Newcastle defeat yesterday was both a surprise and a disappointment for Newcastle United and their fans, and we could have gone up to 10th place with a win.

Shola Ameobi – disappointed  at Newcastle errors

Shola Ameobi spoke with the Shields Gazette this morning:

“We didn’t start too well, and we weren’t in the game for the first 25 minutes,” “But we picked it up, and second-half we took the game to them.”

“We were the only team in it and looking for the winner, but another mistake has cost us dearly, we’re disappointed about it.”

“We know we had them rattled when we equalized, and it’s another case of shooting ourselves in the foot.”

Ameobi says the plan at Craven Cottage was to attack Fulham and obviously go after all 3 points, but the lads started off poorly in the first half.

Shola continued:

“We’re attacking teams and taking it too them. Jonas and Damien Duff are giving us plenty of ammo.” “At half-time we were told by the manager to get at them a bit more, and that’s what we did. Mark Schwarzer made a fantastic save from Joey which would probably have snatched it.”

“The manager wants us to take it to teams. He wants us to step it up and make sure we give it what we’ve got.” “Individually, we have players who can take people on. There are players here that can deliver great balls into the box, and that was the case at times against Fulham.”

“It was just unfortunate we couldn’t keep it solid at the back.” “From keeping a clean sheet against Villa to giving two goals away is bitterly disappointing.” “We can’t make mistakes like that and expect to win games, especially away from home.”

“We have to make sure on Saturday against Wigan we get back on our horse and get the three points.”

We were surprised that Joe Kinnear was making excuses for the defeat, because if we are totally honest, we gave them both of their goals, and Shola’s goal was clearly offside, so when we don’t deliver let’s at least tell it like it is.

We fully expect to get 3 points at St. James’ Park against Wigan next Saturday, and hopefully a clean sheet, which will get this poor performance behind us.

Comments welcome.

Indeed we threw it away. What is concerning is that we need to be under the threat of defeat before we start to play football. The game yesterday evening started with attack after attack from Fulham and under such circumstance it is inevitable that someone is going to make a mistake at the back. Our midfield needs to be more in control to minimise the number of attacks on our defense. I do not think our defense is poor just our midfield are poor during initial exchanges. Had we played with the same tempo since going a goal behind, half the opportunities that fulham had would not have happened.

Game after game we start far too gingerly, that caution costs us because as we have seen time and time again, we go a goal behind, are the team not learning this?

I hope that defeat is not going to be the start of yet another rot, we seem to lose games in threes sometimes fours.

We couldn’t even keep the ball and when we did have it we just lumped it up the pitch!!! We’re not going to win many games like that.

really grateful to joe for playing owen even though he knows he is off in january. He should be match fit for when he joins spurs and firing on all cylinders. He will be good to see owen playing in a good team again who will create plenty of chances for him.

Fulham is a tricky place to go and win. newcastle are in there own little mini league with 5 other rubbish clubs. As long as they dont finish in the bottom 3 of that they will be alright. Its games against teams like stoke and west brom that the toon have to win.

What an idiot you are Fernando, Spurs are currently 16th on goal difference an you say the 5 worst clubs.

3 points separate 10th to 20th, it is silly.

tom tit- you wont go above us again this season. Even a kid like you must be able to see that you are a terrible team. Probably the worst i have seen this season. Pathetic in defense, awful in midfield and toothless up front. At least you have money to spend in jan to buy your way out of trouble?? Ooops.

You ‘dicked’ all over our team that cost a fraction of yours whle we had no manager and 8 definite starters out.

You really are a laugh fernando, you are simply a silly child who thinks he works for the papers, you are laughble.

    Please, die.

Do Spurs not have their own blog? What’s up with AO? Maybe that’s how he spends his time seeing he probably hasn’t got a gf or maybe even bf if that’s his thing. Get a life you spud and go stick to your own team’s blog.

Tom toon – your team cost a fraction of ours because we need a big squad to challenge in europe and for all the domestic trophies. One day in the distant future you might get to witness a winning team and understand the need for a large and expensive squad.

That is what you get for having mediocre players on high wages……cut his salary by 50 %,then he’ll run as if his life is depending on it.

Way too many dead wood and primadonas in our team not to mention some of them who are simply made of glass.

You can’t have a winning streak with players like those unless some miracle happens and score some lucky goals.

How the hell you expect Newcastle to progress when you have Viduka,Smith,Geremi etc with a combined wage of around 200 000 pounds per week. You can have at least 5 top young players for 40 000 per week who’d be willing to die on the pitch to prove themselves.

Fat Viduka i know its not his fault that he’s injured but how many times he gave an interview or show himself for the match….maybe he had,but i never saw him.
Barton was even going to watch the reserves, that shows how commited he is to the club.

    Out in January and Summer

    In….Ibisevic,Salihovic,Veloso,Martin Caceres(loan),Tosic,Inler.
