Shola Just One Short Of 50 Goals For Newcastle

With his well taken goal at Craven Cottage on Sunday, even though it looked offside, Shola Ameobi now has 49 goals for Newcastle, and is one ahead of Nobby Solano, and one short of a landmark 50 goals for his home town club.

Shola Ameobi – has 49 goals for his home town club

Shola’s goal on Sunday was his 3rd of the season and his career has been rehabilitated under Joe Kinnear, who has talked to him one on one, and instilled confidence into the 27 year old, and it shows.

Shola is now level with Kevin Keegan on the Newcastle scoring charts, although Kevin scored those goals in just 78 games during his playing time at the Tyneside club, from 1982-1984. Shola has appeared for Newcastle 245 times, with 145 starts, to amass his current 49 goals total.

One more goal and Shola will take his place in the top 40 goal-scorers in the club’s history.

Ameobi’s first appearance for the club was on 9th September, 2000 against Chelsea at St. James’ Park, and his first goal for the club came in January, 2001. The Nigerian-born 6’2” striker has quietly racked up the goals for Newcastle, and played 20 times for the England Under-21 side with 7 goals.

Shola – full name Foluwashola Ameobi – has been on Tyneside since he was just 9 years old when the family moved to Newcastle from their native Nigeria.

Saturday would be a perfect time to score for the local lad, at home to Wigan, where he will no doubt get a good ovation from the crowd, for his contribution to our club.

Go for it Shola.

245 games to get 49 goals!!! Hardly what you would call prolific is it!!!! Certainly not going to bother the leading scorers charts is he?

The man just doesnt have the cutting edge to be a first class premier league striker. He would probably be much better off playing one division lower.

    I Really HATE this player.
Only real value is Nuisance value, comes out to tell us “What he’s thinking” far to often – I for one Don’t care what he thinks, and wanders around like a clumsy oaf that doesn’t know what he’s doing. Hopefully he’s simply being put in the shop window for January.

Graeme, no it isn’t. But for 5 of those years he was Shearers shadow and also played 2 1/2 seasons with a hip injury before going under the knife.

He was never gonna be world class, but with those kind of obstacles infront of him, he hasn’t done as bad as some people might think.

Come on Shola, 50 & 51 on Saturday!

If he plays for another 30 seasons with the same goal ratio, he will break shearers record…

If you take away the sub appearances the ratio of starts to goals is not that bad – saying that, other than a recent improvement back to levels of about 4 years ago (which were only ever above average anyway) his time playing for the Toon has to go down as a bit of a disaster and he has been lucky to stay as long as he has!

yeah not bad … hmm..on 2nd thought, it could be bad for us relying on him to score goals if we gonna win more games than lose some. Neil Ranger must be put in his place soon.

With players like Taylor, Ameobi, Guthrie, Enrique, Bassong, Butt, Geremi, Cacapa……we wont ever make a dent in the top 6. This quality of player wouldnt even make the bench at the big clubs. We are going nowhere fast and as long as we are happy with these lot. They will keep us up though but 5 years down the line God help us if these are still here!
