Joe Kinnear has talked to the Evening Chronicle today about his Newcastle squad, and because it’s so small, injuries could be Newcastle’s Achilles heel this season.
Joe Kinnear – small squad means in juries could have big impact
Kinnear said today:
“We’ve got enough ammunition providing – and there is a proviso – that we stay with the squad we have got. If we pick up injuries, then we struggle. That’s our Achilles heel.”
“If two or three key players hit the wall, then we struggle to replace them, and that is something that should be addressed in the long-term as we come to the next window.”
“We have got people who are prepared to come in and give plenty of effort, but they haven’t got the same sort of ability as the ones who are going out.”
The Chronicle is reporting that Director of Football Dennis Wise is continuing to try to recruit top young players to the club, and Dennis was at the training ground again yesterday.
That’s actually good because presumably he is talking to Joe about players they could bring in during January, and they need to firm up those plans, in case the club is not sold by then.
As we mentioned earlier this morning Ashley and the Newcastle Board need to come up with a plan for January, in case the club is not sold by then.
Joe and Dennis could do that themselves, and assume there’s no money made available by Ashley, so they would need to wheel and deal, but that’s a lot better than doing nothing.
Comments very welcome.

Comment #41As for Kinnear’s comments, he’s right but it’s the same for all of the clubs outside the top 4 so it shouldn’t come as a shock, Carew is rumoured to be out of Villa’s game this weekend with injury and if that’s the case then Marlon Harewood will be his replacement.
Does this mean MON and the Villa board haven’t done their job properly?

…It’s always worse when it’s happenin’ to us…& i bet most other teams in this league would kill for a few of our players…Despite what some think!..

Comment #44I’ve seen one cross from milner since he joined villa that was worth talkin’ about & they didn’t score off of it…& £12m is a proposterous price for him, that’s a hell of a lot to live up to…That’s £1m more than a young cost, isn’t it?..
…They were robbed!..
…mon is tryin’ to introduce him slowly, that’s a bad sign for a £12m, english player with prem experience!..

Comment #46By the way anybody critising Spiderman is pure mad .. any one of the top teams would want him .. he is one of our main threats, top drawer..
who would you rather have in the premiership rather than him.. that would show you how good he is ..
Toon Army .. beat Wigan and things will look up .. we just need 2 more wins before christmas and we are out of relegation form so keep the faith .. we’ve still to play stoke etc.. and tank the spuds home and away again 🙂

Comment #47Punk Skunk .. agreed .. Milner is a good player .. in Spidermans league he is not .. 12 mill was a steal for us .. if only Fat Ash would put the money back into the club..

Comment #56In my mind, now it’s not the injury or the squad that bothers us. it’s Keith Harris who’s being Alan Oliver telling us useless stories without any proof. I have heard of Middle-East Concortium and now America… which one is true?
We are doing fine here now. What we need is Mike Ashley speaking up and we don’t need more stir from Keith Harris.

Comment #61Aston Villa are ready to pay whatever it takes to sign Newcastle striker Michael Owen in January. (The Sun) …… Joe’ll need more than four I’d guess.
As said in another thread, buying kids for the future’s great news, but Mr Wise et al seem to have been a bit too obsessed with that in the summer and now it’s coming home to roost!!

Comment #62There should be excess from the 12 million Milner sale (after the 6 million thrown at Xisco) to spend except Ashley seems to have pocketed it – along with the TV money and the season-ticket money.
But its plain Ashley was only in it for the short turn around and the quick buck. Looks like he’s going to be a club owner for rather longer than anticipated. Our January window is looking out across a barren landscape.
