Michael Owen talked to nufcTV yesterday, and praised former Manchester United and England midfielder Nicky Butt, who has played well for the side these last couple of seasons, and has taken a leadership role at the club.
Nicky Butt – a fantastic player
Michael talked to nufcTV yesterday, about his team mate and former England colleague Nicky Butt:
“During the last two seasons Nicky has been our most consistent player and one of our best players,” “He’s continued that this season and has again been outstanding.”
“I was joking with him the other day saying that, despite his age, he must cover some ground when you look at all the stats.”
“And really it’s not his role in many ways. He’s in there to stand and make sure you close people down and break things up, but he goes over and above the call of duty.”
“Everyone knows what you get when Nicky Butt plays and he’s a fantastic player.”
We think Nicky is a player’s player, who sometimes take a lot of criticism from fans which is unwarranted. But Nicky more often than not gets the job done, and we are looking forward to him creating an effective partnership with Joey Barton in central midfield, although 21 year-old Danny Guthrie will push both of them, as he continues to improve his game.
But we are also pleased to see Michael talking about the Newcastle players in his role as club captain, because what he’s been saying recently, suggests that if the mess can be sorted out at the club, he would be willing to prolong his stay on Tyneside.
Certainly with his wife Louise, who was his childhood sweetheart, Michael seems to have settled very well on Tyneside. Michael and Louise now have three children, daughter Gemma Rose aged 5, son James, aged 2, and daughter Emily May, who has just turned one last month.
We hope they will stay on Tyneside.

Comment #3DM must be a priority in Jan. Think i might cry if he’s still our first choice DM next season. What makes it worse is we are paying 50k a wek for him!

Comment #4Butt is a sodding liability. EMO is talking rubbish, he has not been outstanding this season in the slightest. We need a DM into replace the guy, he has no legs, no pace and isn’t able to put in the tackles he was once able to. He may give his all, but his all just is not good enough anymore.

Comment #5He has put in the odd performance but we need better.
Barton’s the better player and is still playing catch up in regards to match fitness.

Comment #6What are you talking about? Everyone was saying how great the Butt/Barton partnership was after the game against Villa. Some of you toss your toys out at the first sign of trouble.
Sometimes I thank God the mangement doesn’t ever listen to you.

Comment #11The sooner we play Butt less, the better. He is old and inconsistent, on top of giving dodgy fouls away in dodgy defensive areas. And a team in our state cannot afford that at all.
I have tremendous respect for him but I’d like to see Guthrie play more alongside Barton, the scouser connections could just work out, as long as they alternate on attacking and defending.

Comment #13Butt is our weak spot, replace him with a powerful, world class CM and we’d be winning a lot more games.
