Joe Kinnear has publicly apologized today to referee Martin Atkinson, whom he accused of Micky Mouse officiating, following our defeat against Fulham on Sunday afternoon. But Joe – we didn’t deserve to win. 🙁
Martin Atkinson – take that!
Joe has only recently served a two-match game touchline ban for calling a referee Coco The Clown, during his time at Nottingham Forest, which he served when he arrived at Newcastle 7 weeks ago.
Kinnear has said he will also make a personal apology to the West Yorkshire official over his post-match interviews, when he plans to call him today.
Joe said:
“I’m sorry if my post-match comments at Fulham caused any offence, and I’ll ring Martin Atkinson in person to tell him,” “When I spoke to the media on Sunday I was deeply frustrated about losing a game I felt we were in a strong position to win.”
“I said at the time I had no complaints about the foul by Fabricio Coloccini on Andy Johnson which brought Fulham their match-winning penalty.” “
But I have watched the build-up to that goal, and I felt we should have been awarded a free-kick seconds earlier for a foul by Andy Johnson on Cacapa.”
“However, having said this, I have accepted that some of my comments were inappropriate, and I will be calling Martin Atkinson to say that.”
Kinnear stayed in London after the Fulahm game, so he could scout our next opponents, Wigan Athletic, in their Carling Cup tie against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday evening. Arsenal fielded their youngsters, with not one first-teamer starting, and they won the game rather easily, 3-0.
Of course the Arsenal youngsters also knocked Newcastle out of the Carling Cup at The Emirates Stadium 2-0, in September of last year.
Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland is now a doubt for the game at Newcastle with a back problem. Chris has suffered often from recurring back problems during his career.
We have to get back to our winning ways against Wigan, and just like Sunday’s game at Fulham, this is a game we should be winning.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1A piece of humbe pie won’t do Joe any harm but he must learn to button his lip before he gets into deeper water.
Nothing wrong with showing commitment and his acts of late have certainly shown that Joe’s heart’s in the club – keep it up Joe but watch the mouth for goodness sake.

Comment #2Anyone keeping count of just how many apologies JFK has made since taking up the NUFC reigns?
There’s potential for an office sweepstake here, me thinks.

Comment #3Pace is what killed Wigan on Tuesday. Their defenders simply couldn’t handle the runs of Vela. Martins will need to utilize his pace well in that match. We also need to pay special attention to young Daniel De Ridder, who was nothing short of exceptional against Arsenal. The Dutchman was easily Wigans best player on the night and was unfortunate not to score after his amazing run near the end of the match.
All in all, our full backs will need to be on their best form in order to stop delivery to Heskey (if he plays), and also stop Valencia and De RIdder cutting in for the shot. Palacios will be handled between Butt and Barton so i dont think we need to worry about him too much.

Comment #5Also, by the time Saturday comes around, Wigan will have travelled to Stoke, Arsenal and Newcastle within 7 or 8 days. This, coupled with their shadow chasing midweek game should mean they are significantly less fit than we are. So at the very least i expect a hardworking, dominant performance from our guys.

Comment #8if we loose to wigan we are proper crap and thats a fact. they have had games in the week an we have had nowt. they got thumped by the arse under 15’s virtually. we will be at home too. this is sad that we are not even sure if we will beat a nackered wigan team at home!!!
getting back to this blog, joe should keep it shut esp when calling the ref ‘mickey mouse’. all joe has to do is look at our own management and owner, then he will know the true meaning of mickey mouse.

Comment #1251 Times don’t be bloody soft.
Cacapa should have the strength to not get shoved off the ball anyway, HE IS A CENTRE BACK.
It absolutely amazes me, because when you look at the amount of trophies he has won previously, and plus the fact he’s 32 and has been called up to represent Brazil, you instantly think he’s an experienced player.
Hmm well, he may be experienced, but does he play like it? Does he hell! Just like Nicky Butt at the start of the season, how do these players, at 30+ years old, make ridiculous mistakes?!

Comment #18wigan halftime , newcastle full time pays 25/1. Worth a fiver. I am backing a wigan 1-0 win with Zaki the goalscorer. I also like the look of 4/1 on newcastle being relegated. Its like buying money.

Comment #19michael Owen top goalscorer is 100/1 the same as tim cahill.
To win the league without the top 4 newcastle are 66/1. you can get better odds on boro at 22/1.

Comment #2951times- What does your name stand for? Is it how many pounds you have in the bank, how many times you tug one off in a day, How many months since you last kissed a girl, How many times you have been rejected by girls, or is it simply how many imaginary friends you have? I think it might simply be the highest number you can count to.
I am going home now so i will have to wait till tomorrow to see your witty response.

re the office sweepstake…. nice one tommo.
As far as AO’s concerned, don’t encourage the plonker by responding to his juvenile taunts.
S/he’s obviously got an a desperate need for attention and like a kid that’s acting itself, just ignore the posts and s/he’ll get sick of the lack of responses and disappear.

Comment #37I think Kinnear should be made to pay for a seat in the stands every time he is banned from the touchline. It might deter him from shooting his mouth off again and at the same time increase the match attendance by 1.

Comment #38I agree with Craig, the whole management group is mickey mouse and so is Kinnear. The sooner we get in some real management the better.
If they cannot beat Wigan its the drop for sure.
My bet for the 2 US investors interested in the club is from the following:
Sports Properties Acquisition Group
CVC Capital
Galatioto Sports Partners
Forstmann Little
Sports Acquisition Group have $240 million in cash and could borrrow more and Galatioto understand the Premier Division marketing strengths and its worldwide marketing potential. Its my bet it is these two that have expressed interest but not at 280 million pounds. Like all companies they will want a deal
Ashley has lost billions in his interest in Sports Direct and HBOS. If he sells Newcastle for 20% below his acquisition price he should consider it a bargain. I reckon the deal will be done at 200 million pounds and this should suit Ashley as he needs the cash
