There is news from a respected Icelandic football website that is reporting both Newcastle and Sunderland are keeping close tabs on 20 year-old Icelandic defensive midfielder Eggert Jonsson, who is a starter for Heart Of Midlothian in Scotland.
Eggert Jonsson – defensive midfielder or center-back
The news is that scouts from both clubs have attended quite a few of the Hearts games to watch the 6’2″ youngster in action.
In July 2005, Eggert signed for Hearts as a 16 year-old, and has been at the Edinburgh SPL club ever since, and signed a pro contract after he turned 18 years old a couple of years ago.
Jonsson made his debut for Hearts on the 20 September 2006, and has played for Iceland a couple of times, making his debut in November of last year, and is in the Iceland squad to play Malta next week.
He has appeared 47 times with two goals for Hearts, and before that played for Icelandic club Fjarðabyggð a total of 22 times with 5 goals.
The Icelandic site that has the news is said to be a well respected site by one of our readers, Agnar, who has passed on the news to us.
January must be getting close.
