HT: Newcastle 0 Wigan 1 – Magpies Woeful

In a disappointing first half for home fans, Newcastle United, for the second time in a week, haven’t turned up for their crucial match with Wigan and are 1-0 down at the interval.

There is lots to do if we are going to get anything out of this game.

It took Wigan, who are without star strikers Emile Heskey and Amr Zaki, just 3 minutes to go ahead in this game. Kapo was 25 yards away from goal and he placed the ball nicely into the path of Ryan Taylor, who beat Shay Given with a sliced shot into the net.

But we had expected the Newcastle players to be really ready for this game, but in the first 30 minutes it was all Wigan.

After just 15 minutes former Middlesbrough youngster Cattermole was more than a little bit reckless, with a tackle on Joey Barton, and after being treated Joey unfortunately couldn’t continue.

Danny Guthrie replaced Joey Barton in central midfield.

Just before the half time whistle Martins had a great opportunity to draw level on the edge of the area, and he had only goalkeeper Kirkland to beat, but the Nigerian hit the ball against Kirkland’s legs and the ball was again cleared.

But when the half time whistle blew, it has been less than an impressive first half display by the Newcastle players, and they need to get a rocket from manager Joe Kinnear.

Anything other than a win today, with Chelsea away next week, will be very worrisome indeed.

Why we keep starting games like this, and dig ourselves a hole, which we then have to dig ourselves out of, in the second half, we have absolutely no idea.

But if we cannot raise our game significantly in the second half then a defeat to Wigan, at home, would be little short of disastrous.   🙁

it’s an awfull display by newcastle! we’ve got no end product… we could have 300 shots and we’d be lucky to get a goal. Bambi needs to come off half time for owen and we need to win this game, if we don’t I honestly fear for the worst. It’s WIGAN FFS and we’re losing at home! could it get any worse? I doubt it.

have we kicked off again yet? keep in mind there was 5 or so minuets of injury time.
There needs to be changes made already, not after 50, 60, 70 minutes. i’ll be gutted if its the same 11 kicking off the second half.

however, that doesnt excuse the fact its still the same 11 out there. Surely, when something is going right you try and change your method to improve the outcome? its simple, we need to change it. I like kinnear but i’m losing faith in the mans tactics.
Apparently the red card was a shocking decision.

where is owen?, its just madness that when you’re 1-0 down and you have one of the best natural goalscorers in england on the bench, you dont bring him on as soon as you realise you’re not going to score with the players you have out there.
