Kinnear Sick At Losing More Points

Newcastle’s manager thought the late loss of two vital points to Wigan Athletic this afternoon was a sickener.

Joe Kinnear – sickened by Wigan late equlaizer

But the defense again let us down and conceded two goals to Wigan, even though the Lancashire side were without their star strikers Emile Heskey and Amr Zaki.

The Newcastle defense is simply not good enough, and we have conceded 4 goals in our last two games to Fulham and Wigan, and that is disappointing, to say the least.

Joe Kinnear talked after this afternoon’s game:

“We should have put the game to bed.”

Goals from Michael Owen and Oba Martins after 79 and 86 minutes had put Newcastle 2-1 ahead, after Emmerson Boyce had been sent off early in the second half, and Wigan had gone ahead after just 3 minutes of the game to a Taylor goal.   🙁

But then Newcastle, after getting their noses in front, amazingly allowed the 10 man Wigan side to snatch a point with an 89th-minute headed equalizer from Titus Bramble. Certainly we were unhappy with both the display and the result today.

Kinnear added:

“We probably didn’t need to give the corner away that led to the goal and to get beaten so late in the game with a set-play is a sickener.”  “The manner in which it was scored was a bit disappointing.”

“The first goal took the wind out of our sails.” “After that, we didn’t play high-tempo, didn’t create too much. The last 10-15 minutes of the first half was our best spell.”  “In the second half we went for broke with three strikers up and created numerous chances.”

Kinnear agreed that the dismissal of Boyce was harsh and added:

“Certainly there wasn’t any malice.”

While the point lifted Newcastle to 4th bottom, up one place, it is hardly what we wanted, and we should have taken all 3 points.

We just don’t think displays like this are good enough, especially when they are at home.

Kinnear added:

“How the league is at the moment, had we won today I think we would have been about tenth.”

“There are numerous teams down there with only a few points between them.”

5 points lost in our last two games is how we look at this.

Now we have to face two away games at Chelsea and Middlesbrough, who are both above us in the league.

We were rubbish today. Most players were below par but Ameobi particularly was a waste of space. Michael Owen was left on the bench for most of the game, I can only assume that Ashley puppet Kinnear is under instructions from the poison dwarf not to risk an Owen injury which would stop the dwarf selling Owen in January.
When Owen and Nzogbia came on with most of the game gone, they changed the game. Granted Owen missed a sitter while he was getting up to speed, but the next thing he did was score – made by Ameobi’s first shot of the game.
Kinnear left it too late to bring on Nzog and Owen – and even when he did, he made the mistake of taking off Jonas instead of Ameobi.
The fan who ran on and headed for the dugout – I’d love to know what he wanted to say….
Kinnear out! He’s not up to the job

ed- you should not lay the blame only on the defence . Today for long spells our midfield were poor , when the midfield gets outplayed then that puts more pressure on the defence and Ameobi & Martins got no service at all in the first half . Lets hope Bartons injury is not too serious or we are screwed against Chelsea .

I was at the game today and I agree we were terrible until the subs were made.

Charlie was a breath of fresh air.

Martins was awesome when moved on the left.

    Jonas should have stayed on.

Jose, whilst I generally support him was terrible today.

    Shola should have got subbed.

JK just doesn’t seem to ‘get it’ like we all do.

‘But the defense again let us down and conceded two goals to Wigan’

No Ed, one was a screamer that was nobodies fault, but if anyones it was Given’s.

The next goal was a set peice where Duff should have cleared it, Ameobi shouldn’t have been beaten in the air and various players defend corners.

could we be sounding the death knell on newcastle,s stay in the top flight.
these sort of performances do tend to send you down to the championship.
i know it is early ,but at this moment in time newcastle dont look capable of dooking it out at the bottom.
people may not agree with me,but i,m putting the blame for our recent decline on mike ashley.
i know we were struggling before he came in,but you have to ask the question other than clear debt what has he done for newcastle?
mike ashley has had over a year and a half to make some progress at the club, but we find ourselves even further into the mire.
ashley,s long term plan may of made sense in the scheme of things, but these so called talented youngsters platform will be the championship.
mike all you had to do was invest in the short term, but you chose to be obstinate and run our club like a second tier outfit.
mike you will now most likley get your chance your chance to budget for the championship.
WELL DONE MR ASHLEY YOU HAVE MORE OR LESS DONE US.

Depressing is an understatement, if we can`t beat the Wigans of this league at home, then we dont belong in this league.
It all began when Sir Bobby was fired, a gradual decline, instead of challenging in the top five we have been reduced to relegation candidates.
Most thought it an aberrration the fact we were finishing in the lower half of the table, the fact is thats where this team belongs and if it aint strengthened soon may be playing in the championship or whatever stupid name they got for the second division now.
    HELP !

IMO Given was partly to blame for their second goal as he simply doesn’t dominate the area enough. Given spends too much time on his line. This costs us as it is always going to be difficult when their is a set piece near the end of the game and you are winning. All the players come up for it and it is very hard to defend. Given should have gone through anyone and every0ne to punch that ball, after all, he knows better than anyone how unreliabe our defence is. However, majority of the blame has to go to Beye for his poor choice of giving away a corner (second time he has given away a corner and it has cost us). ALso, How the F*** does a big oa flike Ameobi lose headers? :S

i can,t understand why this club cannot progress to where i think it should be.
season after season we have to endure another drama or five,we have everything in place to take the club forward, but every year we are in the crap.
i just wish we could get a bunch of people together who fully recognize the potential of this football club and run it accordingly.
it is just so frustrating to see this famous old club continually dragged through the wringer.

chuck……………..was at the game today and it was crap for the whole game until we took off enrique, brought on zogs and owen, went three up front and just the three at the back. we started off with the 4-4-2 you prefer and we were crap mate, played square ball with no width at all. after the two subs were made we looked much better and rescued a point. my 3-4-3 was the correct one for today and if we had done it from the start we would have won. its pathetic to be thankful of 1 point against a 10 man wigan with shambles brambles at the heart of their defence. the only thing jk did wrong in terms of subs was taking of jonas- ffs. he should have taken off ameobi (proper crap player), pushed up duff with martins and played zogs in his place and owen in the hole. ameobi was just about good enough for sunday league. one thing is for certain – owen must start games. he is the one person that lifts the team to the next level.

Total sh*te .. new owners in Jan or we’re in the relegation battle all season ..
we need a new striker(hold the ball) ..
new manager (kinnear has shown his true colours and he isn’t good enough)
New CM playmaker is obvious, either that or play Owen in there, kinnear remember last season with keegan you chump.
New CB – it shows that Taylor isn’t that bad if we’ve been atrocious without him

sweendog, the defence wasn’t at fault for any goal today and Cacapa was at fault for Fulham. We dont need Taylor.

The play we need most is a new DM who can protect the back 4 properly, keep possession and actually pass.

Spyro .. disagree on this one .. so one of the biggest threats from a corner is being marker by our forward .. I do like bassong /collocini but you expect your centre back to be attacking a ball from a corner no matter whos marking..
I still think they weren’t too bad .. the manager gets the blame for me though .. why was owen on the bench and why not play an attacking formation ..

Most of you are fools as is Tom_toon (Mr I know every thing about football, erm actually you know bollocks mate!). Not so long ago most were shouting for Kinnear’s appointment to be made permanent, I said then he was merely a puppet on a string, how many of you criticised me for that? Wake up and smell the beans, Ashley, Wise and Co are not going anywhere, nor has there been any intention to leave, other then to highlight how fickle our fans really are! Well done boys, you’ve made fools of our club, at least Keegan had the balls to stand up for what he thought was right! Look at the stick people like Tom_toon give him.

What another fine mess .. agreed .. keegans tactical and motivational sense always shone through .. I’ve wanted to give kinnear a chance as he’s currently our only hope but he’s not good enough.. and he doesn’t have enough quality through the squad .. this is why keegan left and now its raising its head again .. I hope to f**k the announcement on 22 is that we’re sold to an american and keegan is brought back .. even shearer has to be a better bet than this and he has no experience.

Get real Keegan, left the club as a result of principle, and I for one agree with him. He was not going to remain at the club and watch it self destruct ‘Transfer listing a full squad on deadline day against the managers wishes – Hmmmm’ You may well be a yes man, nevertheless you will find those with dignity and morals would have done exactly the same as Keegan. I certainly hope Keegan doesn’t return we simply don’t deserve the man!

    Are you for real?

Anyone with an ounce of commonsense would accept what has happened to Keegan was truly unacceptable!

Spyro if you were the manager of the club and saw your authority to sanction the sale as well as purchase of players removed, yet alone be informed that you had no control over you squad, would you happily continue at the helm, be honest? Remember you can’t plan in advance, because you’ll never know what you will have, furthermore, if below par players are recruited and the club under achieves, who receives the flack? Exactly, the Manager not Ashley and Wise but you and Keegan, would put you reputation on the line just for money, I wouldn’t, and I’m please Keegan had the principle to do just that!
