Joe Kinnear and Newcastle United would like to secure the 28-year-old Michael Owen’s future on Tyneside, but with the club’s ownership in complete limbo, any move to give Michael a new contract right now, doesn’t seem possible.
Michael Owen – Newcastle unable to offer him contract right now
Joe Kinnear is becoming more exasperated with the situation each week and he told the Sunday Sun this morning:
“It’s very important to keep Michael Owen here,” “I’ve told him that, he’s aware of that. The bone of contention regards sitting down and talking about his future.”
“We have to sit down to talk to him about a new contract, if I have the power to do that.” “I can’t do everything, I am just in charge of the shop.”
“I would like to sit down and talk, but we might be sold next week and then things are different.”
Owen showed his worth yesterday for Newcastle, during the last 30 minutes of the game , when he scored one opportunist goal, had a great header just over the cross-bar, and then seemed to miss an absolute sitter – all in a short 30 minutes.
But Michael gets into those scoring positions, where he can sniff out goals, and most other players wouldn’t have taken up those positions at all. But we should still have taken all 3 points yesterday, and to concede a goal to 10 men when you had gone ahead on 87 minutes is just completely inexcusable. It’s so disppointing.
It seems now that if Mike Ashley fails to sell the club by January, he is at least willing to bolster the Newcastle squad during the transfer window, if only to protect his investement.

Comment #814 – 3 – 3. It worked very well for Keegan, in fact one of the few things he did get absolutely right. There is no reason JFK cant replace Viduka with Shola and play BOTH Martins and Owen at the same time. They each bring different qualities to the pitch.
Having said that, I thought we were dire on Saturday, with little appertite for a battle. If we cant beat Wigan and there like at SJP, we are in for a very difficult season. We will never put clear distance between us and the bottom 3 playing like that.
If it continues in the same vein, we will be in a relegation battle all season.

Comment #89I’ll try and sum up my thoughts on the situation at SJP.
I was at the match on Sat – despite being as ill as fudge and have to say it took my mind off my situ and opened my eyes to the real mess the club are in.
The bloody youth team is better than the 1st in as far as goals and results.
Saturday stunned alot of us where i sat. After the 1st goal went in we couldnt beleive how on the back foot the team were. Half time boos were justified.
It was euphoria when Owen and Oba scored but then what happened – Typical newcastle.
I love the toon with passion in my heart and am SICK of our team playing crap and inconsistant football. Why cant we win a game??
Thats the ultimate question and the nature of the beast that is football.
Dark times ahead and Sat against Chelsea – we will get fudged!

toon graeme- sorry to hear you are unwell but what were you thinking going to sjp as a pick me up.
That was a poor result at home against a poor wigan team considering you have chelsea next. At least you didnt lose. I never really thought newcastle could get relegated but its not looking good at the minute.

Dont be so negative mate, None of the top four are invincible at the minute. I watched Chelsea batter West Brom for 90 mins and only score 3 out of a potential 10. If Spurs can get a draw at the bridge after being battered for 90 mins then we can.

Comment #93Newcastle will not get relegated. It is another season of tripe but we will undoubtedly put a small run together around March and get to safety. Same old.

Comment #94spyro- I cant see where the next win is coming from at the moment though. A few new faces will need to be brought in january if you are to get out of this mess. Spurs werent batterred at the bridge by the way. Chelsea were poor that day and didnt deserve the win.

Comment #96Yes you were, you had one chance created by Lampard of all people and you took it. After you equalised you were a lot more resilient, but before you scored Chelsea had numerous chances that they just didn’t convert.

Comment #99AO…. i thought it was pretty funny, sorry you didnt, must be a bit dim 🙁
Also they say the truth hurts
Remind me again SON,is it Manure or the Spuds?? Which 1 do you feel like supporting today?? You are pathetic!!!
As for us filling the stadium(if we EVER got relegated) I would bet my life on us getting more in than the Spuds,if you got relegated SON!! Just imagine, all the little knife thugs switching to Chelski or The Arse,HAAHAHAHA classic!!
Going back to Barton being a thug…atleast he uses his fists & not knives like your part of the world, shows the true nature of the southerners!!
You will NEVER understand football like us Northerners do, YOU GIT!!
Like i said your mam is calling, something about ANOTHER yellow stain on your sheets Lad!! I told her you must of been dreaming about supporting a real football club

What do you think of Steve Bruce as manager? I would love it personally. He has good ties with Arsene and you know what that means eh 😀

Comment #104spyro- well good luck to you as i hate chelsea more than the gooners but i think you will struggle. chelsea are playing well at the moment.
Westoon- what are you on mate? You should try your hand at stand up comedy. Or dont. Quite frankly i was embarressed for you reading that tripe.Fact is, when you were last in division 1
you were averaging gates of 20 thousand.
As for all londeners using knives, its getting a bit old now. I thought geordies were famed for there sense of humour but you have dispelled that myth.

Steve Bruce would be a decent choice,he does have a connection to NUFC & Newcastle…BUT is he really & i mean REALLY the man for the job??? i Have my doubts,BUT who knows he might be just the answer

I’m technically an “armchair” supporter. Does the fact that I live 3500 miles away help to mitigate my lack of attendance at SJP?
