No D Day Tomorrow – What’s Going On?

We were all looking forward tomorrow to some statement from the club as to the status regarding the sale of the Newcastle United club.

But today we learn that will not now happen.

Mike Ashley – no update over the weekend on Newcastle sale

Joe Kinnear had talked often these last few weeks about his future at the club becoming clearer, after tomorrow’s match at Chelsea, but that – amazingly – will no longer be the case.

Joe talked to the Newcastle Journal today and obviously had been given some new news:

“I said it would be after the Chelsea game but the goalposts have moved since,” “Day one when I walked in they said the club would be sold before the Chelsea game. It’s month to month, so the last game of the month is Middlesbrough.”

“Then we start another month if it’s not sold. Who knows? They (the interested parties) have got to come up with the money, I suppose. I’m here until they sell it. Your guess is as good as mine.”

“It’s not easy but I can’t say I didn’t know about the situation when I took the job. It’s frustrating at times. It’s the same line: ‘We’ve got people buying it but we haven’t seen the cash’.”

So Joe is completely up in the air again, not to mention the Newcastle fans and players, who have been told almost nothing, about anything, since Derek Llambias took over from Chris Mort, last May.

The January transfer window is getting very close now, just 40 days away, so we’d be very surprised if we do have a new owner and a new permanent manager in by that time – even though that is obviously the preferred scenario.

But doesn’t somebody need to to say exactly what’s happening, some update, without impacting the delicate takeover talks that we hope are still ongoing?

It seems also, that the leak by Joe Kinnear this morning, that he has two top players lined up for January, may be a ploy to be used if Ashley is to announce he is not selling the club, at least until the summer.

But time is quickly running out and something needs to be said – soon.

What do you think?

Fact – if there are sale negotiations in progress, we shouldn’t really expect to receive updates should we? Such negotaitions are normally commercially confidential.

As far as I’m concerned, no news is good news in this particular case.

But I’ve got to agree that in general, communications from the powers that be are somewhat scarce.

They’ve got the PR skills of a cow-patt!

I am no financial expert, however I believe that once due dilligence has started neither party can comment on the process – hopefully no news is good news? Therefore little point in having a meeting with JFK if he is going to get bullett soon. Would not be surprised if one Mr Shearer in place before Stoke game ( fingers crossed)

Us and Spurs have a remarkable amount in common.

We both were apparently ruined by directors of football buying the players for the manager. However, in Spur’s case, a change of manager and the sacking of the director of football was all that was required. Now we have a decent interim manager and players with undoubtedly good potential and talent. One of our “scouting/football directors” has left, just like Spur’s was sacked.

B*llocks to it, let Ashley stay, he can obviously financially back the club, he just needs some better people around him and better communication. Spurs spent something like £60-70million this year and still made a profit! Ashley tried to imitate this but Keegan scuppered the plans by leaving. Next year if Ashley is still in charge with the changes i’ve mentioned, i’ve no doubt that he will financially back some great transfers (don’t forget Coloccini and Gutierrez this year).

As it’s my birthday today I can think of no greater present than to have the club sold by Sunday with Shearer as new manager with an experienced assistant by his side (dowie I’ve been hearing’ a lot btw). But we never get what we want do we lol.

You will find that Mr Shearer will not be on MOTD tomorrow as he will be at the Chelsea game with the new owners

If this was the case why would it not be discussed after the Chelsea game. If the ‘goal posts have move’ this means things have not progress as Ashley expected.

Hopefully it will all happen soon and we could all pull together to get Llambias a suitable leaving present to reflect his time at our club.

    I suggest getting this:

Ed – in answer to your question “whats going on?”
We are being strung along by the cockney mafia – thats what.
Classic stringing along tactics by the way, my compliments to them, they’ve obviously been on the right management courses.
“The club will be sold by the beginning of November” nope
The club will be sold by the middle of november” nope
“the club will be sold by the end of November”
The poison dwarf turns up at a reserve game

Kinnear the puppet says he hasnt got a meeting with Cashley after the Chelsea game….but don’t worry, he’s got 2 loan signings lined up for January

All of the above were/are carrots for the fans to latch onto and keep us hopeful/confused/had enough.

I don’t think the club will be sold.

It has been agreed for weeks that Shearer would be coming in as manager and that Carver would be the experienced coach alongside him.

All that had to be completed was due diligence and from this a price adjustment was put forward for Ashley to consider, a price has now been agreed and the new owner will be at the Chelsea game with Shearer and I would expect an official announcement to be made soon afterwards.

It is certain however that the Chelsea game will be Kinnears last and that Shearer will be in charge for the Boro game

So Pedro if all of this was happening why would Kinnear say the goal posts have moved. If what you say was true he’d be saying the EXACT opposite – after all what he says id fed to him by Ashley. Incidently I hope it is true – but I doubt it

TBH i’m not surprised that this so called d-day wont occur, i dont know why you’d set a deadline like that anyway-i think Kinnear said it as it was the end of his contract at that time. Ashley doesnt need to sell and its not a great time to buy a club if your financially struggling. You rarely set a deadline on buying/selling a house.

Ashley will NEVER come out and explain everything getting sick of ppl asking about it. Abramovich/Glazers/Learner dont so why would Ashley. Blah blah i know they have better communication, fact is we dont and thats not gonna change. I think by Dec 1st Ashley should take the club off the market re-arrange the communication structure give Wise a different title to appease the haters. Employ a Manager not coach and survive relegation. He should then be open to offers-amazing what ppl want when they cant have it. (if we believe all the rumours in the summer of who wanted us i.e. Anil Ambani/Abu Dhabi-they knew then as every financial power did the credit crunch was coming didnt put them off)

utd111 i dont even know here to begin wth you this whole cockney mafia is bull , we are still paying from the previous owners mistakes, mike ashley had the right intensions for this club, he has made mistakes but if wnt to blame anyone for our season blame keegan, denis wise has done a good job, yes we need more players in but i dont think it was from a lack of trying, my one big problem with the ashley era was he was tring to be the next arsenal instead of the first newcastle utd ( if you get what i mean ). The dof doesnt work either but if we let wise bring in young players for the acadmey it would work well who ever is the manager, mmy last point is to all fans , try forget whats going on off the pitch and back the lads in the toon shirt becasue that is what supports do

We aren’t getting sold anytime soon. We are in limbo, having an owner that doesn’t want us and won’t invest and who is greedy and wants too much money for NUFC. We won’t be sold before the close season. As for Shearer coming in …. it’s all bollocks. We will do well to stay up this year.

Joe rightly reckons Trappatoni has been disrespectful about touting Shay. But what must he feel about his treatment by FatAsh. ‘The goalposts have moved again’ a euphemism for ‘they’ve cancelled the meeting they promised without telling me a thing and now I look like a right fool having announced it to all and sundry.’
Surely, even a grateful interim manager like Joe deserves better and for that matter, so do the fans and the players.
I appreciate that with due diligence process not everything can be in the public domain, but its clear JFK hasn’t any clue either which is not good at all. You are right that it could look like he’s for the chop. But then it could be that absolutely nowt is happening and there’s no contingency plan for if it isn’t sold. Plus, there’s always the possibility a decent Championship side would come in and say, we want you now, Joe, and here’s a 3 year contract. If you wrer JFK wouldn’t you take a bird in thew bush?
Its no way to run a club, although we are all becoming accustomed to lies and broken promises from the current regime. Whether the club is sold in the meantime or not, JFK needs to have the authority to discuss contracts with current players and have some kind of budget for January reinforcements. If that is interrupted by a sudden sale, new management and new targets, so be it. Than pay Joe off until May. I think he has earned it and if the club is not sold, plans have to be in place.
A further shameful example of disrespect and poor management by the interim owner.

Do you not think this ‘after the chelsea game’ meeting that JK mentioned weeks ago was just him blowing hot air yet again, look at the ‘wait for the truth to come out’ statement he made on KK.

I have no idea what JK’s game is other than to cause confusion amongst the fans, it really is a case of wait and see, as fans we have to accept that in a way we created this situation and am sure that if we could roll the clock back we would probably have taken a different approach, and also think that KK would have reacted differently as well.
Just wish the whole mess was sorted out- one things for sure in my opinion JK’s not the man, OK a few decent results but nothing special – a draw with Wigan after they got thumped 4 days earlier by Arsenal Reserves does not count as an improvement in my book

    Keith
You’ll never get me to blame Sir Kevin. Wise has caused trouble wherever he has gone – and older NUFC fans have a history with him…..
Cashley might have got away with his system if the DOF had been someone Sir Kevin and the fans could respect – eg a Bobby Robson type figure. But there’s no way Sir Kevin could be expected to take orders from a football minnow like the dwarf. And the final straw for Kev came when he was lied to about what was coming if he agreed to sell Milner.
Yes I support the lads in the shirt – I’ll be in me seat at the Stoke match as ever……but whats being done to my club by this cockney lot disgusts me.

I have an explanationon this debacle- 2 weeks ago Kinnear was told by Ashley that after the Chelsea game they would meet and discuss what was going on? Since then due dilligene has started (which we are sure is true) which would mean tht neither party can discuss the situation at this time.

There is far too much stuff going around in the press regarding Shearer for there not to be at least something in it.

Kinnear might be gone by Boro game
