Viduka Looking Absolutely Superb In Training

The good news for Newcastle fans is that Mark Viduka is impressing Joe Kinnear in training. and the Australian may be back as early as next week, for the game at his former club, Middlesbrough.

Mark Viduka – very impressive in training

Kinnear talked to the Evening Chronicle today about Viduka:

“If I had just been appointed yesterday and had been watching Mark in training for the first time, I’d have been thinking about playing him this afternoon against Chelsea.”

“He’s got to give me the OK, but what I see with my eyes in training is absolutely superb.”

“He’s now been in the first-team squad for eight days, and he’s more than held his own. I think he’s about a week away.”

Kinnear though will not take any chances with Viduka, who has been injured most of the time he’s been at Newcastle, and has made just 21 starts in his 16 months at the club.

He has also made 7 substitute appearances also, but that is still a very low return of games for a player we are paying over £60K/week in wages.

Mark has so far scored 7 goals for Newcastle. and there’s little doubt that when he’s in the team he looks a good player. But Mark just doesn’t play enough games to justify his huge wages.

He’s bound to be looking good in training (and looking fit)… his contract is up soon.

Remember Middlesbrough, he scored 22 goals in his final season with 80-90% coming from January…

    What a coincidence…

Lets just hope this long spell out has sorted out his injury problems. When fit there’s no questioning his ability, just a shame he’s coming to the end of his Career rather than in his mid to late 20’s. Think he’ll be let go in Summer & i’d like to see a younger forward brought in. My number one choice would be Ashton, He’s class great in the air & on the deck & would play fantastic with either Oba or Owen, mind you i think Owen is off too so we’ll prob be looking to get a partner for Oba.
