Joe Kinnear is enjoying the accolades that his Newcastle team are receiving for their never-say-die performance against a very good Chelsea side on Saturday, who just couldn’t find a way to score against a completely committed Newcastle side, that Joe and his coaching staff had prepared so perfectly for the significant challenge at Stamford Bridge.
The Toon Army – Joe and players didn’t let them down
But the lads kept to their game-plan and got what in the end they fully deserved, in gaining a valuable point from the capital, against one of the best teams in Europe.
Joe said today:
“It was a team effort, and I’m delighted for the Geordie fans that traveled down,” “We didn’t let them down – we rolled our sleeves up and deserved to get something out of the game.”
“I think we’d been written off before the match, and Chelsea were 1/6 on. We had a game plan. We decided we’d drop off a bit more and let them have it at the back.”
“As long as they played it across and in front of us, we were always nice and comfortable. Then, of course, with the pace we’ve got, we could grab the opportunity if and when we made it.”
“When Spider-man (Jonas Gutierrez) went down the line and dribbled past one or two of them on that right hand side and pulled it back, I thought that was the one. I thought Oba (Martins) was going to stick it away, but it was great defending on their part.”
“There’s not many people going to come here and get the result we got, and this will boost confidence. Everybody’s on fire. It feels like a victory.”
Joe was right when he said the players didn’t let the traveling fans down, and the fans were in full voice at the end of the game, delighted by their team’s grit and courage.
And Joe will now experience the vibes in the City of Newcastle today, and all this week, that is the warmth, delight and utter passion that follows a great Newcastle performance, even though we didn’t win.
That’s what it’s like after a good performance and yes it’s almost the exact opposite – doom and gloom – after a pathetic performance – but that’s what passion is, both the good and the bad.
We must now be consistent and challenge for a win at Middlesbrough on Saturday, and really build on what was an unexpected but fabulous performance in London on Saturday.

Comment #48anyway, joe kinnear joke kinnear we are with him for the time being. On a point relevant to this story does anyone know why chelsea only give 1660 seats (approx) to away fans when all other clubs in the prem give about 3000. Seems even more stupid when you realise they hardly ever sell out !!!! Can anyone give me a reason ????

i may be wrong but the minimum you are allowed to allocate away fans is 3000
which unless i am wrong means that chelsea could be fined or we didnt sell out our allocation

Comment #57Beye, Ed doesn’t have that much control over the ads. Usually, the ad software looks that the content of the page and tries to serve up appropriate adverts… often with shocking and hilarious results.
I was on a thread on another board talking about vegan diets and all of the adverts were for steak. Too funny.
As for KK vs JK… it took KK 9 or 1o games last season to get a win (wasn’t it home to FFC?). Prior to that we had played Boro and Brummies (which was the pivotal game of the season IMO), Arse away (twice, league and FA cup), villa away, and I forget who else. JK has had some tough fixtures and has defo gotten better results. He came in at a very turbulent time too and was hardly greeted warmly. In fact, I seem to remember a lot of people laughing at the appointment. I don’t think anyone’s laughing now.

Comment #59Beye -Ross They complained it may incite crowd trouble and asked them to be removed. As they are all Rep of Ireland now. West Ham fans take the flags to all games(some stads don’t allow) The makkems used to support Rangers, can’t see how you can just change relgion in a blink of an eye. Check out Follow follow Rangers fan site. Its worth a look anyway its funny. Also most fans get behind the team! 😀

Comment #60cotton-that is absolutly hilarious. Keane is their manager and all of a sudden taking a union jack to the stad d’sh!te can be classed as sectarian?! absolutly unbeleivable. Half the unwashed probably wouldnt even understand the relevance, and to be honest i’m almost 100% confident WH fans couldnt care less about the catholic/protestant divide that is apparent in football..or, glasgow. haha.

Comment #61SPYRO- sorry for the late reply
Kazim Kazim is like Andy Cole was to Newcastle.
Evrybody loves him and would hate to see him go but for a big sum of money he would deffinately go.
If he came to newcastle i would be overjoyed as he isn’t going to a rival club. I wasn’t too disapointed when Emre went to fenerbahce because thats my club.
I would love Arda Turan to come more than Kazim because
1. We need a left winger
2. He’s turkish
3. He’ll be coming from a rival turkish club.
4. He’s an amazing player and only 22

KK forever the teams that took points from us are pretty good and the leauge does not lie! I think the victory over aston villa would go a long way in my opinion for JK. I do belive there are better coaches out there but NUFC is not the most attractive jobs at the mo. Considering the job C H was doing before JK I am glad he is here!
E.G Even if he is a bit of a yes man at the moment, remeber put yourself in that position, you are on a temp contract in a job you love, you have been given a chance by MA therefore it is only RESPECT that you do not buck the trend! I still think it is more to KK resignation than meets the eye therefore yet again I want MA to stay. Just improve on the PR,replace the chairman and back JK. He would know how to spend money
MAYBE U SHUD CHANGE UR NAME TO ASHLEYBLISS and AS FOR U TRIPP GO TAKE ANOTHER ONE BEFORE U STOP HALUCANTING KNB HEAD

Comment #71Nick cotton-the whole FTM thing is understandable, its just local rivalry and we use FTM towards them aswell. (they stole it from us like everything else..their updated badge, their phrases, the lot 😉 )..but to then go and try getting involved in sectarian issues that are played out most publically between two teams from a completly different country, its just ridiculous. Yet hilarious at the same time. like i said, they’re purely jumping on the bandwagon, half of them probably didnt understand, they just saw the union jack and decided to have a paddy. (no pun intended)

Comment #75here are a few reasons why we wont get any deceny players in the transfer window
a.) We have to sell first, and whos gonna pay good money for our fringe players??
b.) Joe kinnear couldnt attract the players the fans want.
c.) who would want to come to a club like us when the owner wants away.
d.) if we do get a new owner in february, whos to say these new players are what our next manager wants.
e.) what ambition does the club have if we put up our entire squad on deadline day? and if we dont have ambition then why would any good player who wants to win anything come here.
f.) Ashley will want some of the money to gamble in the casino, if we sell any players.
g.) ashley has spent around £2 million (net) since he came to the club, so why spend now??
GET ASHLEY OUT NOW, HE HAS WRECKED THE CLUB. HE HAS RUN THE CLUB LIKE A CIRCUS IN THE LAST 3 MONTH. HE WAS A DISGRACE IN THE LAST TRANSFER WINDOW ASWELL.
AS FOR EVERYONE SAYING WISE IS DOING A GOOD JOB, WHERE ARE WE IN THE LEAGUE TABLE????

Comment #77I wonder how much PSG would pay for N’Zogbia, considering the £ is weak compared to the Euro at the minute. That could raise quite a bit actually.
I think Kinnear will be a good wheeler and dealer like old ‘arry. Remember he had to buy and sell with Wimbledon. He is not like Souness or any of these mugs who pay top dollar for idiot players. Bassong only cost £1 or so and look how good a deal that has turned out to be. Most loans only include paying the players wages.
Put N’Zogbia on the market for £5 and watch some mugs pay it.
Kinnear will be an old fox in the transfer market. Mark my words 😉

Comment #80Ross- yeah I understand that ftm thing. Its just that the geordies would have been chucked out if they done wot makkems were doin. Smacks of duplicity to a neutral. Anyway why do they still wear wrangler jeans and Slade t-shirts?
