It seems that Michael Owen has given up trying to predict how many points Newcastle will get in their upcoming games.
Michael Owen – given up predicting number of points
Michael told the club’s official website, www.nufc.co.uk today:
“Listen, we sat in the dressing room thinking, ‘We have just won two back-to-back games and if we win on Saturday against Fulham, we will be top half, and then we have got Wigan at home – if we can get six points, we will be in the top six’.”
“Then it doesn’t work like that. We lost at Fulham and we only drew with Wigan and you think, ‘Oh no, now we have got Chelsea away and Spurs and Liverpool coming up’, and all of a sudden, it looks hard.”
“And then we go and get a draw at Chelsea, so gone are the days where we are looking at fixtures.” “It is obviously a big game and a winnable game for both teams. I suppose they will be thinking the same thing – they are on their home patch.”“But hopefully, we can go there and get the points.”
Owen has made just 12 appearances to date this season after suffering from mumps and a calf problem during the summer, but he still has six goals to his name, and is leading scorer with Oba Martins.
Michael continued:
“In general, when I have played, I have felt good.” “Unfortunately, a lot of my goals have come as consolation goals. I scored three, four, five goals on the spin in successive games, and most of them were consolation goals.”
“It is always nice to come on and score and it to be important in a 1-0 win, so let’s hope we can get a few of those important goals in the coming weeks.”
Owen was asked to hold back and mark John Mikel Obi at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in an excellent defensive display by the team, when nobody gave them any chance at all.
Michael seemed only too willing to play a part in a great team performance, and he continued:
“It was a great afternoon. Some afternoons, you really remember.” “It was going into the lion’s den, in a way, and we did really well.”
Let’s hope Michael can get back on the goal trail again on Saturday, and this time hopefully scoring when we actually win a game. We have no idea either what Michael is thinking about his career at the Newcastle club, because other clubs can start talking to him on January 1st, and he will become a free agent – available for no transfer fee – in the summer.
But first things first, and we definitely need all 3 points on Saturday to lift us out of the relegation zone.
Comments welcome.

Comment #44CB’s take time too, he could be a very good, loyal player for us.
And he’s U21’s Cap, and you know if we sell him, he’ll come good.

Comment #49I feel pretty positive about Owens attitude towards the club and the fans and feel many of those fans haven’t given him a fair crack.
He hasn’t had the best of luck, two serious injuries. Firstly a cruciate, which would have meant the end of his career a few years ago, and a broken foot. Yet he still has a goal every other game for NUFC. Michael doesn’t comment on speculation, because he has read it every other week during his career. Who can blame him. But there are still those who question his commitment to the club. His attitude and commitment cannot be questioned at all, and his presence on the pitch is essential this season.
Having said that, Ashley is a K**t and I feel he may well atempt to sell Owen in January for as little as £5m. Does he realise that Owens goals will be worth as much as £50m to the club if they keep us in this league.
If Michael does leave, let him leave in the summer, after we have cemented our safety. To let him leave in January would be criminal, and would very likely seal our fate. I do rate Martins, but he isn’t in the same class as Owen. Fact is, at the moment Michael Owen is too good for NUFC, but I do believe he wants to stay. Over to you Ashley!!!!!!!!!!

Comment #54K K forever. Which planet are you on! I was at Stamford Bridge on Saturday and like many people thought Bassong was magnificent, and our man of the match. He is the same age as Taylor, but has pace and presence. He is a bit of a bully, which is exactly what is required alongside Collocini. Believe me, after Saturdays showing Bassong will be one of the first names on JFK’s team sheet next week.

Comment #63I agree London Mag, Owen stays, we stay up. Let him go in on a free and move on. It’s common sense.
And you never know, if we end up having a good season and get something in place for next he may even want to stay on… ok i’m dreaming now.
Taylor does make mistakes and struggles reading the paly at times, but as i said he’s learning. Dumb to sell a 22 year old geordie CB.

Breathes Geordie. He gets too much stick i reckon, that’s all.
I will be annoyed if he or Zoggy go. Both young and good for the squad.

Comment #72Been thinking about this for a while, and weighing up Ash getting what he wants for the club balanced against him pissing the supporters off for turning against him and his cronies. The guy is a K unt, and it wouldn’t suprise me at all if he were to choose the latter of those two options and sell MO. Never mind, even though he’s a fat t.wat, he isn’t as big as the club, or the fanbase, and we will see his large rear end disappearing out of the door for good at some stage this season.
I’m still not sure about this debt payment, and saving the club from bankruptcy. Even Shepherd said it was a load of bollocks!!!!!!!

Comment #73I was just watching the manure game and it dawned on me – I realised what are single on-field problem is… not left back, not dicey centre-halves, not language problems, etc, etc.
14 games into the league… how many goals have been scored from open play by midfielders? 1 – Duff against Everton. 1 miserable goal…. nothing from Zog, Guti, Butt, Guthrie, Milner, Geremi and 1 pen from Barton….
compare that to the two GREAT CL toon midfields of recent years… under KK – Ginola/ Beardsley/ Lee/ Gillespie… all chipped in.
Under SBR – Nobby/ Speed/ Dyer/ Robert – all gave you 6 a season… NOW? Almost half way through and we have 1 goal from our midfielders….
Interesting when you think about it because our strikers have been reasonable – shola, martins, Owen all looking lively. If Barton and Duff had put their chances away in recent games we WOULD have beaten Wigan, Fulham… I knew there was something now I know what it is….
WE NEED A GOAL SCORER FROM MIDFIELD TO HELP THE STRIKERS!
We haven’t been leaking goals as badly as times in the past- Colo, Bassong, Taylor, Beye, Enrique… not a bad bunch – despite the idiots moaning about Enrique. We have choices a’ plenty up front… but we have dedicated non-scorers in Butt, Guthrie and Guti… Duff seems to have found his old energy but without the product.
We need to put Zog back in the starting side… for goals sake (he can score when he gets a run) and bring in a goal-getter….
Ok you gets the point.

Comment #75Our strikers have been great this year, and from what JK has been saying he’s pretty aware they have kept us going, and know’s the midfield is a problem.
An Elano type player is needed. Obviously. And Zoggy should start, maybe he will v Borough.
