Kinnear – We Want Ready Made Players In January

Joe Kinnear seems to be making no secret of his plans to sign John Arne Riise on loan from Roma in January, and he has admitted he only wants ready-made players in January, who can go straight into the first team.  Sounds good to us.

John Arne Riise – back in Roma first team

Joe would seem to be the manager in charge of the club in January, although his current rolling contract runs out at the end of December.

But Joe, in his usual all-out style, is getting ready to improve the Newcastle squad once the January transfer window opens. And the Newcastle journal is reporting today that up to three enquiries have already been made, including a call to the Roma club about Riise.

However, Riise has just forced his way back into the Roma side, so it still remains up in the air whether Kinnear can entice Riise to Newcastle.

Joe said today:

“John’s name came up specifically because he’s not been in their team and he’s a good player. We made contact with their club and asked ‘Is there any chance of a loan?’ and that’s as far as it’s got at the moment,”

“And what happened after I’d made the call? He’s back in the team and playing well, which changes things. When you make the call you’re always aware that things can change.”

“We’ve made one or two other enquiries. I don’t want to go into names because it alerts other people but we want ready-made players who can improve us.”

“Of course, it all depends on whether I’m still here in January but I like to think I’m a manager who is comfortable wheeling and dealing for players.”

Joe is a good wheeler and dealer in the transfer market, as he continually proved while he was at Wimbledon, and two players we have been linked with are Christopher Samba and Stephen Warnock from Blackburn Rovers.

But with Blackburn below Newcastle in the table,  it would be surprising for Blackburn to sell two of their best players, and especially to Newcastle, who at least for now are relegation candidates with Blackburn.

It would be surprising (but good!) if either of these two players ended up at Newcastle in January.

Comments welcome.

I’m not how great Riise will be, but i’m especially liking bringing players in on loan only if we can.

With the current climate at the club the last thing we need are expemsive signings that might well be unwanted when (if!?) the club is sold and a new manager with different ideas comes in.

surly had enough of this continuing circus haven’t we. who sys were not consistent?? just consistent at the wrong things i guess….

I’d be happy with Riise. Good attitude from what I know of him and a sweet left foot. Couple of rockets in the top corner would get us on our feet and smiling. Warnock is a great little player but Rovers fans I’ve spoken to aren’t exactly complimentary about Samba, if I recall correctly.

Lets make it clear the transfer fund is zero-if we sell for 5m we can buy for 5m but there is no new money-so cant see anything but loan signings. I have no problem with Riise-a good spot by Joe?

Whats your problem with riise Matt? He’s a quality player who did a great job at liverpool and has always played very well against Newcastle (I remember a rocket he put past us one xmas a few years back in a 2-0 defeat).

You surely cannot think he’s better than what we currently have at the club and he could also operate on the left side of midfield; so i think “please god not riise” is a little harsh and a pretty childish comment to make without anything to back it up.

He would be a great signing for the toon; on loan or permanent. He has the required premiership experience which is VITAL for us right now! Does anyone know how old he is?

Tom_Toon – I’m not saying I’d give him a character reference or a Christmas card. I like his attitude on the pitch. Hard-working, honest. He’s also mobile. What are the alternatives that we can get on loan?

Why do people keep banging on about the club getting sold or not?
There’s nothing more we can do!!!

How about we trust the managers judgement on players. Riise proved he was good enough at liverpool, hasn’t he got a champions league medal?? Any one willing to come and play for us at the min deserves a pat on the back and our full support. Good job the players dont read this blog the was some of you lot go on! Get a grip and get behind the team, we are in no position to say who we do and dont want!!!

rooks, not being negative just realistic another shortsighted move by ashley and it always has been.
a few people seem to be getting carried away by the chelsea and vlla results.
look at the f***ing points we have dropped,kk forever your right if we lose the next couple of games we,re f***ed.
look at all the clubs who have been relegated in football history, they get the odd good result against the big boys, and cannot beat their nearest rivals.
we fit the classic relegation material, and we dont have a squad that can give it the physical scrap scenario which occurs down there.
if we dont pick up within the next few weeks,we are sleepwalking towards disaster.

Warnock any day over Riise.. Riise is a has been, and you wont see much more from him.. Last season he made two own goals for Liverpool, and didnt score once. As far as i’m concerned, Riise would be a bigger threat to our own goal, then our opponents.

Samba and Warnock would be very good buys i reckon, but I doubt Blackburn would consider selling them.

No to Leighton Baines, then we have got a better prospect with Enrique (who IMO is not that great too, esp not going forward).

    Riise would be a fantastic player to get in January;
    – fantastic left foot
    – EPL experience
    – improving our team, cause he is better than our current LB

Riise mobile? He’s fat and slow (and ginger). If he was half decent Liverpool would have kept him as they are crying out for a left back. Defensively he’s poor, he’s too slow going forward and can’t beat a man. All he has is a rocket shot.
I agree with the Beat, Kinnear’s done well short term but he is not the man for the future and I’m not happy with him rebuilding the squad. I suppose loan deals make sense for a number of reasons, but please not Riise.

His early years at Liverpool were pretty good, but seems to have lost pace and that distance rocket like shot , has been way off target lately.
Plus the fact his reputation is not great and seems he is not interested in comming to St. James`s
Was impressed with Samba, big strong, good defender, would put some muscle in the defence.

And how the hell do you know that he is a horrible person Mr Know it all?
Unless it is publicly obvious that he is, who actually cares? As long as he isn’t getting into controversies, all we care about is how he performs on the pitch. You act like you know him personally.

I’d like Riise here, don’t care if he has been ‘crap’ for 3 seasons, you over exaggerate the word crap, he has brilliant attacking ability (which we need, as Enrique is fairly strong defensively but can not pass, run, cross, or shoot.) For 5 million or less Riise would be a good signing.

Rise is quality? Hornestly WTH, how many of you have seen he play especially in last year in Liverpool. Yet Rise WAS great I admit his ability, but those are sweet dreams and memories. We cannot live in the history, his days has gone. His form is not longer there also quaite a horrible attitude, he has been known of blaming his teamates for poor results and faults. Nothing personal, business is business, as he has been poor for at least two years, no point I believe he can get his form back. As long as we got some many youngster that can cover or even try on left back, why we need him. Signning Rise is a complete set back, we want to go youth, we want to improve. Getting Rise is just like Duff, Viduka, Smith, we signning some big 4 outcast and hope to bring their ex-best out, well if big 4 cannot do that I don’t think we are going to be able to do that. Time to wake up, I don’t believe in passion or personal feeling, I only believe in statistics and data. The statistical fact is player like him is quite likely to be fail in NUFC.
