Beye The Perfect Player For Newcastle United

2:36 pm, Friday, November 28th, 2008 by Ed Harrison · 22 Comments

Habib Beye is exactly the type of player Newcastle fans love to see playing for the club.

Habib Beye - the perfect player for Newcastle United

First of all he’s a good player, and then he likes the life at Newcastle and seems to have settled down well with his family, including his young daughter.

Then he is immediately inspired by the fanatical crowd support that is Newcastle United, and Habib has that never-say-die attitude that has already made him a firm crowd favorite on Tyneside, even though this is just his second season on Tyneside.

And it’s not surprising he already wants to extend his time at the Tyneside club.

Just about the perfect player for Newcastle and he now showing definite signs of recapturing his fine form from last season, which saw him be out own Player Of The Season. His performance last Saturday is London was first class.

Beye talked about tomorrow’s game to the Evening Chronicle today:

“It’s a big game for us.” “We lost the first derby against Sunderland and in this one we have to win it for the fans. We must do well.”

“Yes, it is a derby but in addition to that it’s also a big day because we need all three points so victory is on our minds.”

“We need points. It’s so close in the Premier League.” “You can see how easily you can move up if you start winning.”

“But by the same token you can easily be sucked into a relegation battle.” “That of, course, is not what anybody wants here and each game coming helps us get out of it.”

“When you look around everybody is taking points from each other.” “Fulham took a point at Anfield against Liverpool last week and we enjoyed getting a point at Chelsea.”

“We have shown the quality we have now.” “Now you can expect to see us in the top 10 again.” “We have been to Man U and Chelsea and none of them have beaten us.” “So we have to be more confident.”

Tomorrow gives Newcastle a chance to start to put a decent run of results together, starting last week at Chelsea. It would be fitting too, now that Joe Kinnear has the reigns until the end of the season, that we get all 3 points.

Who knows, with a good run maybe we could still do the unthinkable and qualify for Europe next season. After all we are just 5 points off Everton, who are in 7th place in the league.

You just never know what might happen at Newcastle, it’s unlikely yes, but certainly not impossible.  But we’ll need to start winning, starting tomorrow at The Riverside.

Comments welcome.

    Habib Beye.

The best right back I’ve ever seen in a toon shirt. Period.

Venison was a rock, I loved Steve Watson and even Warren Barton had his good days but Beye is a class apart.

Ageordiedoonsooth – no mate I’m 28 but I wasn’t old enough to appreciate David Craig or Nattrass :)

I wasn’t even born when they played for the toon. If they were that good I wish I’d seen them play!

well, best ever Prem right backs, Carragher would take some beating, we’d have him in ours any time, even now.

Beye is ace though, good forwards and getting back , can’t ask for more

NOTW last Sun said that Beye was prob the best RB in the Prem after Boswinga. Bout time he got recognition outside of SJP.

    C’mon the Toon

No doubt, the guy can do it all, similar to players like Dennis Erwin, Carvalho etc. who make it look easy without attempting to make the spectacular play.
They dont have to due to a great sense of position and being able to read the game.
Certainly was a great buy, wish we had got him earlier in his career.

And oh! good to see Joe on the masthead, seeing he`s going to be around for the rest of the year.
Would be an opportunity for Shearer to learn about man management and tactics if he is interested in eventually managing.
After all when a guy like Wenger is impressed by his tactical observations, enough to offer a scouting role, then it`s obvious the guy knows his stuff.
And face it he has got these guys giving maximum effort.
    Whata guy !

Frank Clark and David Craig were the fullbacks when I started watching Newcastle. I don’t think we’ve had a better pair since and in the modern game, where their role is so important, I don’t think NUFC have ever given sufficient importance to first choice and back-up fullbacks. They seem regarded as superfluous decoration compared to other positions. That’s nonsense, or course.

When we compare Beye to the previous right back (i wont mention his name cos it may upset some of us), we have to take our caps off for the way beye has adapted to the premiership and the spirit he has brought to the team.

He is certainly an excellent signing.
