It seems like Jonas Gutiérrez is looking forward to the derby game at Middlesbrough tomorrow.
Jonas Gutierrez – looking forward to derby game tomorrow
Jonas told the Newcastle Journal this morning:
“I am looking forward to playing in a derby game. I was a substitute in the match against Sunderland, but hopefully I will be involved in this game from the start,”
“I obviously don’t come from England, but I have been here long enough to know about the importance of local rivalry in the North East.”
“The supporters were very disappointed that we didn’t beat Sunderland, but hopefully we can make it up to them a little bit by winning against Middlesbrough.”
Julio Arca is another Argentine who now plays for Middlesbrough and used to play for Sunderland, and he’s a good player.
It turns out that Jonas knows Julia as he continued:
“I know Julio, although I haven’t talked to him for a few weeks now. He is a player I know fairly well because of his time in Argentina, and he’s someone that I’ve kept a little bit of an eye on since I’ve been in England,”
“I know he was injured at the start of the season, but he is back to full fitness now and his passing ability means he could be a threat.”
“He has been linked with the Argentina international team over here, but that isn’t really something that has been happening back in Argentina. It is very difficult to play in the national team for Argentina, especially if you are a midfielder.”
“There are a lot of very high-quality players in the squad and Julio will have to work very, very hard if he wants to break into that team.” “He will have to prove he is better than one of the squad players that are already there, and that is going to be very difficult for him to do.”
As Kevin Keegan so rightly said it – poor players don’t play for Argentina.
Of course Sunderland is the derby for Newcastle, since Middlesbrough are much further away (south) and it’s less of a derby than with fierce local rivals Sunderland.
But we need the lads to attack tomorrow, play well and hopefully get all 3 points. If the lads can do that it will give the team the confidence they need to start moving up the table.
But we must continue the great form we showed last Saturday, and not have any letdowns for the faithful fans.
Comments welcome.

Comment #12Gutted that this match isn’t on TV – I’m stuck down here in Devon and tickets are long gone anyway. Should be a belter, and hopefully the London gits who decide the order of things will give it more than the usual 3 minutes for any match not involving the top 4.
We’ve seen cracking attacking games, and at last a fantastic defensive display. Now we just need both together. I think we should win it by 2 goals, but ‘borough can be pretty good on their day.

Comment #14He works so hard on the defensive side his performance never last 90mins. Hopefully one day he can be able to work less hard on the defensive aspect when we signed an energetic defensive mid. We need to play him like Ribery.
