Dennis Wise Reported To Be Leaving Newcastle

The Mail on Sunday is reporting that Dennis Wise’s position as Director of Football at Newcastle may soon be something of the past.

Dennis Wise – leaving Newcastle?

Bob Cass is reporting that Dennis Wise is likely to be leaving in the near future. Bob used to report on Newcastle way back for the local Newcastle papers, and he’s usually fairly accurate in his reporting, and certainly a well respected journalist.

Joe Kinnear has made it clear that he is in charge of all players coming and going in Jnauary, and if that was ever true for Dennis Wise, it’s not now, and it reduces his role presumably to a chief scout and one who does the transfer comings and goings, but has no say in them.

That’s the way it can work but whether Dennis will like that is another question.

Tony Jimenez has already moved on and the only two “bad guys” left on the books are Dennis and the completely inept Managing Director Derek Llambias.

If Mike Ashley wants to settle the club down before the summer, he could fire Dennis, and then get a new man in to replace Derek Llambias, who has no idea at all how to run a football club. He’s proved that so very well since he was installed in May.

The only thing we’d be disappointed at, is that Dennis has brought some good players into the club, and his position needs to be maintained, but the manager must always have the final say on all player issues. But Dennis is not trusted by Newcastle fans – at all.

It would be great if Chis Mort could return as Chairman, but we think there’s little chance of that happening, since he is a thriving and sought after lawyer. Chris did an excellent job for Newcastle, on refection.

But he put a very good and professional face on the Tyneside club, while he was here.

Comments welcome.

I wonder if Wise is this master scout or was it Vetere’s hard work and Wise took the credit?

So it could well be that the most inept of ‘The Cockney Mafia’ will stay the longest despite being the main person who could, and should, have prevented the fireworks this season.

He’s the managerial version of Steven Carr, Celestine Babayaro, etc.

Dont think Wise should leave…he has done a goob job with the signings and the way the article is written it sounds like he did all the work in the summer and KK did nothing (not to blame KK – he prob couldnt do anything).

Question is: why the change of heart Ashley? now you’re turning everything around? under JK?

its a little late now. wise needs to stay because he is a good scout but obviously JK has come out and said he wants to do all the dealing and whatnot – unfortunately for me JK is an ‘average joe’ and nothing more.

its obvious now what happened in the summer and why KK left – just sad seeing this season ruined.

all we ever wanted was a owner that would support a manager with a certain amount of cash and a team that played football the way we wanted it to. so after all this time do we get rid of that little cross eyed tw*t now when all that had to be done was to of done this in the beginning when it all started and we would have all the sh*t that has gone on and for MA to admit he got it wrong and to start again in the end there will be no winners just are team top stories in the national trash all for the wrong reasons again so come on get it wright this time and give us a owner and manager but most of all a team that playes the way we want.

of course he will probably leave, we are trying to sell the club which he will have no future at after that!
every single player that he has brought in has been a good one and of a better quality than last seasons, but still, hated!! I bet if we brought in a few mint players in Jan people will be wanting him to stay…fickle fickle fickle!

Hated Wise as a player but nothing against him now, he was employed to do a job which he has done to the word of contract. However, always knew it was short term and not long.
This Cockney Mafia crap is now embarrassing and makes us all look like neanderthals, so it’s time to drop it as it’s mostly upheld by spastics and people who don’t have a clue, i.e. those who couldn’t find their own arse with a map and two hands. Those who “Boycoutted” (thick bastards) have done more damage to the image of this club than the people who were running it, a complete and utter disaster from the fools who organised it. Those are accuse NUFC fans of small time mentality have a good point.

So, JK got the backing of the chairman with regards to signings, something KK didnt get, and now the unwise one is set to leave, anither thing that KK didnt get. Does anyone else think that things are not as they seem and that the KK/MA rose garden didnt smell as sweet as was made out?

I dont really care if he stays or not, it has been drawn out too much that I am past caring. What I do want is investment in the playing staff, something that isnt looking too clever if you read the Express, they say no money available.

    The soap opera continues

Gallowgate83 – don’t claim the moral high ground and describe people as Neandethals if you are them going on to describe people as “spastics” – a term the use of which clearly places you in the neanderthal category you apparently profess to eschew.

Wise has been instrumental in bringing in many good players so I personally hope he stays. He should not have the final say as to who we buy as that must be the managers job.

Just hope MA sorts out this mess and implements a proper structure; i.e. division of responsibilities agreed.

Managing Director Derek Llambias is worthless, so not going to waste time writing about this guy!

Clean up your blog, Gallowgate 83. And talking of ‘Thick bastards’, do you mean ‘boycotted’ or Boy Scouting’?

As far as Wise goes, I never liked him either but he’s done a decent job for whatever part he played in recruiting Colo, Jonas, Guthrie and Bassong plus we have high hopes some of the youngsters will graduate to the first team. He has also had the guts to turn up to reserve and first team games post-Keegan. As chief scout he would be welcome to stay on. But don’t vilify Wise and at the same time urge the fans to cosy up to Ashley. The stories about FatAsh’s kids attending games, Joe Kinnear’s quotes about Mike hoping to return to his beloved terraces again and an apparent change of heart belatedly giving JFK full control over transfers cut little ice.

Ashley is solely to blame for the transfer chaos, the public lies that led to Keegan leaving. He appointed Llambias. He has failed to deliver the funds promised and he has treated the fans shabbily throughout. Whether Keegan comes back or not – I’m not hung up on this and very much doubt it will happen anyway – or not, the debacle and deceit which triggered his departure is entirely down to Ashley. If it was a case of misunderstandings, he had 3 days to sort them out and didn’t do it. Putting Wise and Llambias ahead of the manager, despite the public denials, was his decision.

Eds says, ‘the only two “bad guys” left on the books are Dennis and the completely inept Managing Director Derek Llambias.’ If only that were the case. For my money, Wise can stay. Its Ashley and Llambias need to move on asap. If we fall for making Wise into a scapegoat, we are bigger mugs than we have been portrayed on Sky TV.

Why are people saying oh its too late now?
Granted it probably is, but we’ve always heard there was more to the keegan saga than was reported, so maybe he didn’t want to sack them all then as people would say now you’ve done that you can bring keegan back and maybe he realised he didn’t want keegan.
Also do you want him gone or not, because its mostly been said that people want him gone, now that reports are saying he will your annoyed?
I think if he does go though, we need to start getting some sort of backroom stafff in because were starting to run short off as well as on the pitch.

    “Get the cockney out!”…morons.

Why would i t make sense for Wise to leave and MA to stay? MA tells Wise what to do for gods sake! Wise has done well since arriving and i do not want to see him leave really. I would rather Wise stayed out of the two.

Remember, JFK is only repeating exactly what Keegan was told. He, too, thought he had control over transfers. Joe won’t know until January. Even then, when he gives list of targets to Denise and says ‘fetch!’ Wise (and Ashley) will be the only ones privy to the negotiations where the real decisions of ‘how much do we want this player?’ are made. At the end of the window, unless he gets all he asked for, Joe will not know how hard they tried.
There are conflicting stories about how much cash, if any, Ashley will invest. And crucially, how much say Joe will have over who leaves and who doesn’t. Will there be another ‘James Milner’ sacrificed to provide funding for two or three journeymen to come in? Ashley should take note – we are running low on family silver.

sav good point I don’t want wise the scapegoat for all our problem, I think he has done a fantastic job. None of us know the situation behind the scense but I ONLY want a change in chairman. I think fans put too much onus on the owner. Just because you own a business does not mean you get involved in the day to day decisions.
Think about it bloggers. You own a business, you hire your chairman, who has the last say on the manager’s future. The owner or the chairman?

Spyro – for one of the fans who tend to look at things with an open mind I’m quite surprised by that…

How do we know who makes the decisions at the club? With such appalling PR we barely even know who’s at the club never mind their roles! We can look at the ‘facts’ but even then it’s a little blurred…

    – Mort said Ashley was simply the owner and didn’t make day to day decisions

    – Ashley said he was going to have a more hands on approach this season

    – Ashley employed more ‘top end’ staff, replacing Mort with Llambias, bringing in Wise and Jiminez.

…I haven’t got a clue what’s going on? We know Ashley wasn’t in the country when Keegan stormed out, and we know Keegan was meeting Llambias when Ashley was away…

Until we know (if ever) the full details of the whole saga, it’s difficult to build your own opinion on the matter. What I DO know, is that Wise, OR Vetere (good shout whoever pointed that out) has done some fantastic dealings for our club!

ASHLEY HAS KEPT CONTACT WITH JK AND CONGRATULATED HIM ON GAMES WHICH SHOWS HE DOES CARE

ASHLEY MAY NOT SPEAK DIRECTLY TO US… BUT NEITHER DO MAN U OWNERS.

ASHLEY WANTS TO CARRY ON FOLLOWING THE TEAM HE OWNS, BUT YOU LOT JUST WONT LET HIM CAUSE OF THREATS

What has Wise done? If I rememeber rightly, the article that was written said that the only signings Wise was dealing with is the kids, the youth team. Some of the players mentioned are from youth team players. By all accounts players like Ranger etc sound good, never seen him myself so I cant pass comment, but lets remember what his job is. Why say he has done good work with our signings?

It’s a big IF I know!, but if Ashley:
    1. Gets rid of WISE.
    2. Keeps all the current players,( including OWEN)
    3. Gives KINNEAR the money to buy three or four players in January’
Then perhaps he will be forgiven about KEEGAN.

As time has gone on and with Joe Kinnear geting the best out of the team, he will not have to sell.

Mind having fixed the teams defence, priority now is to create chances, score a few goals and win some matches, starting next Saturday against STOKE. (Ihope!)

We don’t actually KNOW what Wise did, but as he is in charge of player recruitment (both Keegan and Kinnear said it) then that would imply he was dealing with all aspects

The fact that Keegan said in an interview that he didn’t have a clue who Jonas Gutierrez was and had to watch a video of him on youtube again implies that Wise takes responsibility for his signing!

Wise has done good things for the club. It’s not his fault Ashley gave him powers over Keegan.

Maybe be Ash is finally learning from his mistakes to properly run a club and is finally backing his manager. Personally hope Wise is satisfied to stay as chief scout and the guy who formalizes transfers- as long as the manager makes the final decisions

weather wise stays or goes does not really bother me at this point . Yes some good signings have been made while he has been at the club , but was he behind all the signings ? Gutherie and Bassong i think were his signings but all the lads that came from Spain were probably Jimenez signings . What is now important is getting the club moving forward and giving Kinnear the job for the rest of the season is the first step . Now some signings in January of the quality of Bassong , Colo, Jonas and Guthrie and we will be moving in the right direction on the pitch and finally getting rid of the silent man and replacing him with someone that has an understanding of how to run a football club .if this happens then all will come good .

Another thought on this…now I don’t like to talk about the Spuds too much but look what happened when they sacked their Director of Football and left the manager to get on with things…

…all of a sudden they have good players, playing good football and shoot out of the relegation zone.

I think the players at our club hate Wise. Remember that it was him and Lambias told Owen and Shay’s agents that anyone at the club was for sale. The players confidence will grow if Wise goes, as the manager’s clout will increase too. That’s good news, even if it is only a token gesture by Ashley.

Wise was hired to do a job. He has done a decent job. He found Jonas for almost nothing, Bassong for nothing who keegans said was not ready for the first team and Collo. In one respect he has solved the oldest problem of al at NUCF two good centre backs. Okay he did not get us an attacking midfielder and another LB but he is only human. I hope he stays.

Modern research shows now that Neanderthals were intelligent and skilfull people. Certainly not ape-men. Please do not insult a previous but extinct population of Britain by comparing Dennis Wise to them! Those with ‘spasticity’ cannot help their neurological condition, but Denis Wise must be held responsible for the awful way he has performed at NUFC and against the honour of the club. Get rid of him asap.
