Kinnear Only Wants Proven Players In January

Joe Kinnear has told The Sunday Sun that Newcastle are targeting top players who can move straight into the first team during the January transfer window, and will be better than players we already have at the club.

Joe Kinnear with club captain Michael Owen

The emphasis from Newcastle, started by then Chairman Chris Mort, was to bring on board young talent who would gain in value, and imitated the Arsenal approach that has been so successful for over 10 years.

The news this morning is that Joe has asked Director of Football Dennis Wise and the rest of the club’s player recruitment team to target only seasoned performers this January, who can go straight into the first team.

That makes a lot of sense for the first team, but it still doesn’t stop us from bringing in some young players for the Youth and Reserve teams if they are available. One such player we profiled this morning was 16 year-old midfielder Jonjo Shelvey of Charlton Athletic, and if we can get him, let’s bring him on board – for the future.

That’s what we need to keep doing, while of course bringing in ready made first teamers also.

Joe Kinnear told the Sunday Sun today:

“The players we are looking at now have got to be proven — we don’t want to chance our arm with ‘maybes’.”

“They are all playing in their sides in Holland. I believe that whoever I have identified will be better than what we have got.”

Newcastle seem to be targeting Holland’s Eredivisie, where they have been linked before with Dutch left-backs Urby Emanuelson (Ajax) and Tim De Cler (Feyenoord).

Dirk Marcellis of PSV

It also seems that Dennis Wise and his scouting team are big admirers of PSV Eindhoven’s Dirk Marcellis, who can play right across the back four. A player with that defensive flexibility would be a great addition to the squad, as long as he’s good enough.

The 20 year old six footer has already played for PSV 43 times and is already a Dutch International.

We’d like to see the squad strengthened in both quality and quantity in January, and it’s a good time for owner Mike Ashley to support Joe with some transfer funds.

Joe has already said he wants to unload some players he doesn’t think are good enough for the club, and we think one of them has to be Cameroon’s Geremi and perhaps 22 year-old new arrival Xisco, both of whom never seem to be part of Kinnear’s plans.

Comments welcome.

Where’s the money coming from? Cant help but think this is another NUFC smoke screen. I really fear we are heading towards a huge disaster this January and tears at Villa.

i’ll take anyone just get us into europe is what they’re really saying. yes these additions would be great but we want a team that is desperate to play not lining up players who dont want to even play yet!

and what were to happen if say

we sold Geremi to line up another rm and Jonas got injured? and the rm never comes!

we’d be in a massive, massive mess

same if we sell Enrique to get a lb and the lb doesn’t come !

    we’ll be in a mess!

we have to make sure that we get a player before ofloading good players ( Geremi was our captain last year) to make way for knowone

i know Joe is very wise and wont do this , but saying we need ready made players and then buying players who play anywhere in defense may be good but i would prefer someone that nis a left back!

Why the hell would we get rid of Geremi or Xisco.

The players we’d get rid of are Smith, Edgar, Carroll and some other crappers.

These players just keep on appearing from nowhere, first one of them is in Rome, then we’re looking in Germany, now they’re playing in Holland. God knows whats going on. Think its just a case of wait and see regarding transfers, we’re in such a ridiculous position at the moment that anything could happen. (anything being…probably not alot at all)

Think we Have to be honest lads some of our squad simply aren’t good enough! we cant afford for the likes of smith & cacapa to maybe rediscover form! We simply need players who can perform at this level! I do have a horrible feeling that this talk of Liverpool wanting Owen back for £2m means he’s away. We must keep Oba tho. If we lose One & Keep the other then so be it but I have a feeling that Oba will stay & Owen will go. Who could we get in if he did? Bent? (Scoring Loads for Spurs) Ashton? (I know injured a lot but when fit class) Defoe? (Maybe unsettled since harry left) Bellamy? (Would we have him back?) Villa? (NO CHANCE!!!) Boyd (Good hold up striker to play with Oba) McFadden (Creative forward could play well in behind Oba & Viduka). Gomes (Whatever happened to that bid?) Gomez (Not as in demand as he used to be). Santa Cruz (NO CHANCE! if city are in for him). McCarthy (Very moody but quality player). Long story short Owen will be very hard to replace!

There won’t be any money available in Jan.

It doesn’t make any sense for him to invest if he’s still intent on selling up

Initially I was a little shocked and pleasantly surprised how open and upfront Kinnear was about these transfer inquiries, yet from it switching from Serie A, to somehow Germany, and now somehow Holland, i’m starting to think they’re all little more than inquiries (as opposed to the done deals they were first made out to be).

However, if we get proven players from Italy, Germany and Holland then i’ll be well chuffed.

But then again everybody should remember back when Kinnear said he wouldn’t ‘gamble’ the money on overseas players… and all our transfers were going to be from the championship!

if we lost owen bring mcfadden in. for sure, then spend a bit of cash on a creative cm.
we should keep owen for the rest of the year and let him go on a free if he wants to i reckon, we could use him from january onwards alot more than two mill…

I expect to see Owen go for a song in the window as well as a few others.

Holland,Italy,Germany it’s all lies and they have nothing in the pipeline with regards new acquisitions why would Ashley give 20m to JK ?

The football right now is shocking and will remain so until the crap players are replaced, the staff are replaced and owner replaced.

We will attract no big players in January and we will be in a relegation battle all season.

I was watchin Wolves Vs Birmingham yesterday & there was a good couple of players in that i’d take a chance on:
1)McFadden (Clearly too good for that league)
2)Eban Blakes (Reminds me of Andy cole)
    3) Kightly (Crackin Left Foot good young winger).

I still think we should try & land Ronaldo on a free. We could ask bobby to speak to him as bobby gave him his chance in european footy at both Psv then Barca & Ronaldo see’s him as a father like figure. As does Van Nistlerooy but we have no chance in gettin him. Unless Madrid sign teve, even then it would be very hard!

Well, I think the best thing that could happen o Newcastle is if Michael Owen left the club….
I’d be delighted if he got sold in January… incredibly overated player and him staying could well mean we lose Martins which would be devastating…
Sell Owen and use the money saved on wages to get a quality midfielder in the Veloso mould…

JJ we aint goin to get a player of that quality for £2m! the best we can hope for is to get either a young player hungry for a challenge like a Beckford from Leeds or Eban Blakes from Wolves or an old player comin to end of their Career but can still offer you something like Henrik Larsson. I will be happy if we stay up then hopefully new owners in summer & new manager either Bruce or Shearer for me. Then we can rebuild & hopefully challenge at the right end of the table. Staying up will be very difficult though.

i love the FA cup but its so frustrating, we always get a rubbish draw. I cant remember the last time we got a nobody in the cup like. We always get Championship/PL teams. Hull away isnt an easy game at all, we’ve gotta pull our socks up and fast like, or our cup run will be none existant.
