Newcastle After Charlton’s 16 Year-Old Wonder Kid

There are reports today that Newcastle United are more than interested in teenage wonder kid Jonjo Shelvey of Charlton Athletic.

Jonjo Shelvey – yes – a very old looking 16 year-old

The 16 year-old 6’ tall youngster has now found himself being watched by all three north east clubs, Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.

The Romford-born midfielder has captained England at youth level and is seen as one of Charlton’s brightest-ever prospects. He currently plays for the England Under-17 side.

Jonjo has already played 5 times for the Charlton first team and three times for the England Under-17 side, and doesn’t turn 17 until next February.

He was Charlton’s youngest ever player – at 16 years and 59 days – to make his debut for the fiurst team last April.

Jibba, as he is known to his team mates, made his breakthrough in the 2007–08 season after scoring 14 goals in 23 appearances for Charlton’s Under 18 side, including 9 goals during Charlton’s FA Youth Cup run that year.

Another top young player Newcastle are after.

My god, we won’t be winning any prizes for best-looking club if he joins haha

Not that that matters if he’s amazing. Sounds like a good prospect, though at the moment I’d prefer the first team players that we need to improve us immediately.
Get him in for the future though, and he could also be challenging for a first-team spot already

    Plug ugly.

The only ‘one for the future’ I’m interested in hearing about is a new owner.

    hahaha! good one BT9MAG!

Try to snap him up! Can’t really do any bad. Although I think our recruitment team should be focusing on more experienced players who would improve our first team squad right away. A left back and a creative and attacking minded midfielder are desperatly needed.
