Viduka is great at what he doe s- hold-up play and a great first touch. Now Shearer ha sretired he is the best there is. But its not only his wages are expensive. The Duke is a dinosaur in the modern game because he is so immobile he is a luxury in the side. You have to play to suit him and when the team is chasing the ball, Viduka offers nothing whatsoever. We need a big forward who can also run down channels and track back when we lose possession.
If he gets a renewal it should be some form of pay-as-you-play.

The only way I'd like to see Viduka in a Newcastle shirt next year is on a pay to play deal.

Viduka brings up something we don't have elsewhere in the team, but his injury layoffs and his huge salary are too much of a burden.

Extend his contract if he can stay relatively fit until the end of the season.

Micky & Nick - I think you're overly harsh on the Owen-Viduka partnership. If (huge 'if') they can avoid being crocked for a decent run of matches, I think they'll be a threat to any team in the league - especially if JFK can also include quick players like Zog and Martins.

Nick - I agree. However at the moment we aren't exactly in a great position to start and give demands or ultimatums to any of our players. Unfortunately we NEED every single one of our squad to bit fit and ready to play if we are to progress up the table.
Had we been in a better position Viduka would probably be out the door and someone younger and better would be in to replace him. The same goes for Michael Owen. Great player on his day, but the situation we are in means that we need him more than he needs us. Tragic.

Pay-per-play would be ideal. Dunno if he'd take it.

..and I thought he looked pretty handy on Saturday. Really hope he starts this Saturday, with Owen and Martins, KK-stylie...

If we renew his contract them we have learnt absolutely nothing and we'll never be a big club!
When will we ever get ruthless and not overly sentimental.

Agree...A fit Viduka is a quality player...

He also looked a little trimmer on Sat when he came on....Can only be good for us....Was very good towards the end of last season and played a big part in helping us get away from trouble

I bet he would love to stay and have another year at Newcastle. What are his options? Who is mug enough to take a risk on him at an inflated salary. Funny hows he has been silent so long but suddenly is talking to the BBC just before his contract is up.
