Disgusting Islam Chants Damages Newcastle Reputation

We were more than sorry to hear that some Newcastle fans were chanting Islamic chants, when Egyptian Mido was introduced into the game at The Riverside, on Saturday afternoon. It is disgusting and there’s no defending these stupid actions by a few Newcastle fans, who are bringing the club into disrepute.

Mido – has to put up with Islamic insults – and it’s a disgrace

And today, Mido, the Middlesbrough striker, has put blame at the feet of the FA for the anti-Islam chanting by some stupid Newcastle fans at the Riverside on Saturday.

This is the second time the Egypt international has been targeted by Newcastle fans in as many seasons, and it’s hardly helping the good name of Newcastle United, is it?

With English Football now very different than it was just 30 years ago, with all different Nationalities now playing in the best league in the world, FIFA has gone out of its way to stamp out racism in the game.

And it’s very disappointing, to say the least, that some of our fans have not heeded that message. It’s also impossible to defend the actions of those fans last Saturday. In fact we completely condemn it.

Mido said today:

“They kept chanting disgusting words, racist words about Islam and unfortunately, this is the second time that the same fans have done this,”

“It happened again because after the first time the English FA did nothing. I considered this as an invitation from the English FA to the Newcastle supporters to repeat such shameful acts.”

“I can assure you that nothing is going to happen this time again. The English FA said that they will be investigating the issue and will make use of the latest technology to stop such racist abuse of players but I feel that nothing will happen.”

“I am asking the English FA to take serious action to stop such things. These chants are not directed at me as a person but it is directed at Islam.”

We are usually very quick to defend Newcastle fans, but not this time, because this is completely unacceptable.

We live in a multi-racial world and the sooner people realize that we all have to live together, in as much harmony as possible, the better the world will be for it. We all need to practice restraint for other people’s views on various things, including religion.

Chanting racial slogans is just disgusting and has to be cut out.

That’s all we have to say on this matter, other than to add we fully applaud FIFA’s efforts to do just that.

  • He is quite right about this. Racism is not tolerated in any other sports so why football? If any of you readers were at the match and doing this you should be ashamed.

Despicable! ANy fan that has shouted racist abuse should be banned.

It’s ok to taunt opposing fans and players, this happens regularly, i.e – who ate all the pies is a common one for Viduka, but when fans resort to racism, this is totally unacceptable.

Hope the FA DO take action and find and bn the culprits.

It is very sad and provocative that some few idiots are ruining our reputation and bringing shame to the club. Hopeless.

That is terrible, I particularly like this player when he is fit, if he ever solves his injury problems and is for sale, it is unlikely that he will come here now-thanks lads.

I’ve seen and heard plenty of ar*eholes at games over the years. Doesn’t surprise me at all. All teams have them and it’s a sad indictment of an existing ignorance within our society. Perhaps the ‘derby’ environment or his ‘likeness’ to the shoe-bomber was the catalyst but there is an undercurrent of racism within a minority and it doesn’t take much to surface it.

Firstly, BULLSHIT MIDO didn’t score and he blames the newcastle fans, MIDO is shiite a I for one am sick of NUFC taking the blame for everything!!!

Secondly I just read an article from Simon Jordan Crystal Palace Chairman, and I quote “I’ve been up at Newcastle many times, and this Geordie Roar they talk about, I’ve never heard it, the only time I’ve ever heard it is when they score.

“Newcastle fans have got to face the fact they’re not a big club, they’re a big club in Newcastle, not anywhere else and this expectation level that is put on managers up there is grossly unfair.”
    Unquote

LET’S SHOW THE DAMN BASTARDS AROUND THIS JOINT WHO THAEY THINK IS BIG AND SMALL!@!!!

    COME ON, HOWAY THE LADS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

this is crap that some fans have done this. our name is crap as it is, what with our board not attending any of the recent charity events etc and constantly dragging us through the dirt with one fiasco after another. looks like some of our fans are starting to slide and will soon be as dispicable as our owner and board.

I dont know exactly what was said but I’d like to. For Mido to something like that – that NUFC directed their chanting against all Islam is incredibly stupid and inexcusable.

Sweeping statements like that are where problems come from and all he has done is make us EPL’s most likely to be blown up by a fundamentalist team.

Idiots who sing this song and as a result tarnish the name of Newcastle All Over The Planet should be aware of the consequences. The next time they or anyone from the North East are working or on holiday in countries such as Egypt, Turkey etc, they will find that any good will towards them night be diminished. This is not a joke, people are dying over this issue right now, so wise up.

I agree that we all have to get on in this multicultural world we live in, one thing I will say though (not to defend NUFC supporters at all) is that the Islamic community without doubt puts the least effort in to integrate with different societies and purely wants to stick with there own. This I feel brings on a lot of the negativity towards them, also when they come into a different country they tend to refuse to accept the rules and culture of that country and try to impose there own. This would not be allowed if the roles were reversed!!

In fact, most shit i get would be from fellow brit footy fans that rip the arse out of me over our shambolic club therse days. the truthful bottom line is not many other middle eastern countries care much for the gypos anyway. – not my views by the way! i work with one or two and although they are mega lazy and crap at their jobs, they are ok to chat with sometimes.

    Wait wait wait..

The Newcastle fans were only saying Mido looks like the shoe bomber named Richard Reid?

The press are blowing it out of proportion but the 3 legends got many calls about this and they even agreed that is what the Newcastle fans were implying. Nothing racist at all.

So can we all stop condeming without hearing the whole story?

What’s so different to boro fans changing “you fat ba$tard” to Viduka? What’s different to us changing “Just a fat eddie murphy” to Hasslebaink all those years ago?

What’s with the ‘we’? I really don’t understand that. It’s about time we looked at all the facts and made a decision based on the facts and not just create another problem for ourselves.

    Racist? I don’t think so.

…Don’t know what happened this time, but i was under the impression that the crowd took the piss out of him for lookin’ like richard reid the shoe bomber…Which i don’t see as racist…
…Can you be ‘islamist’?.. I thought that was a positive term for followers of islam?..

StevieA – it’s what it implies and represents that’s the issue. If he happened to look like Ronald McDonald and we sang that, then nobody would have an issue. Unless people saw it as Clownism. It could be that the ‘chanters’ were merely innocent in this case but are you also telling me that you’re not aware of an undercurrent of racism in amongst our supporters?

bollox Mido. People sang the song due to his likeness to Richard Reid the shoe Bomber. I wonder if Ian dowie felt his religion was insulted when people compared him to sloth from the goonies.I wonder if peter beardsley ever felt tempted to label everyone who called him quasimodo a racist. Mido!! no one cares if you read the koran, pray 5 times a day or go to a mosque. No one cared that Emre was muslim..

the chants were stupid no doubt but i have heard worse. I remember when 2 leeds fans were killed in Turkey. The following weekend leeds played aston villa. The villa sangs songs through out the game about it.

dave jones was accused of touching a minor and he endured paedophile themed chants for a long time untill he was proven not guilty.

It happens…. I am not saying its clever or right to do it but it happens.

the chants had nothing to do with his religion. How many geordies actually knew he was Muslim before he started branding us all islamophobic?

Bowburnmag – Yes I am aware of an element of racism in some of our supporters but it’s only a small minority.

The example you gave of Ronald Mcdonald makes sense. That’s the way I see it, if he looked like a clown then they would probably be chanting that. I just don’t see it as a ‘racist’ chant at all. Yes it might be implying that mido might have a bomb in his shoe but that’s only because he looks like a shoebomber (a famous one at that).

If you asked Martins or Beye about this or any black Newcastle United player they would probably dismiss the links too. People are too quick to claim racism, of course it can never work the other way round but that’s just the way the world is.

Stevie A well done for getting that point across. Yet another example of the media ignoring the full fact when reporting about newcastle united. The chant is about him looking like ONE person, its not saying that all Muslims are Terrorist. As I understand it, Spurs fans like to refer to them as a Certain type of Army… is this not equally as racist, if not more so? But no-one bats an eye lid at that.
