I think we should play Taylor at LB, because I think Jose will suffer under the aerial bombardment. Lets hope it rains on Saturday and don’t let the ball boys dry the ball. That would make it more difficult!

We hagve got to take the game to them.
Get Jonas and Charlie on the ball and taking on the full-backs.
Id like to see 4-3-3 – it’ll show that we are up for it.

And as for the long throw. Just defend it like a cormer – none of that zonal crap, simple man marking!

Definitely worth making sure he gets no run up – one for the groundsmen to sort out.

I think the key is to play ‘carpet football’ as Sir Bobby calls it, and just keep strong posession until it’s time to fire it into the middle. Basically, we have to treat any throw in within our half as something to avoid as strongly as a corner.

The other thing I’d like to see is the Viduka/Martins/Owen threesome up front. A good way to avoid dropping points due to a Delap throw-in is to be 3 goals up when he takes it…

Hes a real danger, but come on Newcastle no more Wigans or WBA.

I want a good performance and those all important 3 points.

Would love to see the 4-3-3 brought back to SJP, that would really get the crowd up for the game!

Looks like our central defence partnership has just come together at the right time!
Wonder if Jokin Here will consider playing Taylor at left back, so he’s there as additional cover for the throw ins/corners?

This game is one where we really must retain the ball well and not put ourselves under needless pressure which would most likely warrant a throw. We did it in the replay with them last year thanks mostly to a superb mature performance in central midfield by N’Zogbia after Emre’s red card.

Also, anyone remember a player called Dave Challinor? He used to have a throw much longer than Delap’s, but not used quite so effectively as Stoke do.
