With Some Stability Newcastle Can Get On With Things

Danny Guthrie and the other new players we signed in the summer hardly expected the club being thrown into such upheaval when Kevin Keegan abruptly resigned from the club in early September.

Joe Kinnear – has provided some much needed stability at Newcastle

We then lost five games on the trot, which put us into the relegation zone in the league, and had then bottom of the league Tottenham register their first win of the season against a Premier league side, when they knocked us out of the Carling Cup at St. James’ Park.

It was all a rather brutal introduction to the new players, about how unstable the Newcastle United club can be these days.

But things seem to be stabilizing a bit, and we hope further stabilization is on the way with some good new signings in January, which promises to be an exciting time for Newcastle fans with Joe Kinnear determined to introduce some new faces.   Joe also seems to have won the cash backing of current owner Mike Ashley, which is good too.

21-year-old midfielder Danny Guthrie feels the decision to give Joe Kinnear a contract until the end of the season was a good one, because it provides much-needed stability at the club, and of course it gives that to the players too, who after all are only human.

Danny said today:

“It’s nice to know that he (Kinnear) is going to be here until the end of the season, and it’s good for him to know as well. He knows where he stands, so everyone can just get on with things now.”

“Nothing’s going to happen between now and the end of the season, so the uncertainty has gone.” “He knows what we’re about now and it just gives us that bit of closure on everything.”

We feel quite good about Newcastle right now, because with Joe having put some steel into the Newcastle side, if we can add a little bit of creativity in January, we should have a more than decent squad.

Certainly in retrospect, the introduction of Guthrie, Coloccini, Gutierrez and young Sebastien Bassong in the summer certainly added some quality to the squad, and at the same time we got rid of some of our fringe players.

We need the same injection of quality in January, and we’ll be on the right track, again.

Comments always welcome.

ED I implore you to help the club over the coming 8 weeks – please please please dont build up expectations of WOW signings or in fact of any signings.

Everyone has their part to play in stability, the Club, the Fans, and Blog Owners!

Expectation and the disspointment associated with the final few days of the last transfer window led to a power keg of emotion lit by Keggans departure.

So I again say please please please help to keep expectations realistic – Cheers!

Yes agree . Lets look at the situation now that the Keegan hulabloo has died down .Dennis Wise`s signings arn`so bad are they.Coloccini and Bassong our best players in the last few games. It`s about time Keegan talked to the press to give us the full story. It is looking more and more likley that he just botteled it.

I completely agree with stardust there! The days are gone when the hype of the transfer market meant us newcastle fans were expecting big names and big transfer fee’s! We spent a fair amount on Colo in the summer; but before his purchase we had sold off emre, rozenhaal, Faye, & others even before the sale of milner so we can’t point to that and say were still spending big!

Let’s be “real” and look at realistictransfer targets! I know i harp on about Kevin Doyle alot on this blog; but he must be available for the right price and whilst man city and tottenham plough on with their superstar signings lets get some proper business done and sign a player who has scored goals in the PL and won’t cost the world…(i reckon about 8 million if we can offload smith/carrol & xisco) I couldnt rate doyle any higher and we can do without the other three as non of them are anywhere near playing regularly with Joe having publicly stated his four main front men are owen, martins, viduka & Shola!

An anlaysis of transfer dealings since Ashley took over:

    http://www.trophy4toon.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=713.0

Shows we have only spent a net £10 million over 3 transfer windows.

So based on that, it’s hard to feel optimistic that Ashley will be spending much money in January

Slam Dunc – the amount of money they spend or do not spend is an irrelevance – the quality of players coming in and improvement is the only thing that counts. I’d rather have 3 x Jonas at 3m each and 3 x Bassong at 2 m each than 1 Modric.

Tom toon should maybe be banned for the transfer window. The youtube scout just gets everyone worked up with his roll off the tongue foreign superstars.

depends how much he wants to try and get the fans back and sit in his own stadium, however still cant see big cash being spent – and more importantly is kinnear going to be any good with money if he got it, let alone bringing the right players in? Cant say i know him from playing expansive footy, and signing top talent but would loved to be proved wrong

NUFC Fan – agree – JK is an unknown in the markets – in his day he was signing players within the UK now its a global business. I actually think he will very much need and benefit from the the infrastructure set up by MA – yep that includes Wise and Veterre.

Keegan should have too – if only theyd found a way to work together .

I don’t think we’ll know the true story of what happened with KK until the court case. If KK wins, he was undermined and marginalised by Ashley, Wise and Jimenez. If the court rules otherwise we’ll know that KK simply walked.

    Time will tell.

I’d love a WOW signing and if the prospect was ever realistic I’d implore Ed to get us wound-up like kid’s at Christmas. It’s part of being a supporter, surely? However, chances are, that most of our signings will be temporary loans. Which is what I think will make up the vast majority of this transfer window, more so than ever before. Perhaps there is a possibility of a WOW loan signing? Something a little out of the ordinary? As long as we improve the squad then I’ll be happy, regardless of what we spend but then (Stardust) that’s probably stating the obvious as I’ve said before. It’s yet another interesting two or three month when we’ll see Ashley go down one of two roads each with a fork in it. Gear up for selling by – a) speculating and accumulating, building a squad capable of securing our Premiership status, but cutting loose high earners and balancing the books and selling on at a decent price or b) spend nowt and trust we’ll scrape through again, still cutting loose high earners and selling on at an even better price. Or he may decide to stick around depending on the feedback and go down either of those forks but without the intention of selling either way but maintaining a financially viable commodity to keep, nuture, enjoy and sell later. Which of these is most likely will depend on your view of him and whether him sticking around is even possible or in everyone’s best interests is debatable. I have to be honest, I have no idea anymore so I’m going to go home shortly and build a snowman for the little ‘un and not think about it.

AO I know you like to stir the waters and I know its hard when you have all these witty things to say and idiots like stardust sitting there saying egging you on but watch the line between poking fun and actually coming on here to pick on someone. TomToon spouts a lot of names and seems to know far too much about football but which one of us have not heard of a player, gone on to youtube to check him out and then said we would love to have them. I’m not sure how old you are but if it makes you feel like a big man picking on an 18 year old kid then I’m glad your not a toon supporter

The days of transfer busting signings are long gone and the last 3 windows have been dire mostly.

I am a realist these days and just want whoever plays to have a bit of pride wearing the black and white stripes.

I think players will come in not massive buys but steady players perhaps from the championship and europe that want to battle for the club.

Our day will come, it is just a bit further away than it was several years ago..I am sure JK will keep us up fingers crossed any links with big players I will take with a pinch of salt this time around.

I would also like to say Spurs are irrelevant and for an adult like AO to spend time on here picking on an 18 year old lad is just very sad and you must be one very lonely individual.

Grow up AO you are not a true football fan.

sirjason – is that not what we’ve always demanded from our players (the pride bit)? I know I have. If they happen to be a bit special at the same time, I’d be over-the-moon. Heart over hype any day for me though, so I know what you’re saying.

Ausgeordie- get off your high horse. Tomtoon gives as good as he gets. He is very quick with his racist and anti semetic remarks. But i suppose you would rather have fans like him(and it seems you have plenty after the boro game) than someone doing some harmless mickytaking.
